Common Questions and Answers about Femara research

femara

Avatar f tn I didn't even know about Femara until after I had already taken Clomid, so I didn't do any research on it. But from what I understand, Femara has fewer side effects compared to Clomid and it seems to work better for women with PCOS.
Avatar f tn So I am getting ready to start Femara on my next cycle...Clomid not working. Anyway I was wondering who is on or has been on it and when and how much did you have to take? I have done alot of research on it but I am just wondering why women are on such different doses and cd to take them? Is it just up to the individual DR.? Has anyone had success with Femara?? I need a little light at the end of this long tunnel....
Avatar f tn I tried only one cycle of Clomid but it caused me to have abnormal bleeding so now I am on Femara and im now 3dpo. When my doctor found out about what happened when i took clomid he right away suggested injectables and IUI but since I did research and just started fertility treatments I was not ready for that just yet so I mentioned Femara and so he agree and I did 2.5mg this cycle and the side effects are so much less then Clomid.
Avatar n tn After researching online, Femara is typically used to treat breast cancer. However, research has suggested there is a higher success rate with Femara vs. Clomid. Along with Femara, we are going to continue the Ovidrel shot. Ask you doctor about this. Maybe this could be an option for you and your husband. Good luck!!
320424 tn?1205500555 and got pregnant on that (+ follistim) and IUI , it was our third round of femara.. like everyone said, the nice thing about femara is the side effects are few and tolerable, it doens't thin your lining (which actually makes miscarriage rates lower with femara) and it actually improved my CM! i have endo and pcos as well, and it can actually be used as an endo suppressive drug, so thats why we choose it initially! good luck!
257175 tn?1204161973 I took femara after trying clomid unsuccessfully. I conceived on my second cycle of femara. I also had to have a trigger shot since I wasn't ovulating on my own (so you may want to look into that). I also had IUI. Good luck to you!
415867 tn?1323365503 I would definitely ask u to try out Femara once. With lesser side effects Femara is worth a try if you have already done 6 cycles of clomid. I O on my own yet did IUI and Femara to get pregnant. Femara helps u strengthen the eggs( my FSH was higher than expected) and IUI helped me cos DH has some morph issues. I think your Dr wants to make sure ur levels are down and u have one normal cycle before he puts u on medication again.
413852 tn?1317308712 Your OBGYN is right. Mine also had me use Femara for 4 cycles to try to increase our chances since I am in the dreaded "unexplained" category. It worked great for me, I O'd consistently, and had minimal side effects (just headaches and hot flashes here and there). We didn't end up with our BFP, but I have seen a lot of women who have with the Femara. Here are two information packets on it.
629668 tn?1222914854 I've taken Femara for about five months. I took Femara on CD3-CD7 with a HCG trigger shot on CD12 for three months in a row. Last month I did Femara CD3-CD7, a HCG trigger shot on CD12 and IUI on CD14. Unfortunately, it was unsuccessful. I go in for my 2nd IUI this weekend. Femara has helped thicken my lining, but I noticed that I am a little more emotional than usual. It probably doesn't help that I'm all stressed out about what's going on.
1287560 tn?1272216521 Have asked before but want to hear of any positive stories using letrozole(femara) to help with ovulation, this drug is primarily a drug used to help with breast cancer and is still in research stage for fertility problems, my dr is talking with other gp's because is not happy to prescribe it to me.
Avatar f tn in the middle of your cycle??? I took femara this month. Today is cd18. My LH and progesterone showed no ovulation occurred and that it is not about to occur. My E2 level was 91. Is that high or low for being in the middle of a medicated cycle??
405855 tn?1217100767 I am on Femara right now and have a dentist appointment for 3 fillings.
Avatar f tn My problem is also recurrent miscarriages. This is my first med cycle, I used Femara and am now 10 dpo. I don't really need the meds either, but my RE has me on them to increase my chances of getting pregnant this cycle. Have heard Clomid has more side effects, but Femara not so much. However neither one will help with miscarriages, nor cause one. Your chances are basically the same as without meds, except that meds may help you produce 2 eggs. So maybe at least one will work out.
