Avatar n tn I have had both the upper endoscopy and then yesterday had my first colonoscopy and the prep you have to drink for the colonoscopy is way worse than the procedure itself :) Good luck, I hope this is helpful!
Avatar n tn I just had a bad experience with a colonoscopy. I remember the pain quite well in spite of a huge dose of Versed (8 mg) along with 50 mg. of Benedryl, and 100 mcg. of Fentanyl. I am overweight, but not obese. A pediatric scope was used. I have endometriosis with obliteration of the cul-de-sac and 3 ovarian cysts that were not removed during laparoscopy because they were so inaccessible (10 weeks ago).
Avatar f tn Yes, they are safe. Most of us with cirrhosis commonly have an endoscopy and colonoscopy every year or so to screen and monitor the status of our varices. I have taken miralax many times with no adverse effects. What can more problematic is any anesthesia type drug(s) you may be given. I assume this procedure is being performed by your gastro and she/he is aware of your cirrhosis?
Avatar m tn I just had a colonoscopy with very little drugs at all. I had a tad of Valium and a bit of Fentanyl. I was awake the whole time and remember everything. I wasn't painless and was uncomfortable at times like when going around corners but the doctor told me how to breathe through those times. Overall, it was not an unpleasant experience and at one point we all started making fart jokes. I thought I'd hurt myself laughing!
7282682 tn?1397237735 For the test ( and have had several) they give you a short-acting narcotic. By the time you are up and ready to go you will be fine. I strongly suggest that you do some reading about addiction. Again, not advocating the use--far from it but you need to be educated. They will give your doctor the test results within a couple of hours. Let us know how you make out hun. You are in my prayers.
Avatar f tn t worked because twice he asked if I felt doppy and twice I said no. I had 2mg midazolam,100mcg fentanyl, 20mg buscopan. As I was given a coffee and biscuit after my colonoscopy was when I felt my sedative work. I felt floaty like I'd had a drink .
Avatar m tn I have heard from reliable resources that Versed can/will eventually cause PTSD and anxiety attacks in almost %50 of the patients, since they will start remembering the pain and helplessness (if fentanyl is 80 times stronger than morphine, why should they use versed [the date rape drug]?) I'm curious to know if virtual colonoscopy can be used as an alternative. If polyps were found, then I will have to give-in to the procedure.
Avatar f tn I ATE A SMALL BITE OF FOOD FOR THE FIRST TIME TODAY. GET THIS...I HAD TO FAST FOR 2 DAYS FOR A COLONOSCOPY AND ENDOSCOPY...IS THAT HILLARIOUS OR WHAT...I HAD ALREADY NOT EATEN BECAUSE OF THE WITHDRAWLS..AND THEN THEY GIVE ME THIS PREP...UGGG....ANYWAY I HAD TO GO TODAY AND I FELT JUST FINE. I NEVER LET ON THAT I WAS IN WITHDRAWLS...I HAD TO TAKE 32 , YES 32 PILLS THAT WERE BIGGER THAN MOTRIN 800"S....LOL. I ONLY NEEDED 16...I WAS ALREADY CLEANED FROM STOPPING THE PERCS...TOO FUNNY...
Avatar n tn s and PAT and he was not in the least worried. By the way, they use versed and fentanyl and from what I am told these have no affect whatsoever on pvc's. You will be fine!!! The prep was no problem either. I took the pills instead of the drink. No problems with pvc's.
Avatar n tn and I knew where I was and that I was having colonoscopy, but I was peacefully relaxed and unconcerned. The MD upped my medication twice, and still couldn't get the scope through. I'm really glad I wasn't trying that without medication! Are you a masochist or something?
Avatar f tn My osteoarthritis is suddenly much more painful just after my colonoscopy June 3. I’m wondering if the Versed and Fentanyl that were used could be the cause? If so, what measures can I take? Can’t take NSAIDS. I take Tylenol 8 hr once a day. Drink cherry juice, exercise on a bike and drink lots of water. I use magnesium chloride pain cream too. I’m 74. I take propranolol 10mg 2X a day & olanzapine 2.5 once a day. I have also been under Extreme financial stress.
Avatar m tn I have to have to have a colonoscopy and related surgery that requires that I undergo anesthesia. I take several benzodiazapan a day as well as occasional barbiturates. Are there specific dangers I should be aware of (e.g.
Avatar m tn m 47 years old and had a colonoscopy. I was scared to DEATH that I would have a reaction to the versed/fentanyl cocktail. SO...I didn't get it. I had the colonoscopy without sedation and although it wasn't a walk in the park I was really glad I could just get up and go home. I'm only 106 lbs and being so tiny it was extra hard pushing that hose up there. There were only a few moments of really bad bad pain but then once he reached the top, it was a breeze pulling the thing out.
