Avatar f tn However, you could also ask for a progesterone supplement to take after O has been confirmed to lengthen the luteal phase. Is there an RE in your area? If so, I would suggest seeing and RE instead of an ob/gyn. In addition to monitoring your cycles and prescribing more potent fertility drugs (obgyn somtimes prescribe clomid, but never injectables...as far as I know), the RE can also run some tests and make sure everything is OK with both you and your DH. Best of luck!
Avatar f tn I have done hcg shot twice now - once luteal phase was 16 days, the next time 15. RE said that # of follicles can affect luteal phase - having multiple follicles can lengthen luteal phase bc it increases progesterone level. Once the hcg shot is out of your system you could get a "false neg" if the pregnancy hcg level is not high enough for the test to detect yet. Some brands of tests are more sensitive than others. Good luck!
384150 tn?1399904816 Her perspective was that as it helps increase progesterone, and lengthen the luteal phase, then it is a positive. Now keep in mind, she is an OB, not an RE. I am going to ask her more about it at my next appointment, as that has me curious. I knew about the thinning of the lining, but want to clarify the "older women" issue. I don't know if a longer period is a good thing in terms of the lining, but it would make sense to me if that was the case. Good luck on next O!!!!
Avatar f tn Also if your cycles are that short you may want to take supplements to lengthen your luteal phase (time between ovulation and your next period). If your luteal phase is less than 10 days your chances of conceiving are pretty much nil. There needs to be 10 or more days or otherwise your body will begin menstruating, even if you do conceive, because the embryo doesn't have sufficient time to signal to your body that you are pregnant to prevent menstruation. I hope that makes sense!
Avatar f tn I have heard that taking the vitamin B6 can help lengthen your luteal phase, as well as progesterone cream. I bought B6 vitamins over the counter, but you'd probably need to speak to your doc about other methods.
Avatar n tn What is the luteal phase? I am trying to get pregnant and all this is really new to me.
583196 tn?1429221155 yep its def good for lengthening the luteal ph and dont take more than 50 mg per day also vitex can help with lengthening it as well :)
384150 tn?1399904816 You could also try vitamin B6. Some of the women on here been able to lengthen their luteal phase that way (although I guess it can take a few months before you see results). How long is your luteal phase now?
Avatar f tn it lengthened my cycle and was prescribed to lengthen the luteal phase. i o several days later when taking clomid.
Avatar f tn and it lengthen my luteal phase by two days. Not sure that helps you at all...lol I also should mention I took 100mg clomid day 1 and day 3 and then the other days 50mg the last 2 months. So I am sure one could ovulate on day 21 or soon after.
398038 tn?1247857003 Hi. I replied on the tww forum. Reading this post, I'm thinking you might still want prog. after O? That's what helped my luteal phase lengthen from 9 days to 12-14. My Ob said if I didn't take the prog. & I did conceive, I would most likely miscarry 'cause my prog. was so low ??
505800 tn?1226394593 Have you spoken with your doctor about possibly having a short luteal phase? The luteal phase is the time between ovulation and your next period. You must have 10 days or more in order to conceive. If it is any less there is not enough time for a fertilized embryo to implant into the uterine lining before your body begins to menstruate. I hope that makes sense. There are ways to lengthen your luteal phase. It'd be a great idea to speak to your doctor about this.
465737 tn?1315754922 Hi there b6 shouldnt change the colour of your urine, thats a sign of dyhdration...i started taking it to lengthen my luteal phase,i was taking it all cycle,i just took the one pill, however it made me ovulate late.i would take it after ovulation until your period arrives..it does work. as for CBEFM i also used this for months now,b6 will not effect your reading, the only thing that will effect it,is fertility drugs.that contain hormones etc in,so you will be fine.
Avatar f tn The time between ovulation and your next period is called the luteal phase. If your luteal phase is under 10 days you won't be able to conceive. There are things you can take to help lengthen your luteal phase in order to conceive.
