Femara bone density

Common Questions and Answers about Femara bone density

femara

Avatar n tn However, one side effect concerns the effect of femara on bone metabolism. There is significant risk of decreasing bone mineral density and therefore cause some bone brittleness when taking this drug. I suggest you have yourself worked up for bone mineral density or osteoporosis. The bone pains should also be evaluated for the possibility of bone metastasis, which can be initially misconstrued as drug side effect. Regards and God bless.
Avatar n tn I was on Femara and the bone pain was horrible. they wasn't any osteoporous Femara causes swelling and bone pain I switch to Arimidex after being off Femara for 2 weeks and am not having the pain. Please look in to Femara side effects and possible changeing to another drug. I even was in physical therapy for two months because I thought it was me but no it was the drug..
Avatar f tn arimidex or femara, has this common side effect of diminishing bone mineral density that may cause your pain. I believe that femara may cause the same symptoms. A plausible brilliant solution is to take these drugs together with bone protective agents such as fosamax, though the effect of pain lowering may not be immediate.
Avatar n tn Hi - after I finished chemo and starting rads in 2003 I was prescribed tamoxifen, took it for 2 months and my Oncologist changed me to Arimidex (one of the aromatose inhibitors) which I think has a 50% better prognosis for non recurrence than the old "gold standard" tamoxifen. I was thrilled, as it had just come on to the market here in England. However, 4 yrs down the line, I stopped it 4 weeks ago, due to severe bone pain (hips, hands and feet) and the pain has gone!
Avatar n tn I had a serie of 30 radiation treatments. My bone density is deteriorating, thus I would like to know whether I have to take osteobond 70mg weekly. Will arimidex contribute to loss of bone density? Thank you very much. Susan. This discussion is related to arimedex.
Avatar n tn I have a good diet, take exercise and my bone density is normal. I am 74.
Avatar n tn This drug can cause decrease in bone density and bone mass leading to osteoporosis and sometimes increased tendency to have fractures. If standard pain medications are not helping with these symptoms, I believe that you may discuss with your doctor regarding shifting to a different drug class such as tamoxifen (though tamoxifen has a different side effect profile, mainly from cardiac and vascular side effects).
Avatar n tn I know this is likely to be bone mets, but is it possible this could caused by Femara, since the bone scan was negative? This discussion is related to Bone metastasis rise in CA2729.
135691 tn?1271097123 So far, I am holding my own, though. However, I started out with bone density readings off the chart so it might take me a little more time to show any loss. Other side effects are insomnia (if taken before bed....I take mine in the morning, now), minor hair loss, and hot flashes. My plan with my doctor is to keep on with the Aromasin until it no longer works for me. After that, we'll move to something else...probably Armidex.
Avatar n tn What Femara does, however, is that it can have a side effect in bone metabolism causing decreased bone mineralization that can cause bone pains and sometimes may lead to increased incidence of fractures. Hope this helps. Regards.
Avatar f tn Twice I have had dexa scans that have told me I have very high bone density. Where normal is -1/0 mine is 4.4. I have the specific results but I cannot find any information on this. I hope it means good things. The man who has done thousands of these tests says hes never seen anything close to this.
Avatar f tn Quantitative computed tomography (QCT) provides a three-dimensional bone density image and thus provides separate estimations of cortical and trabecular bone densities. Based on the three-dimensional bone density image, QCT method can provides a structural stability of a bone to some extent.
Avatar f tn On contrary, I see bone density get thicker on thyroid medication. You asked for an article, here is one the best ones: Lancet. 1992 Jul 4;340(8810):9-13. Long-term thyroxine treatment and bone mineral density. Franklyn JA1, Betteridge J, Daykin J, Holder R, Oates GD, Parle JV, Lilley J, Heath DA, Sheppard MC.
Avatar n tn My Bone Density was real low, I was Dx'd with Osteoperosis. Im only 21 and a male. The reason for this was malnutrition because of IBD. I am on a few suppliments now. Avatar f tn Hi, My 6 year old daughter just had a bone density scan. The results given to me were as follows: The total body bone mineral density is calculated at 0.813 grams per centimeter squared which is 100% of the Z-score each matched value. The total bone mineral concentration is calculated at 921 grams and the bone mineral concentration per bone area is calculated at the 45th percentile in this child based on a lunar pediatric reference population. Can you please tell me what this means?
Avatar f tn So, I have medical induced menopause. I just had a bone density scan test done but can someone help me make some sense of it? I had one done two years ago and a repeat one done last week. It states that it is a comparison to my scan two years ago. Findings: -0.9 lumbar spine (L1-L4): Density (g/cm2) of 1.084; T-score of -0.9; Z-score of -0.5; %change of -3.1 Femoral neck (mean):Density (g/cm2) of 0.783; T-score of -1.8; Z-score of -1.8; Z-score of -1.2; %change of -4.
Avatar f tn I had 3 Bone density scans done in last 6 years, and the last one which was on Friday came back showing: Left proximal femur, the lowest score is obtained in the femoral neck. The BMD of this region is 1.134 gm/cm2 with a T-score of 1.3.Between examiniations, there has been a significant increase in the total hip BMD (.0.019 gm/cm2) Then it says: Based on the lowest T-score, the diagnostic category if : Normal (T-score >-2.5).
691935 tn?1421027090 I've read a lot of articles about how interferon in combination with ribavirin decreases bone density so I got a bone density scan after complete around 44 wks of therapy. I'm happy to report that I'm still within normal range and that the tx had no impact on that part of me.
109530 tn?1279743796 I went today for a bone density test - I have bad osteoporosis. The doctor thought I was too young - guess not! Anyhow - I see the neurologist for MS screening on Monday. Anyone know how common osteoporosis is with MS? Thanks for any information!

