Common Questions and Answers about Femara estrogen

femara

405855 tn?1217100767 From what I've understood, Femara is an estrogen inhibitor, so levels will be lower than normal right after you take the pills, but unlike clomid, it doesn't stay in your system, so your levels should go back to normal pretty quickly after. Since I'm also on Femara this cycle, I'm very curious to hear what your levels are at your next appointment. Best of luck, G_S, and keep us posted!!!
Avatar f tn (Also did follicle monitoring and hcg trigger that cycle) Femara is different than Clomid. Clomid binds to estrogen receptors and makes the body think estrogen is low. Femara actually blocks the synthesis of estrogen. Both have the same effect though - which leads to more FSH and LH which stimulates follicle growth in the ovary.
Avatar f tn I've had three cancers, all estrogen positive. I tried a few medications and I'm now on Aromasin, an estrogen inhibitor. I figure I'll try the Aromasin and see if it gives me more protection from a recurrence. It's the least debilitating of the aromatase inhibitors for me, but it does cause joint pain. It's in clinical trials right now for ovca, but I am NOT waiting for the results of the trial.
Avatar f tn Hello! Sounds like just switching from clomid to femara can help! clomid is known to thin the lining.. it depends when in your cycle you had those measurements.. also sometimes your utuerus can contract from the ultrasound and cause your lining to appear thinner than it is.....I know that sometimes people go on estrogen patches ( i think its to help the lining, but not 100%) but your dr has to measure your estrogen to check that first.. also progesterone in the 2ww helps as well!
Avatar n tn I had breast cancer in my right breast 7 yrs. ago, had a lumpectomy, & had chemo. & radiation therapy for that. I couldn't follow up with Temoxaphen because of negative receptors. Cancer was found in my left breast now, so I had a bilateral mastectomy and no cancer cells were found other than in the new cancer site when pathology was done on the removed tissue and nodes. this cancer had positive estrogen receptors. The diagnosis is good and was rated as a "0".
Avatar f tn s muscle, skin, breast and fat), which is used to convert androgens (hormones produced by the adrenal glands) into estrogen. In the absence of estrogen, tumors dependent on this hormone for growth will shrink. Both of these medications have similar FDA approved indications.
Avatar n tn Femara is used in estrogen receptor positive breast cancers to prevent cancer recurrence. It decreases the amount of estrogen in the body. Estrogen protects bone strength and if estrogen levels fall then there are increased chances of osteoporosis which can result in fractures. So calcium supplements are prescribed along with femara. There are few studies that do suggest that calcium supplements increase the risk of heart attacks. Discuss it with your doctor.
Avatar n tn I got a prescription for it and have been on it for almost a year. It cuts the estrogen production in the body, so that if your cancer is estrogen receptive, it's less likely that it will recur. I'm hoping for the best, because the side effects are kinda tough. So, yep, you bettcha I'm on it!
Avatar f tn I have never taken clomid only femara but I am guessing if you respond to clomid you also would to femara even though they work differently (clomid binds to estrogen receptors whereas femara inhibits the enzyme which actually produces estrogen) Regardless your body recognizes when estrogen is low and starts pumping out fsh to make the follies and that is what is impt. With your thin lining I would definitely bring it up, as femara should not do this.
Avatar f tn After my HSG was normal, I had a review with my Doctor. The doctor prescribed me Femara from the 3rd day of my cycle for 5 days and has asked me to take an Ovidrel shot. They are monitoring me on Blood work and Ultrasound to make sure I ovulate and then have the Inter on time. Please help I am very anxious and I have started thinking more about this. I want to be relaxed adn just not worry about this but the moment I am free, I think of it.
Avatar n tn t want to take fossamax or any more drugs than necessary, but also do not want a recurrence of breast cancer. Is there a clinical study and shows femara vs placebo rather than femara vs tamoifen (novartis trial)? What is the general recommendation? Can you stop femara if side effects become a quality of life issue? Thank you.
749784 tn?1233499310 Femara is an aromatase inhibitor, which inhibits the body from producing estrogen. I have a friend that got 2 remissions from taking Femara. She was stage IIIC. Her first remission was 15 months and her second one was 11 months. Only 1/3 of women with estrogen receptor positive ovarian cancer response to Femara so your mom is fortunate in that. I'd stick with it for now since it seems to be working and "save" other treatments in case she needs them.
Avatar f tn I was on Lupron injections. I don't know if you consider that "hormonal" but it suppresses the estrogen, thus supressing the growth of more endo. I was on it for 6 months...
135691 tn?1271097123 As you may remember, I am currently low grade, estrogen receptor positive. I have been on Aromasin for 17 months. I tried Femara first, but it didn't agree with me. At the time I was taking it, I was just getting over the severe reactions I'd had from Gemzar, so I can't really say if it was the Femara or not. But at any rate, my doctor at MD Anderson switched me to Aromasin, and it is working for me. The main side effect I have from it is bone pain.
Avatar n tn I don't know about Femara but I have gained weight on Tamoxifen. I get to stop taking it next month and I can't wait to see if I lose some of this weight.
216278 tn?1308861082 So, I took Femara for the first time this cycle - 10 pills on CD7 (he'd rather do them on CD3, but since my cycles have been running long, he took a chance). Anyway, I've been waking up with rather severe tummyaches and intestinal cramps and also getting massive headaches (borderline migraines) in the afternoon.... Could this be due to the Femara?
Avatar n tn Those are drugs that were primarily given to post chemo breast cancer patients since breast cancer is usually estrogen related. The correlation between breast cancer and estrogen related ovarian cancer is being studied, and the theory is if they work for breast cancer patients, they may work for estrogen related ovarian cancer, as well. For me, Aromasin has kept my cancer stable for the last 9 months.
Avatar f tn thanks so much for your answers. I'm new to femara. With my previous fertility doctor, he liked clomid better. With Clomd my estrogen level was always well in to the 1000's by day 12 or 13 but I'm on day 13 now (used femara on day 5-9) and my estrogen is only at 600. And I don't have any signs of having my LH surge yet where as I always surged on day 14 naturally on clomid. So I'm finding femara is working different for me. No idea if it's better or worse.
Avatar f tn Anyone get pregnant using femara/letrozole after being given unexplained infertility diagnosis? How many months did you take it before you got your positive? Me: 28 Hubby: 30 Sperms analysis perfect, laparoscopy perfect, all tests for ovulation and ultrasounds looked perfect. Trying since 2012 no pregnancy yet This is my 2nd cycle on femara, next ovulation expected on 1/14. If 3rd cycle not successful, will do iui with femara anyone else done this and got pregnant? ?
Avatar f tn in the past i used clomid/menopur with a trigger shot. this month, he switched to femara/menopur with a trigger. what is different about femara? I got 3 follies first cycle, and 4 last cycle. what would the difference be with femara? any side effects?
Avatar f tn I was mad and went to ctca and they were hopeful and optomistic. I took 3 rounds of doxil, then went on femara(anti estrogen pill) I was in remission for 3yrs and now the cancer is back. when I was diagnosed I was 40, now I,m 47. I've got 2 kids(9 and 16). After all this time I'm still so scared to die and I don't feel peaceful. How do ya'll cope with these issues?
Avatar f tn On femara, so does this mean femara is only helping the 80% and the 20% is not being addressed. Only was addressed through ACT .
320424 tn?1205500555 With Clomid the doctor would advise taking some estrogen to restore CM. I have been on Femara for 3 cycles and like it. I would any day suggest Femara.
