Avatar m tn I have been taking vicodin ES 750mg 90 tablets a month for the past 2 years due to my bad knees. I was recently switched over to the percocet 5/325 my body was becoming tollerant to the vicodin to the point where they were not relieving the pain anymore. I had the same reaction with the percocet where I had to take 2-3 at once.

However, it takes two or three days for the fentanyl to reach a steady dosage in your bloodstream, so you may need to overlap with the vicodin a bit as your body gets used to the change. You will not get a "buzz" or as you put it, increased spike in energy from fentanyl that you experience with vicodin.
356518 tn?1322263642 Some of the pain medications are a bit harder for the liver to metabolize than others ie. Fentanyl vs. Oxycodone. Fentanyl is harder for the liver to metabolize and Oxycodone basically just flushes right through as long as there is no acetaminophen added. I take Milk Thistle and Dandelion Root everyday as they both assist the liver with detoxification and will not interfere with the potency of any medications you may be taking.
Avatar f tn I have been on 4-5 Vicodin (500's) for about 2 months after being off them for years. 9 years ago I developed a dependancy/addiction to vicodin after 3 major surgeries. The reason I'm back on this crap is very complicated, its not pain, but the reason is not germain to my question. Earlier I ran out of Vicodin (due to my own stupity) and was 4 days without. The withdrawl symptoms were in a word HORRIFIC. I saw my doc today and she put my on Fentanyl Transdermal System 12mcg/hr.
Avatar m tn So strength wise, the duragesic patch Fentanyl is alot stronger than any healthy dose of Vicodin. a 75 mcg. dura patch can last three days depending on your tolerance, but three days is typically as long as it lasts. But also these two drugs are different in how they are suppose to be used. The Vicodin is for breakthrough pain, whereas fentanyl is meant for around the clock pain relief. So actually you are able to take the vicodin while you're wearing the patch as needed.
Avatar n tn For God's sake, PLEASE see a doctor and/or a clinic specializing in pain management and narcotics withdrawal.
Avatar m tn Fentanyl is a stonger form of an opioid. Opiate and opioid mean the same thing: Opiate is an adjective while opioid is a noun. Percocet is an opioid as is fentanyl. They are synthetic which means they are man made and not derived from a plant. Good job on getting off the Percocet!
Avatar f tn My PvP prescribed Fentanyl 12.5 patch. I've been taking 7-9 vicodin 10/325 for the last 6 months but it doesn't work very well and I started having stomach pain from taking too much. I started on the patch yesterday but am still having quite a bit of pain and am taking Vicodin for breakthrough pain . I emailed my PvP to see if it would make sense to up the dose but all she said in her reply email is that she wants to wait at least a week before we up the dose.
Avatar m tn You do not get the euphoria that you would get from the Vicodin. Fentanyl is 80x stronger than Morphine and once you're on the patch, you will most likely be on it for the rest of your life. You mentioned the "Big gun med" Yes, it is one of the strongest on the market today. The side effects can be unpleasant for the first month or so. You may get nauseated, dizzy or sweaty but this will pass as you body becomes accustom to it. Believe me when I say it works.
Avatar n tn I have been taking ultram 2x and lortab 3x daily for 2 yrs.Doctor continues to ask me if I would start fentanyl therapy, which I have tried and only helps for 2 days and not 3 days which the dosage is set at.I have declined the fentanyl treatment and now DR. wants me to see surgeon for my cervical stenosis. My neck is only a part of my problems.I first started pain management for leg pain which still continues.
Avatar m tn Respiration problems happen with people who take more than prescribed (overdose) of ANY opiate. Those problems are not at all limited to the fentanyl patch and do happen with percocet and vicodin. Since you are opiate tolerant, you don't need to be concerned about it. Seriously, the amount of percocet you take in one day is roughly equivalent to the 25 mcg fentanyl patch. You reacted to 3 percocet because you overdosed in the strictest sense of the word.
Avatar m tn How long does withdrawal last? I have been on fentanyl for about one year, 100 every 48 hrs. This was prescribed for me after my cancer surgery.
Avatar f tn OMG GIRL I WAS IN THE EXACT SITUATION!!! I was freaking out for months about wanting to get off vicodin /norcos....especailly the dangerous, stupid Fentanyn patch. befroe i started the patch i was taking 3 vicodin es 4 times a day or 2 to 21/2 norco. my doc didn't like vicodin so he put me on the damn fentanyl patch from june to july my brain was craving the drug more and more. i went from 75mcg to 150mg is less than 2 months. i had only 30 norco, so that went quick.
Avatar f tn I have been taking 16 mgs. Subutex for about 2 years because of previous Vicodin addiction. I need a medical procedure done that is supposed to be very painful. That doctor uses fentanyl and I don't know whether to increase doseage, stop Subutex short term, or what??? Any suggestions, or experiences. Thanks so much for sharing.
Avatar f tn Stoping xs Vicodin after years. I've needed too. Now had no choice cuz the pain dr is throwing me out thinking I'm not taking them. I was just to many in the beginning I the months. Not sure how I will do with the withdraws. They have put me on a low dose of Fentolyn but I don't think this is doing anything but making me sicker.
Avatar m tn I posted a comment/question on "vicodin vs dilaudid" could somebody please read it and tell me if I should ne ss scared as I am after Reading these posts? Please? Thanks.
Avatar f tn You will be fine if they do not use any narcotic such as fentanyl and do not take any Vicodin or other such prescription from them. Versed and Propofol should work just fine for you. Suboxone will help you with pain after surgery, just take smaller doses more often.
1182133 tn?1266851531 Now I think I need to stop the vicodin. Yest I went over 13 hrs no vicodin. Then tried to sleep and the RLS kicked in, so I took a vicodin and thought that'd help. The RLS went away but still didn't sleep.... Somebody rescue me from this HELL!!!!
Avatar m tn I've stepped down from 75m Fentanyl patch gradually over the past 6 weeks and removed my last patch on New Years Eve. The w/d are so bad. I'm sweating, puking and shaking and all while trying to keep my job. Actually the worst of the withdrawals are the crawlies. I know most of this stuff will subside and it will just be about staying away from the Vicodin that takes the edge off. Neurontin has been suggested and seems less dangerous than Suboxone. Can anyone give me an opinion on this?
Avatar f tn I have been on the patch for two years. I also take Vicodin 10mg for breakthrough. I have been praying to god to help me have the courage to get off the medications. I feel like it has taken over my life. I recently took a urine test for the doctor and she said that a drug came up that I have never even heard of. I think it starts with an O. But, when she checked the pharmacies to see if I got a prescription for it it never showed up. BECAUSE I NEVER TOOK IT!
Avatar f tn I have diabetes, peripheral neuropathy, chronic bronchitis, COPD, hiatal hernia, GERD, restless leg syndrome, arthritic cervical spondylosis, alergies, ADD (my primary care dr says), but have never been diagnosed with it. It makes sense, however, as when in school and even now, I will be talking about one subject and will constantly go off on another completely different subject. My attention span is very short and always has been.
