I would seek out advice from the medical facility that has placed you on the donor list for a liver transplant to understand fully what can disqualify you for a liver transplant. If you are prescribed the Fentanyl and Dilaudid for pain associated with liver failure, I highly doubt that these meds will disqualify you from a liver transplant but PLEASE seek clarification that this is the case. In these types of situations, it is always best to seek out clarification.

ok here is the question? I had surgery, then withdrew from fentanyl, my post are all over here. sometime during the past month my dr ordered some blood work and today called me to say my liver and kidneys are not functioning and my sugars are high. once before, years ago this happen with my liver due to to much meds, can this be the case now? does anyone else had this happen to them? should I be worried? clean now for 35 days!

well before i could address this with my doc i was hospitalized for about a week in a half (initially for my ic and kidney infection) my liver enzymes were sky high and had been elevated for a few months prior (which the docs attributed to a mvi) anyway they were alarmingly high and the docs decided to fly me out of my small town hospital to a bigger hospital in the city. they then found the hep c, in the chronic phase.

Sooo my gp's gonna put me on fentanyl. But before he does I have to go in to the office to sign a liability waiver. Now I'm not stupid I know fentanyls dangerous.. But is it really that dangerous. I've never heard of a doctor do this before. Is this normal????

Some of the pain medications are a bit harder for the liver to metabolize than others ie. Fentanyl vs. Oxycodone. Fentanyl is harder for the liver to metabolize and Oxycodone basically just flushes right through as long as there is no acetaminophen added. I take Milk Thistle and Dandelion Root everyday as they both assist the liver with detoxification and will not interfere with the potency of any medications you may be taking.

Does anyone know what bowel prep for colonoscopy is safe for use by a patient with liver disease? I was given prescriptions for miralax/ducolax and for Suprep. Thanks!

Never over use them but use what they give me for sure. I currently have been taking Fentanyl for one year. I have not liked it since the day I started but it took the place of 10 percacet a day so better for my liver they told me. I am going into to see my dr and need to switch off the fentanyl. Is there any easy way way to do this and what would be a good option in place of it???? I place one 12mcg patch on every other day and one 25mcg patch.

i have been of Fentanyl for over two months and as of yesterday off the oxys too as i still have pain i am now down to codeine wich i am taking a little more then i should i have not been abusing the clonazepam and i still have tylenal 3 wich i do not take due to the caffiene or tylenal component, when i run out of codeine will i get sick again?

Norcos contain Tylenol or Acetaminophen and taking 36 Norcos pills a day can cause liver damage as that is an overdose of Tylenol. The maximum amount of Norcos you can take in one day without harming your liver is 12 pills. You were taking 3 times that amount. I recommend that you request a liver panel from your doctor so that you can know whether or not you caused liver damage by ingesting that much tylenol. The next tier up from Norcos is Oxycodone with or without Tylenol.

I want to know what this drug use now is doing to his liver, even though the liver function test are O.K. They do raise occasionally, but never enough for dr's to be concerned. He also takes 1800 mg daily of neurontin for the neuropathy. Neurologist says the only cure for the neuropathy is treatment for the HCV. His hepatologist wants to wait for new drugs. Fentanyl is hard to come off, even if you taper it. I don't think Tramadol will help much, and that drug comes with its own demons. Even if you're not an addict, you are dependent, andI would suggest checking out the Substance Abuse forum as it has lots of tips on what helps withdrawal symptoms. I'd be surprised if you came away with none. The Clonidine will help with some withdrawal symptoms.

Today a 33 yr old woman was charged with 3rd degree murder. She had been supplying this man with her fentanyl patches. He had been smoking it. The coroner said this was the cause of death as he had respiratory depression. The article also said that overdose with this drug is common as it is so potent. I know the woman who was charged. I'm not a drug addict; in fact all the doctors I've met so far have never met someone like me at all! You see, pain killers have no effect on my pain at all!! That's especially not much fun when you also have a disease like MS (lots of pain there!) and gums that are so sensitive that I can't touch them with a Q-tip without putting Benzocaine on it and even that only reduces the pain from a 10 to about a 6 but I can deal with that.

My PvP prescribed Fentanyl 12.5 patch. I've been taking 7-9 vicodin 10/325 for the last 6 months but it doesn't work very well and I started having stomach pain from taking too much. I started on the patch yesterday but am still having quite a bit of pain and am taking Vicodin for breakthrough pain . So that is a very big incentive to stay clean, as if he is tested and found pos for even one urine or swab screen, he is taken OFF the list and put back to the bottom, for one year he has to attend groups and N.A. meetings ,etc. The STAKES ARE SO HIGH.

I am wondering if there is something besides Tylenol 3 that I can ask for to be prescribed as I have some liver issues and everytime I get a migraine or other aches and pains that are too much for over the counter, I get prescribed T3's, but I am concerned they are making my liver worse. I have fatty liver disease, and I don't drink, and I don't really eat fatty foods (the two most common causes of FLD). I just need something as strong as T3's, but not as hard on liver?

Is anyone on Fentanyl patches for pain? I have had to be on them since last fall and I am not sure what all it might be doing to me. I don't feel all dopey like I do with other pain meds, but I have to wonder what it might be doing to me in the long run. This is a patch that is 80x stronger than morphine so it has to be doing something. I wonder if it has added to my memory problems?
