Common Questions and Answers about Femara for infertility letrozole

femara

Avatar f tn Anyone get pregnant using femara/letrozole after being given unexplained infertility diagnosis? How many months did you take it before you got your positive? Me: 28 Hubby: 30 Sperms analysis perfect, laparoscopy perfect, all tests for ovulation and ultrasounds looked perfect. Trying since 2012 no pregnancy yet This is my 2nd cycle on femara, next ovulation expected on 1/14. If 3rd cycle not successful, will do iui with femara anyone else done this and got pregnant? ?
1626928 tn?1378850167 Treatment of endometriosis will depend on its severity. Consult an infertility expert. Do not get disheartened as treatment for infertility may take a few years to give results. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn Unexplained infertility for 1.5 years. I am not sure what could be the reason for my infertility , it might be endo but they didn't do a laparo for me yet. If anyone can tell me what other options do I have if Clomid failed?? So what worked for you ?
Avatar n tn Just before i found out i was pregnant my doctor had prescribed me letrozole femara which I didnt end up needing to take. Unfortunately, because I was so overwhelmed with grief over the miscarriage and could not think rationally, I decided to take the letrozole counting the bleeding from the d&c as a period in which i used from day 2 throught to day 6. As mentioned, it has now been 3 weeks 4days since the d&c and today I had a positive pregnancy test.
1287560 tn?1272216521 I had an HSG done and all tubes were clear. I was then put on letrozole (femara) days 3-7. Went in on day 14 for an u/s and had a follicle measuring 17.5mm. Did OPK for a few days and got my +. Went in the following day and had IUI. I am now 12.5 weeks pg with TWINS! Letrozole is a drug for breast cancer and is not FDA approved for infertility. If you are still seeing your OB and not a RE, that could be the reason for concern writing you a RX for it.
Avatar m tn Hi There! On my first round of Letrozole(Femara) and no ovulating is showing. Anyone not ovulate the first month, but then start next couple months, or is this med not like that?? I don't feel the best on it, but will try anything. Had our first little guy a year ago with in vitro. We can't afford that route again, so hoping we are blessed by just doing prescription helpers. But I don't want to keep taking something that makes me feel awful if it isn't going to kick in.
Avatar f tn Hi, Typically ovulation monitoring is carried out along with ovulation stimulating drugs like Letrozole. The monitoring can be done through external sonography but infertility specialists prefer vaginal sonography to find out the exact date when you ovulate and also the size of follicle(s).
1287560 tn?1272216521 If you are seing an OBGYN, most have not heard of using femara (letrozole) for fertility. It is a breast cancer drug. It has not been FDA approved to treat infertility issues. I was seeing a RE and he put me on it and also did IUI with it. I am now 12 weeks pg with Twins. It can and it does work! :) When I went back to my OB for my prenatal care, she asked me what was done to get me pg and she said she had never heard of it....so that may be why. Best of luck to you!!!!
795248 tn?1250686616 Hi! I am 31y.o. and have unexplained infertility. Have had a laproscopy and cromotubation and tons of blood work and I am perfectly healthy and beyond perfect for conception. Except for the fact that I can't conceive. My husband is perfect also. We've tried clomid for 4mos. and letrozole plus iui last month and tested this morning and got a neg hpt. I'm starting to lose hope. Has anyone else been here??
Avatar f tn I have been on femara for the last 4mos. The only side effect that I had were headaches but they went away a few days after I finished the med. Good luck!!!
Avatar f tn I've been on Femara (Letrozole) for about a year and a half. It didn't do anything for me...I never even had a period without forcing it. I recently had ovarian drilling and I know it has made a difference. After the drilling, the femara is supposed to be more effective so I am keeping my fingers crossed.
Avatar n tn ve personally never taken clomid, but they say that people have fewer hot flashes while on femara too.... we took femara 2.5mg once a day for two cycles, then upped it to 5mg once a day in combination with follistim and IUI's and got our BFP.. unfortunately miscarried but i will be starting that combo again tonight! GOOD LUCK! let me knwo if you have any questions or if there is anything i can help you with!
