The layered patch is reportedly safer. I went from Vicodin to the Fentanyl Patch and would have stayed on it had I not had a severe allergy to the adhesive. I encourage you to try it. Any initial side effects should subside in time as your system adjusts to the new medication. Some ppl have very little side effects. Your physicians beleives this will help or would not has prescribed it. If it does not work well for you than discuss that with your physician.
I have been on pain medication mostly oxycodone or vicodin. Vicodin did nothing for my pain while oxycodone made it bearable. I was taking 4 to 6 oxys a day and it was working just fine, well as good as you can get with the medical conditions i have. I had the i.u.d. in and somehow we fell in the .1 percent of still getting pregnant.
I've been taking 30 Vicodin HPs a week for a year now, but I am still suffering and I am finding it difficult to concentrate after taking Vicodin. I want to stop taking Vicodin before I become more dependant on it than I already am. My Dr. has suggested switching to Ultram in the past. Some pharmacist say that Ultram is addictive while others say it is not. Before I switch to another medication I would like to know what I am getting myself into. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
I have been taking vicodin ES 750mg 90 tablets a month for the past 2 years due to my bad knees. I was recently switched over to the percocet 5/325 my body was becoming tollerant to the vicodin to the point where they were not relieving the pain anymore. I had the same reaction with the percocet where I had to take 2-3 at once.
People just need to realize that being on a 25ug/hr patch is still being on a pretty decent dose of fentanyl.....or opioid, for that matter. As far as fentanyl being like morphine, they are alike in their affinities to the mu opioid receptor and that is basically it. Fentanyl is metabolized into an inactive metabolite (norfentanyl) where as morphine is metabolized into one active (m6g) and one inactive (m3g) metabolite. And, heroin is metabolized into morphine.
Oxycodone stays in your system longer - however it has the same 'effect' duration as Hydrocodone. I've always found Oxy to be stronger, but a bit more of a 'rough' (lack of a better description) high. Hydro took more pills, but the high was more euphoric for me -- peaceful but excited and full of energy - and can't stop talking. In the end - Oxy will probably take longer to over come WD's. We're talking maybe 2-3 days, but that's a long time when you are feeling sick.
Percocet (oxycodone) is stronger than Vicodin (hydrocodone). Percocet is typical prescribed in 5mg doses. Hydrocodone is also typically prescribed in 5mg doses. At these levels percocet is definitly the stronger drug. Norco a brand of hydrocodone that comes in 10mg pills, and is there for equivalent to 2 normal hydro pills. People get confused and think it is stronger because they are taking two pills in one.
Do I need to wait the requisite 6 - 12 hours after last dose of Temegesic (Bup) before I apply the Duragagesic (fentanyl). In the past I had to do so when switching from vicodin to Temegesic. Or are the two compatablile? Much Thanks.
Good question... I think the word "dependent" is a euphemism for the word "addiction". On my Vicodin ES patient instructions they use the phrase "Physical Dependence". Pretty much, addiction and addict has social stigma and dependent sounds more palatable to consumers. When you drop "addiction" into the MS Word Thesaurus they recommend the word "habit". They also offer: compulsion, DEPENDENCE, need, obsession, craving, infatuation.
Well unfortunately this is not my first time trying to stop taking Vicodin. I am mentally so tired and want to be free again. I have stopped before but I hope this time it will be for good. I have been taking 3-4 750mg per day for the last 6-7 years. Over the last week I have cut it down to only 2 per day except for on Wednesday I took 3. I told myself that Saturday (today) would be the first day to not take any and just deal with it over the weekend.
Some of the pain medications are a bit harder for the liver to metabolize than others ie. Fentanyl vs. Oxycodone. Fentanyl is harder for the liver to metabolize and Oxycodone basically just flushes right through as long as there is no acetaminophen added. I take Milk Thistle and Dandelion Root everyday as they both assist the liver with detoxification and will not interfere with the potency of any medications you may be taking.
The Fentanyl patch! One of my closest friends is actually on the fentanyl patch. So, I could maybe ask her about this for you... about how to approach this topic with a doctor. I will do that and get back to you on what she says.
I recently came off Fentanyl and tomorrow I am going CT off my percs. I am hoping that after i am off meds for a while I will learn to deal with the pain better. I have read on the site that a few people noticed a dramatic lowerly of their pain level after coming off pain killers. Just know that we are here and willing to listen and help whenever we can.
