Femara used as a fertility drug

Common Questions and Answers about Femara used as a fertility drug

femara

Avatar n tn t have that great a tendency to cause you to ovulate more than one egg at a time. So they are really useful when trying IUI. The IVF meds (and though I did IVF I can't recall all the names and which drug has what action) stimulate the ovaries to produce a lot of eggs during one cycle. This is fine if you are doing IVF because the eggs can be retrieved and then a select number placed back inside.
788859 tn?1236734548 yes femara has a short half life, so its out of your system way before conception starts! a lot of people on here have used it to get pregnant.. i used it on many cycles combined with injectables.. it helps with ovulation and endometriosis suppression as well, and has less side effects for most people than clomid! GOOD LUCK!
384150 tn?1399904816 i have used both clomid and femara, prescribed by my RE. i didn't get pg, but he felt femara to be a better drug.
Avatar f tn I've also never take clomid....just Femara and I've gotten pregnant 2ce from taking Femara! Some Dr's don't like to prescribe it (very few) but my Dr wouldn't even think of putting me on clomid.....He believes that Femara is much better....based on my results I have to agree! Good luck and I hope they'll switch you! (Femara is more known as a drug for breast cancer patients but it works wonders for us ttc!
144100 tn?1283522567 First, there are case reports of endometriosis being treated successfully by aromatase inhibitors, which is the class of drug femara is from. Second, femara results in a thicker, better looking endometrium, than clomid. On the other hand, femara is more likely to result in one egg being released, rather than multiple. I don't know of any info regarding clomid making endometriosis coming back more quickly. Why have you been prescribed femara?
398038 tn?1247857003 Candie, thanks for passing that info along! I was fortunate that my doctor had this handount from some Assisted Reproductive Technology Society organization, as there is little info online because femara is used "off-label" for fertility. As in, it's primary use is for breats cancer. My point is that paying it forward is the best feeling, and I am so glad you and these other ladies found this info valuable.
Avatar f tn Well AF is about to show anyday now (unless by some miracle I get a BFP). So I have 2 choices for my next cycle. Just wondering what you guys think I should do. A. Go with Clomid and no RE. Clomid helps produce more and better quality eggs, although one side effect is that it has the potential to create hostile CM. But I would be taking EPO, and using Pre-Seed in a hopes to counteract. I got this Rx from my general practitioner, so really no one would be monitoring me.
257175 tn?1204161973 I tried to ask for Femara, but my RE wouldn't give it to me since it is not FDA approved for fertility and is sanctioned as a breast cancer drug. I wish they would've though!
Avatar f tn I loved Femara (I've used it all ;)) I had no side effects on Femara, felt like it was a very 'natural' cycle...no increased mood swings, no intense ovulation pain, etc. I ended up getting pregnant on a natural cycle, but still credit Femara with 'jump-starting' my body ;) The only thing that was a bit unique for me, from what I've read on posts, is that I took ALL my Femara pills on CD3.
Avatar f tn I just finished taking Clomid for three months and no pregancy. I had a lap and am going to start taking Femara to try and concieve. Hopefully this works. I am just wondering if anyone else has taken Femara and what it was like ie side effects/pregnancy?! Thanks.
Avatar n tn That unforutnately was bad luck as it was a blighted ovum (nothing to do with the Femara). I just finished my first month again now. I'm on cycle day 28 now and don't think I got pregnant this month but next month who knows!
Avatar f tn Hi I have pcos and tried clomid with provera a few cycles with no luck at all didnt ovulate.....
1287560 tn?1272216521 You have all of this ideas and suggestions for med to try, and yet your doctor nor your country will let you try them. I wish I knew of a way you could get treated over the phone with a doc in the US. Man, what a pain for you! I pray that there is an answer someone can give you to help you get the meds that could/would help.
1773487 tn?1331540488 It has been approved for treating breast cancer, but it also helps produce and mature follicles. So although not yet technically approved as a fertility drug, it very much works as one; and there's definitely no reason to be scared to take it. Lots of women on here have taken our are currently taking letrozole (same as femara). Best of luck this month!
Avatar f tn hi! sorry to hear about what you've been going through!!! I unfortuantely understand very well! i was diagnosed with stage 4 endo about 6 months ago, (i had no symptoms, but premenstrual spotting) and i ended up losing an ovary from the endo... and then was later diagnosed with PCOS on my remaining ovary! : ( so we went straight to the fertitliy dr to hopefully get on the fast track to getting preg since time is so important with endo...
Avatar f tn my doctor doesnt think the femara has anything to do with the m/c and i trust him as he is a fertility specialist. they say 1 in 4 end in m/c so we will see if this is our month. i am in my 2ww.
223956 tn?1208737570 Has your RE talked about switching you off of the clomid and onto a different drug such as femara and possibly adding injectables with that? those can help your lining and make you produce more eggies to give you a better chance? GOOD LUCK! i hope AF doens't show!
1756475 tn?1330538713 Congrats I know how you feel I used clomid with no sucess then femara now 11 weeks pregnant
495138 tn?1221217880 s supposed to be better for your lining and your CM. I would definitely talk to the doctor about it. Femara is really a breast cancer drug, but it's "off-label" use is for Fertility, so I think some doctors don't prescribe it. If you search online about it, you will find a lot of scary info. on birth defects, but I have found that it leaves your system really quickly, so this is only a cause for concern if you take it while you are pregnant (Clomid has the same warning).
Avatar f tn I, too, used to take Clomid and now, I take Femara! Clomid was awful - I turned into a horrific person on it, but I didn't have any side effects with Femara. I do take my Femara differently than most, though...I take 10 pills on CD3 at the same time and that's it!! It works very well for me and it's helped me ovulate sooner (I was a late ovulater) and thereby, shortened my cycles!! Good luck!
1106081 tn?1289166025 If so, I would suggest that you move on to a fertility specialist, a Reproductive Endocronoligist (RE). An OB can only take you so far in the process, you are better off working with a specialist. Are you ovulating on your own? I O on my own, but have done several rounds of Clomd and several rounds of Femara to produce more then one egg to up our chances. We also did one round of Femara with the Ovidrel shot. The shot forces you O at a certain time, so your sex will be timed perfectly.
Avatar n tn Femara(letrazole) is a great choice for a lot of people! we have had a lot of BFP's on here with it! : ) it has fewer side effects than clomid for most people - no thining of your uterine lining like clomid, and it doesnt' dry up cervical mucus like clomid either.. i've personally never taken clomid, but they say that people have fewer hot flashes while on femara too.... we took femara 2.