1057389 tn?1325465587 //www.femara.com/thank-you6-femara-cares.jsp. This saved me about $330 of infertility treatment. Unfortunately this is the last month I get free :( so hopefully I get a successful pregnancy this month. Good luck to all of you!
Avatar f tn Hi! I'll be taking femara 2.5 CD3-7 next week for superovulation. Has anyone had success with femara? I'm not counting on it to work after just 1 cycle, but I'm really hoping it will! Does anyone who has taken femara have any advice? Did you ovulate later than usual???? Any info you can give is appreciated!!!!!
255732 tn?1318517822 Hi! Yes, letrozole is the same as femara, and it does work alone. I used it alone for three cycles, and I had two mature follicles each time. As for moving straight to IVF after femara, I'm not sure why he wouldn't suggest injectable/IUI first...but you could always bring that back up if you don't get pregnant over the next three/four cycles. Best of luck to you!
256553 tn?1258883918 I had been using clomid, but my lining is very thin so my RE switched me. It worked great for me. On clomid I had 2 follies. On letrozole I had 6! I didn't get a BFP but it was bc my progesterone was too low. I liked it much better than clomid-no side effects at all. Good luck to you!
1773487 tn?1331540488 i did use Letrozole for 6 cycles...but no BFP...there were no side effects either....just got cramps during those entire cycles...i know 2 of my patients who used d same...one of them who had PCOD concieved with timed intercourse n letroz...d other who had endo like me didn't...however she got preggo by ICSI...Letroz is now banned in several countries but here in India its widely used....
257175 tn?1204161973 I tried to ask for Femara, but my RE wouldn't give it to me since it is not FDA approved for fertility and is sanctioned as a breast cancer drug. I wish they would've though!
Avatar f tn i was on the clomid n it did nothing but my doc put me on the norcolut for me to have a period n then letrozole to start on the second day of period i just finished my frist cycle so i have my fingers crossed an waitin an i also hear alot of girls said it works for them
Avatar f tn Letrozole is the generic name for Femara. You'll see it referred to as that on here, too. I am on my 2nd round and waiting to see if it worked this cycle. Compared to Clomid, the s/e are nil. Clomid was much worse. So far I've not noticed anything different with Femara. Good luck!
Avatar f tn If your gynae prescribed it, you should be able to get it at the pharmacy. Femara is another name for it.
398038 tn?1247857003 jnitro: I'm sorry the first round of Femara didn't work for you either, but maybe the 2nd time will be the charm for us!! tina1111: I am so sorry to hear about your disappointment with Clomid. I keep hearing that Femara works a lot better for people, so hopefully that will be the case for you too. G_S: I'll be hoping that this is just spotting and that AF never fully shows up! I definitely had a rough time too when AF came.
Avatar f tn He tried me on one more round of clomid 150mg to no avail. I had an HSG done and all tubes were clear. I was then put on letrozole (femara) days 3-7. Went in on day 14 for an u/s and had a follicle measuring 17.5mm. Did OPK for a few days and got my +. Went in the following day and had IUI. I am now 12.5 weeks pg with TWINS! It can and it does work!!!
Avatar f tn I feel like the Goldilocks of infertility) my RE put me on 5mg of Femara (letrozole) CD 3-7 this month. Per my Clearblue Easy Fertility monitor, it's been game on with the hubs this week. The 2WW starts this weekend. Clomid side effects were awful (hot flashes, mood swings, nausea). Not too bad with Femara - just some hot flashes. I'd love to know if you have success with Femara. Here's to Good Luck for is both!
691236 tn?1311199974 I did 2 rounds of Clomid and this cycle I switched over to Femara (exact same thing as letrozole). I didn't have the mood swings this cycle. Also it doesn't have the side effects that Clomid does of drying up CM and thining your lining. So far I am just as pleased with it as Clomid. I'm 10DPO, so we'll be finding out soon enough if it did the trick.
