1364139 tn?1280791344 I would call the orthopedic surgeon office who is doing the surgery and ask them what they think. I'm sure if your pain doctor told you to keep it on, it's probably ok, but you will need to make sure you tell the anesthesiologist about it to keep your pain under control and the medications that they use are correct. I'm in the same situation, I use a fentanyl patch and am having surgery next Wednesday. I've been given no information on whether to wear it or not.
Avatar f tn I am bed ridden with pain, and unable to work. Has anyone relied on Fentanyl during their pregnancy, and what was your outcome?? There just aren't any studies out there with info.
Avatar f tn So I would just discuss with your doctor the fact that the fentanyl is no longer working. I have heard that fentanyl tends to work a lot longer than longer acting opioids in pill form before effectiveness begins to wane. The options that your doctor will most likely present to you are, an increase in fentanyl (which will require wearing a couple of patches versus just one), an increase or change in breakthrough pain medication and/or an addition of a long acting medication in pill form.
Avatar m tn Fentanyl can be very difficult to come off. The withdrawals seem to be harsher and last longer than other opioids. But you are lucky to only be at 12 mg over 4 weeks. Did your doctor have you on something else before he put you on the Fentanyl? I ask that because Fentanyl isn't normally used as a first-line drug for pain. If you were on something else, that would factor into your withdrawal. You can read lots of withdrawal hints over on the Substance Abuse forum.
Avatar f tn Do I dare put on fentanyl 50 i have from old script till I can fill regular pain meds? Or will fentanyl be bad come off after ten days use? Any help on this be very appreciated! My Dr isnt any help havent been treating me real great since I refused go back on fentanyl or doing a procedure!
Avatar f tn 30am she was born with no meds OUCH! back labor!!! With this pregnancy I am considering some form of meds just cause I've done the none medicated and glad I did but its actually kind of making me really nervous and I almost dread the day it comes. I just don't know what meds would work best for me because my labor and delivery is VERY fast I wold need something that works almost instantly and doesn't last too long. No epidural!
Avatar f tn I had to get my epidural at 4cm and had it going for about 25hrs, which was 2hrs into my labor before I ended up with a c section.
Avatar f tn I suffer from debilitating headaches that are a result of a brain surgery I had when I was 25. I currently use oxycodone, fentanyl patches and diazapam. My husband believes that I am causing brain damage and ruining my life. I have spine problems and vascular disease as well. I feel that since I'm using my mess as directed,I will be okay, he feels that I am playing with fire. What should I do, remain on the mess and feel relief or stop the mess and live in constant pain?
Avatar m tn s help (he told us both last year that he doubts that she will ever get off the medication because of her condition) even though she often cries in pain the side effects from the fentanyl have been so bad as during the last few years she has lost over 2 stone in weight, has no appetite suffers with anxiety and depression and having a conversation that she can remember days later is becoming a big problem, she begged me to help her get off the patches a couple of months ago as she says she wakes
Avatar f tn Please be very, very careful with the Fentanyl. She will have horrid withdrawal if she continues on it. Also know that during the physical withdrawal process, about a week, her pain will be heightened. She will believe that it is because of the lack of medication but more times than not, it is the withdrawal itself. There is a Neurology forum and an Undiagnosed Symptoms forum here at MH. You may try posting there and see if someone can help you further.
Avatar f tn I will use it during labor but not decided on sents yet..
Avatar f tn You will be fine if they do not use any narcotic such as fentanyl and do not take any Vicodin or other such prescription from them. Versed and Propofol should work just fine for you. Suboxone will help you with pain after surgery, just take smaller doses more often.
Avatar m tn Intravenous Fentanyl is used routinely, as a one off in anaesthesia during operations, to control intraoperative pain and is highly effective. One off use under controlled means does not produce addiction. Good luck with your pain management, but make sure you are well informed about this drug if you choose to take it,as one day you may well not want it in your life.
Avatar f tn After the patch is removed, it takes 17 hours or more for a 50 percent decrease in serum fentanyl concentrations. If you are planning to discontinue use of Duragesic, a gradual dosage decrease is recommended since it is not known what dose level the drug may be discontinued without producing the signs and symptoms of abrupt withdrawal. Do not stop taking Duragesic without first checking with your doctor.
Avatar f tn I am starting my withdrawal and it stinks. It's way different than coming off Fentanyl- more nauseous less shakes - at least for the first day. Jeez- I can't believe I am going through this for the second time this month. God give me the strength.
Avatar m tn Taking the hydro's are just going to prolong your detox from the fentanyl and you will actually still feel some detox symptoms because fentanyl is so much more powerful than hydrocodone, there is no comparison between the two. So by taking the hydro's you're still going to be going through withdrawals and your'e picking up another habit that i gaurantee you that you will start taking upwards of 20-40 a day of those especially if you are using them to help with detox.
Avatar f tn Hi I have suffered with chronic pain for 8 years and I recently explained to my pain clinic that I wanted to try for a baby , they took me off my normal tablet form off pain relief and put me on the fentanyl patch, non of the other pain relief medications are safe during pregnancy, I also visited my obstetrician who backed up the pain clinic and although advise medication free is the only way to ensure no possible side effects that the patch is the safest way forward for a pregnancy.
Avatar f tn m sorry that you are having difficulty keeping your patch on. I ALSO use the Fentanyl Patches - 62mcg - I use one 50 and one 12. Where do you place your patches on your body? I place mine on my back in the shoulder blade area. Some people do have problems with keeping them on, BUT fortunately I've NEVER had that problem.
Avatar f tn He has a great deal of pain mostly due to the neuropathy, but also the broken bones. His dr has put him on a high dosage of fentanyl, as well as dilaudid for breakthrough pain. He takes 2 two mg. xanax for insomnia. He is prescribed 2 four mg. dilaudid daily. I recently learned he was injecting the dilaudid. I am extremely concerned and feel helpless. He was a drug addict for many years, but was clean 15 years prior to transplant.
Avatar f tn T USE ANYTHING TO COVER THEM OTHER THAN WHAT IS MADE SPECIAL FOR THEM. If you use so.ethi g not made for them, you can get TOO MUCH of the Fentanyl in your system. Just BE CAREFUL!!! :) Hope this will help, even tho it is late. :) ..........
Avatar m tn ve held onto a used patch to wear one for appearances, but worry about Fentanyl not showing up in urine. I just opened my last patch and have 10 days before next refil. Would ingesting or chewing a piece be enough to have a positive urine test? How quickly does Fentanyl show in the urine? My previous tests have not been a problem because I've had 'accepted level' of Fentanyl....though I don't know what that is.
725248 tn?1316162245 After the comment you made about the Opana not helping after being on the Fentanyl is correct....The Fentanyl is so strong that there isn't a pain med out there that will compare to it. I used to get relief from Oxycontin and Codone (very little but I did) and now taking both (I've tried the Oxycontin since) will not help me at all. The Fentanyl holds on to receptors that will make the other pain meds non-responsive. I looked it up once but it's all very complicated to me.
Avatar f tn Way back in the day they gave u an enema so that u would poop during labor before the pushing part.