Avatar m tn Why isn't there a health tracker related to bone density/orthopedic diseases for women and men?
Tbd Does anyone get the Prolia shot for bone density loss due to chemo? If so what is your experience? I was diagnosed with breast cancer a year ago, had partial mastectomy last May, on oral chemo with calcium and Vit D supplements. I already had osteoarthritis and am at the age for bone density loss. Oncologist recommended Prolia shot to combat bone density loss but insurance has denied due to not medically necessary.
Avatar n tn Bone strength depends on both the density (quantity) of the bone and on the quality of the bone. It is possible to fracture your tibia. RISK FACTORS FOR PRIMARY OSTEOPOROSIS Postmenopausal osteoporosis is the most common form of osteoporosis, and risks associated with low bone density .
1253246 tn?1332073310 We discussed my condition and what my plans were for tx.She did routine tests and sent me for a bone density test.On friday her office called me and they said she needed to see me to discuss the results of these tests.I am petrified now because she told me bad news a year ago.I dont know what to think and I am a nervous wreck.I think if everything was ok she would just phone me.I am taking my husband with me cindy Maybe I am over reacting and hope that I am.I dont want more bad news...
Avatar n tn Hello hillre, Forteo is a man-made form of a hormone called parathyroid that exists naturally in the body. Forteo increases bone density and increases bone strength to help prevent fractures. Forteo is used to treat osteoporosis in men and women who have a high risk of bone fracture. Forteo can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert. Avoid smoking cigarettes, or try to quit smoking altogether.
Avatar n tn ) This study can be looked at in the light of the previous thread regarding Growth Hormone deficiency, which also causes or correlates with bone density loss. How many on the forum have had any concerns on bone loss in recent years? Maybe a doctor looking at an X-Ray made a comment, or a dental X-Ray showed bone loss, or deterioration, etc. Here is the study link: http://www.natap.org/2008/HCV/022008_02.
Avatar m tn Literature shows that Viread may cause bone mineral density loss. If one was to switch over to Entecavir or even the new Vemlidy, would bone mineral density be able to regenerate to pre-Viread levels?