Avatar f tn I read a lot about Vitamin B6 and how it can lengthen a short luteal phase, so I started taking 120 mg of B6 last cycle, midcycle. I was very happy to see that it actally worked. My luteal phase was 12 days that cycle (I am charting my BBT). This cycle however, I'm already 14 dpo and no sign of AF yet. I had AF-like cramping and pain around 11 and 12 dpo, but AF didn't show up. Now I have no symptoms at all, not of AF nor of pregnancy.
428506 tn?1296557399 Hi, this is my 3rd cycle using clomid and using OPK to test for my LH surge. I use the digital tests that give the "smile" result for a positive LH surge. My first two cycles, I got the positive OPK on cycle day 11 or 12. This time, it came on cycle day 15! I'd almost stopped testing, I thought I had missed my surge because I was already having cramping and cm. Since my +OPK was last night, I am scheduled to have an IUI today.
121828 tn?1333464491 ) I have been taking 100mg of vitamin b6 every night and it has helped lengthen it by a few days. You could always start there if you aren't ready to talk to a doctor about it yet. I haven't seen my ob/gyn, but will be scheduling an appointment soon. I need my annual pap anyway and I figured it would be a chance to talk about my TTC issues as well.
Avatar f tn there are a number of natural ways to lengthen your luteal ph, vit b6, vitex and red raspberry leaf will help to do this
Avatar f tn Lissie- hi! You need a luteal phase over 10 days in order to conceive because there wouldn't be enough time for a fertilized embryo to implant before your body begins to menstruate. If your body menstruates it sloughs off the uterine lining. Think of your womb like a nest. Your period is shedding that nest. No nest = no baby. I believe taking B6 or some B vitamin can help lengthen your luteal phase. You'll need to do some research on that end.
Avatar f tn If your periods are short, then it could be that you have a luteal phase defect. The luteal phase is the time between ovulation and your next period. The average is two weeks (hence why I said you get your period 2 weeks after ovulation). A luteal phase of less than 10 days means you won't be able to conceive as there isn't enough time for the fertilized embryo to implant and let your body know of its existence.
743753 tn?1242478382 Hi corissa! I haven't tried B6 myself, but I remember others on here say it helped them lengthen their luteal phase. I've also heard that it can take a couple of months to really start working, but that's great if you're already seeing a difference! Best of luck this month!
505913 tn?1248346152 He was able to lengthen her luteal phase with the use of some fertility drugs and she got pregnant immediately. She now has two beautiful little girls!
Avatar f tn I will be starting Clomid in March due to how short my luteal phase is 9-11 days (o to af). They may also do progesterone to lengthen it as well. Without the proper luteal phase you can have a fertilized egg that doesn't get the chance to "stick". U definitely need more information/second opinion/see a reproductive endocrinologist.
395342 tn?1217873786 I began charting after I had my 2nd m/c last year. I took several months of charts into my dr (she's great!) and we discussed my possible luteal phase defect. My luteal phase was from 9-11 days. She put me on 100mg progesterone pills starting on day 14 to see if it would lengthen my phase...it didn't....but about 10 months later I got pregnant. I took the progesterone until I was 12w and am currently 14w 4d! I think I would have m/c'd again w/out the progesterone.
887196 tn?1267555107 Thanks. I have recently started taking Vitex. This is my first cycle with it, so we'll see how it goes. I think I'll keep some vitamin B's on hand too, though!
Avatar f tn A large percentage ovulatory and menstrual problems are caused directly or indirectly by low levels progesterone following ovulation (the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle). Low levels of progesterone may cause LPD (luteal phase defect) or corpus luteum insufficiency. In the context of hormonal imbalances, Vitex may prove helpful with these infertility issues. According to studies and clinical research, vitex has proven effective.
598319 tn?1282102140 I am on cycle day 17 (of a usually 26 day cycle) and yesterday I got a positive OPK. I will be using progesterone to lengthen my luteal phase and I am supposed to begin taking it 1-2 days after ovulation. If got a positive OPK on CD16, what day should I begin taking progesterone? I was thinking CD 19 to be safe.