I AM GLAD I FOUND THIS SITE AS I WAS CONCERNED. I HAVE BEEN TAKING VICODIN 7.5 AND SOMA FOR YEARS FOR CHRONIC LOWER BACK PAIN CAUSED BY DEGENATIVE DISQ DISEASE. PAIN AND NUMBNESS GOES DOWN MY LEGS AND FEET. FEEL LIKE HYPOCHONDRIAC. I ALSO TAKE ANXIETY MEDS AS THE VICODIN STRESSES MY SYSTEM. APPARENTLY SURGERY ISN'T AN OPTION. LIFE HAS STOPPED AT 53 YRS. I WAS RECENTLY CHANGED TO FETANYL PATCH 25 AND WAS REALLY SCARRED AFTER READING ALL THE MATERIAL.
My pain doctors (who don't prescribe because they are short-staffed) decided I should take Fentanyl patch vs. Vicodin. I was at 25 mcg + 12 mcg Fent. patch per day. Doctor raised my Vicodin (I think I had Lortab 750/500) to Norco (1000/500). About two month later the pain doctors decided since I was still taking 3-4 vicodin per day that I should have a stronger patch.
I posted a comment/question on "vicodin vs dilaudid" could somebody please read it and tell me if I should ne ss scared as I am after Reading these posts? Please? Thanks.
Hi - I am prepping for a knee replacement stemming from an old high school injury and go to a local pain management clinic. I've been on about every painkiller there is, plus have had 2 pain blocks - most recently I was using the Fentanyl patches and Vicodin as a "kicker" - I was doing okay, spiking with pain because the Vicodin would wear off after 3-4 hours. My meds have to be changed every so often because they become less effective.
No more waiting lists, because your hips can change and being immobile and on narcotics for years is not worth it to me. 2. Work with a top surgeon who'll evaluate your films vs. flying cross country for a decision. I'm devastated and back to the drawing board again calling every OS with over a thousand hip resurfacing surgeries under their belt.
Then I went to a pm doctor for the first time and he took me off the vicodin es 3 to 4 , 4 x a day and fentanyl patch, somas. He then put me on opana er...didn't work, oxycontin and percocet...i hate anything with oxycodone so i got off that. I went back on the fentanyl patch 75mcg and within almost 2 months i went up to 150mcg b/c my tolerance was so high. I detoxed cold turkey and it was the worst and most painful, scariest thing that ever happened to me.
Fentanyl is NOT sideways from darvocet and norco! It is MUCH stronger! Ativan is the least addictive of anxiety medications. I think if you are still in pain you should continue with the pain medication, but be careful that you are aware of what you are taking! Fentanyl is one of the strongest pain medications available, I am not aware of anything stronger. It is stronger than oxy, morphine, etc.
I don't know what is worse though the vicodin addiction or the pain without the meds. I got addicted after long term use but I swear the pain was unbearable even before I started them. I've tried every pain killer under the sun and the vics help me feel normal when I have them. I've been without for 2 days now and I'm dying. I've been on them for about 8 months. Any advice?
My doctor raised my hydro's to 7.5/750 every 4 hrs for breakthrough pain. I'm also on 50ccg/hr Fentanyl patch every 48 hrs. I was taking 5/325 hydro's every 4 hrs but it wasn't really working anymore. I'm just a little surprised that she upped the acetaminophen. Is that too high??
I was on the Fentanyl 75Mcg patch, Norco 4x day, Xanaz 1 mg 3 times a day and Klonopin 1x at bedtime when I found out I was pregnant with my now 14 month old daughter. I immediately stopped taking the xanax, klonopin and norco and weaned down from the 75 patch to the 50, then 25, then 12 and C/T from there. I found out I was pregnant at 6 weeks and I was off all medication at 8 weeks pregnant. It was complete hell on me physically, but I found it to be so worth it for what I have now.
I know I am banned from this board, but I had to look up fentanyl to see what it was. I happened to run across this site: They are giving out meds to worms!!!! check it out: http://www.opioids.com/fentanyl/subjective.
Hi and welcome. Duragesic patches contain a Schedule II narcotic,Fentanyl, which will readily be picked up in a screen. In fact, any opiate or narcotic will be detected, depending on how sensitive the test is. Most companies use sensitive testing methods. The anti-inflammatory or n-saids (Ibuprofen or aleve) are over the counter and may or may not control your pain, and they aren't narcotics and of course don't require a script. (so if they show up in the screen, it would be okay).
I had a real rough night last night and woke up about 3 am with w/d and had a dose of vicodin at bedtime. I took a few more vicodin and got through the night. I have doses of the fast acting oxy 5mg in daily issue pill containers to wean off and 5 ea 20mg in a bottle marked w/d. So I take a rainbow of pain killers. I work this morning at 6 am and decided I had enough.
Hi Vicodin the brand version has changed their formulation to reduce the tylenol. I found that out recently when I asked for the brand of 5/500 and was told there was no brand, only a generic. I came home to type what happened to brand Vicodin and found out. So, I called my doctor to request the brand with the much lower tylenol. I don't know if you really want or need to start on methadone. That is something that would be in your system 24/7 and would then require detox.
