Fentanyl is a stonger form of an opioid. Opiate and opioid mean the same thing: Opiate is an adjective while opioid is a noun. Percocet is an opioid as is fentanyl. They are synthetic which means they are man made and not derived from a plant. Good job on getting off the Percocet!

Hi everyone, I was recently taken off my usual pain med regimine of 75 micr of Fentanyl Patch every 48 hours and 4 mg hydramorphone ( dilauded) 4-6 times a day.

Does anybody have experience? How much longer does is take for a fentanyl cold turkey? Should I switch to all oxy for a few weeks first? And finally, if I take 5 days off, so with weekend on both sides that wud be 9 days? Wud that be long enuf?

Do I need to wean off oxy before using the patch. Do i need to worry about od ing because of the halflife of oxy? So one day I guess they will tell me to stop taking oxy and start the patch i am assuming 100mcg to = what I am taking now. Any help would e great. Pros and Cons to the patch?

Some of the pain medications are a bit harder for the liver to metabolize than others ie. Fentanyl vs. Oxycodone. Fentanyl is harder for the liver to metabolize and Oxycodone basically just flushes right through as long as there is no acetaminophen added. I take Milk Thistle and Dandelion Root everyday as they both assist the liver with detoxification and will not interfere with the potency of any medications you may be taking.

ve benn on oxy since december 2009 and increase till 6 pils of 80.about 2 weeks ago had no oxy left snd i tried to avoid withdrawal with fentanyl patches. 2 of 100 and 1 of 50 but after the simptoms of w/d ended i took them of and put another when simptoms started and so on till this mondey when i finished all the patches i had. monday i had a hard w/d but sedate my self with xanax valium and carmabazepine i got on prescription.

I am currently on 75 mcg fentanyl patch every 3 days. If I want to go on oxy daily, what amounts would I ask for?

the oxy contin and now call it oxy neo here in canada i have been on for about 3 years now the pain management clinic advised my doctor to put me on the fentanyl and cymbalta with the ox i think it may be a little much after all the reading up i have done on it with the fentanyl being so stong

m new here and although never been on fentanyl but i wanted to say that i was on oxy for 2 years. Every place has a different way to go about it but i went from a detox center (detoxed with suboxone for 7 days) straight to a 28 day rehab center. Personally, if i wouldn't have went to the 28 day program to give my mind and body time to adjust in a positive environment, i couldn't have done it.

if his doctor will do what he needs to do, i would suggest using opana and not oxy just because the oxy doesn't work well at all. if he really wants off the patch bad, right now, he could probably go from a 50 mcg to a opana 40. then the doctor can lower the opana as he stabilizes. it takes 20 some days for fentanyl to be out of your body. it seeps into fat, bones, muscles,etc. so it takes a while. so he will likely hurt for a bit even being on opana.

I used to be on OxyContin like 15 yrs ago, I got weaned off of the oxy too on the patch, I had no with drawls from the oxy, my dr. Slowly weaned me, no problem at all. This time, I'm going straight to the oxy from the patch, actually tonight I'm suppose to take my patch off and take my first oxy pill in the morning. Will I be feeling any with drawl? Was just on 15 mg of oxy for about 2 years.Was going to Fl in June this year was talking to my pharmist about pain.Told him I was taking my grandson to Universil Studio he told me the pain meds I was on would not help the pain in my ankle and up my leg from a very bad broking ankle that happened years ago.I have a rod ans pins in the ankle,bad back and a bad knee from favoring my right leg all these years.I'm 62 I should of never went on the patch.

So he lowered my script from 3 20mgs oxy a day to 3 10 mg oxy a day and put me on Fentanyl 25mcg every 3 days. Anyways, I put one on and don't like them at all. They make me feel very depressed, moody and tired so I looked it up and good grief, it makes oxy look like a walk in the park. She decreased my fentanyl to 175 every 2 days but left the oxy as is--she said I may need it for extra pain. She also prescribed clonidine 1-2 mg 2x day as needed at my request as well as ambien for sleep. I also asked for gabepentin to help with pain but she didn't want too many variables at one time. I think i am going to taper a bit quicker than she suggested. Now that I have the clonidine I may cut the doses in half?

I am wondering if anyone on here has successfully switched from oxy to fentanyl patches? At least on this patch I could get adequate pain control and stop the oxys altogether. I am currently prescribed the 25 mcg patch but in order to get off oxys alltogether may need to use the 50 mcg patch. I know anything can be abused but I have no intention of trying to abuse the patch. I just want to get off these oxys but still live my life in as little pain as possible. I was recently given an option to try the fentanyl patch. It scard me so badly i took it off after a month and a half use. The withdrawal was THE most horrific i have ever been thru. Compared to methadone it was scary! So i decided to go back to the hydrocodone and tramadol for this month. I was just given a script for Fentanyl 100 mcg/hr from my doctor this evening. Prior to this I have been taking Kadian 30mg 3 times a day and 6 Percocet a day. I know nothing about Fentanyl and was wondering what the mcg/hr is and how long after I put this patch on does it start working and am I on the right dose? Is this 100 mcg/hr similar to my 90mg a day of the Kadian? How am I going to feel when this kicks in.

ive been on oxy 15mg for 11 years along with fentynal (25 , 50 , and 75s on and off) i have very severe RA. i never withdrawl from the fentanyl and have not been on them for 3 years... however if i dont take my pill every 5-6 hours my joints (all of them) throb so bad that i get bed ridden.. i really want to walk away from the oxy's but the rheumatoid arthritis hurts too bad.. i dont know which is worse or what to do..