Avatar f tn A question for you Femara ladies - did you notice any changes in when you ovulated while on Femara? I am starting my first Femara cycle in two days (I am CD1 today, doing Femara CD3-7) and just wondering what to expect. I usually ovulate CD17-19. Does Femara make you O earlier, later, about the same? Thanks for any insight!
1340383 tn?1309990914 I tried Clomid for one cycle, but it made my lining too thin, so we switched to Femara. Even while on Femara I had a thin lining - rarely more than 7mm. The month that I got pregnant, I was on Femara, I had drank red raspberry leaf tea before ovulation, and eaten a heck of a lot of pineapple core after ovulation. Apparently the tea "tones" the uterus, and pineapple core helps with implantation. Strange that your Dr would precribe something for you and not monitor you properly.
1504962 tn?1292507093 I have it PCOS, and I have done plenty of research on it. I just want to know how many of you experienced luck with taking Clomid/metformin. I know this is such a generic question, but I’m curious. I started my first dose this cycle and so far no signs of ovulation. I’m just looking for some feedback-also which type of side effects did you have from Clomid? Thanks again! It helps me to feel somewhat reassured that this up hill battle is worth it in the end!
144100 tn?1283522567 First, there are case reports of endometriosis being treated successfully by aromatase inhibitors, which is the class of drug femara is from. Second, femara results in a thicker, better looking endometrium, than clomid. On the other hand, femara is more likely to result in one egg being released, rather than multiple. I don't know of any info regarding clomid making endometriosis coming back more quickly. Why have you been prescribed femara?
Avatar n tn then there are also a few studies that show it makes no difference.. Our doctor seems pretty up to date on research and he said that in anyone in any month that sometimes the beta integrins are present and sometimes they aren't so they don't seem to hold too much weight on those studies from what he said... that being said.. he said it can be worth a try though.. we are going to try IVF without initially, and then might try the supression if that doesn't work..
1235159 tn?1323009319 I did find that the side effects of Femara were far less severe than the Clomid and, unlike Clomid, Femara does not affect your CM or thin out your uterine lining.
Avatar n tn I didnt get any response from any healthcare providers on my Tamoxifen/Femara question regarding weight gain and loss. Can anyone answer that question for me.
Avatar f tn My OB said she will only offer me one more month of Clomid she then will refer me out. I will research Femara and speak with my OB. Thank you.
Avatar f tn I just looked back at my charts and back in February I did CD2-6. I O'd on CD15. I havn't done a lot of charting on non-med cycles to know when my average O date is. And now I've done so many cycles of Clomid and Femara that I'm finding my O date is all over the place! I did 12.5 mg of Femara this cycle and O'd on CD10!!! Just confirmed by RE, per u/s, this morning.
1692948 tn?1306190482 this is my next option but with no response it doesnt look like a good way to go.. i know everyone is different but i am trying to do research before going through it and know what people have experienced ect...
Avatar n tn Do these hormonal drugs (tamoxifen, femara, etc.) prevent recurrence or just delay it? I thought that your risk of recurrence declines for good after you have taken them for the prescribed amt. of time.
1160836 tn?1332330169 I have been taking Femara the last 3 month, I also take metformin and esterdiol since my lining does not get thick enough on it's own. I have not gotten pregnant yet, but femara has worked great for getting my follicels ready. I have 3-4 follicles each month. I have PCOS and DH's morphology is on the low side, so there could be many reasons why I'm not pregnant yet. Good luck!
Avatar f tn d like to discuss trying femara for this 6th cycle instead of clomid since it thinned my lining so much for this cycle. But..I want to know..can I expect the same type of results from femara as I have with clomid? On 100 mgs of clomid, I have had a mature follicle ready for trigger on Days 10 and 11. Thoughts? Thanks!