Avatar n tn The cancer caused a stricture on her Colon and she needed a Colonoscopy Bag..and there were little cancer cells EVERYWHERE..both intestines, liver, pancrease, stomach, entire abdomenal wall. Her doctor said she should do Carboplatin..but Pallative said she has had no quality of life and with our without it she has 6 months. Her oncologist will not discuss her live expectancy. Do not know what to do. She has been so sick I just want to see her in no pain. Can low dose Chemo do anything?
Avatar m tn I too am afraid of sedation and my doctor had no problem performing my colonoscopy without sedation. I'm only 105 lbs and it isn't pleasant but I got through it and would do it that way again. He didn't even question me. They just had the iv set up in case I couldn't handle it. I'm in San Diego so if you are anywhere near me, I'll give you his name.
592912 tn?1307406761 I am trying to get the name so I can do my own research on it but this Dr is a real ***, Even the employees in the ER of the hospital tell me he is an ***, I also just found out why I woke up during my colonoscopy is that they used nubain and versed on me, I am allergic to demerol so my Dr that did my Endoscopy (didnt wake up during that) used fentanyl and versed. fentanyl and Nubain HUGE difference!!!!
Avatar f tn I got a colonoscopy and endoscopy done and it showed inflamation in my intestines, and 3 ulcers in my terminal ileum. The GI doc is pretty sure I have Crohns and put me on medication. Again, I didn't know I had inflamation, mild gastritis in my stomach and the ulcers. I had stomach pains before the surgery, but afterward I felt pretty good. I do get heartburn and gas a lot but I must have a mild form of Crohns because it's not too bad. It's not as bad as I've heard others tell.
398021 tn?1212590766 I had some sedation, fentanyl and something else. I was totally awake and the sedation made no difference at all. I will never have another one.
Avatar f tn Type in fentanyl and read their posts. It literally changes who you are and makes your pain seem to increase. My husband n sons are so happy to have me back, I am too! :) I'm 18 days fentanyl free and my pain is more tolerable now than without it.
Avatar f tn I have had an 2 EGDs, 1 colonoscopy, and a small bowel enteroscopy which is a more extensive EGD that goes further down all the way to the end of the jejunum and all of them but one were done while completely unconscious. Honestly you want to be unconscious if not you will gag and other stuff and you will freak out.
Avatar m tn i did one last week they did upper endoscopy and lower complete colonoscopy, they sedated me and put me asleep I woke up after wards not knowing the procedure was even done. i was also afraid of being put asleep but it actually was very pleasantand even after the operation i felt better than i ever did in a while did and took a nice nap afterwards.
Avatar n tn I am a 36 year old female, non smoker, non drinker, had a baby 4 months ago so still carrying some baby weight. I have suffered from pvc's, pac's and mild tachacardia for years. The pvc's can be severe, sometimes thousands per day. Had a echo a year ago, heart is structurally normal with mild regurg. EKg also normal. Holter monitor showed normal sinus rhythm and sinus tachycardia as patient has a high heart rate tenancy. Average heart rate of 100.
Avatar n tn I did not quite understand your question. You only had the Fentanyl once for Anesthesia? I know that some of the side effects include sweats and sleep deprivation that can last up to 6 wks. but have not heard of this after a one time use. Have you consulted your pcp?
592912 tn?1307406761 I had an Endoscopy last year and did not wake up during it, did not remember a thing, didnt even remember going home so I called the Dr that did that and found out he gave me Fentanyl and Versed. This Dr went up on the scale to a better drug and the other Dr went down The Dr knew that I was on Paxil long term and had been on Ativan short term. He said both can cause a person to be difficult to sedate.
1067022 tn?1257773762 Sorry to hear about your colonoscopy BUT I had this same thing happen to me a few years ago. They used fentanyl and some other stuff and I was still very wide awake and screaming in pain during the whole thing and of course the doctor didnt stop. But I always thought it had to due with my tolerence to pain meds at the time. So it had nothing to do with anyone stealing it if that person was already fired. Also I remember the pain being so bad from it that it took me several months to recover.
Avatar m tn s are VERY mild this time around! I was really expecting to go to hell and back with this fentanyl withdrawal but so far it has been 10x easier than my oxy withdrawals I went through last year. Anyone have any theories why my w/d this time around has not been nearly as bad as last time? I have been dependent for about 4 months this time around, using mainly oxy/dilaudid/fentanyl but I havent had oxy in awhile mainly just fentanyl and dilaudid.
Avatar f tn If they are giving you propophol (sp?) I have had it during colonoscopy. It made me sleep, and I had no nausea when I awoke. I usually have difficulty with anesthesia, makes me very ill, so propophol is a Godsend. Best of luck.
