Common Questions and Answers about Femara and osteoporosis

femara

Avatar n tn I hate to tell you but I am on Arimidex and I have joint pain in my hips and knees and my fingers are stiff and swollen -- It started two weeks after I started the Arimidex --- It may be gentler than Femara but for me it hasn't been a walk in the part either -- Sorry your mom is feeling so poorly -- I hope they help her quickly -- maybe she should be taking Calcium with Vitamin D in the meantime
Avatar f tn Besides big joints like shoulder, leg, the joints in every finger is in pain. So my oncologist put be back in tamoxifen. Femara also has risk of causing osteoporosis and I have done bone density test during that time. I am post menopausal. What is recommended duration taking letrozole after tamoxifen?
Avatar n tn I was on tamoxifen for 5 years and have been on femara for 3. The back pain and joint pain has gotten horrible. I can no longer stand up straight or walk very far. I am 64 and afraid I will no longer be able to walk soon. I stopped femara 4 days ago. I wonder if any else has had this problem with the very severe joint pain, and if it will go away any time soon. The pain and quality of my life is so bad that I am taking the chance.
Avatar n tn In the early breast cancer clinical trial, the most common side effects seen with ARIMIDEX include hot flashes, joint symptoms (including arthritis and arthralgia), weakness, mood changes, pain, back pain, sore throat, nausea and vomiting, rash, depression, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, fractures, swelling of arms/legs, insomnia, and headache. Patients taking ARIMIDEX were less likely than those taking tamoxifen to stop treatment because of side effects.
Avatar n tn Mum was diagnosed March 2005 OVCA stage 3, reoccurance 2007 and 2008, each time treated with carbo and taxol. Currently in remission. Dr put her on femera and tamoxifen but since being on tamoxifen she has had 2 DVTs in her right leg. Dr today stopped them and put her on warfrine (sorry about the spelling). Dr thinks she might have to be on this for the rest of her life. Dr also said she expects mums cancer to come back at some point but her cancer is very slow growing.
Avatar f tn Hi there. Shortness of breath is not a listed common (and even uncommon) side effects of femara and similar drugs. Femara's side effects most commonly involve the bones and the bone mineralization process with more tendency towards osteoporosis and sometimes fractures. I suggest that you inform your doctor about this, as this may be due to anxiety, lung, or heart problem (which can be a side effect of previous treatment like chemotherapy or radiation therapy). Regards and God bless.
Avatar f tn p.s. To answer another part of your question, there are many medications available to treat osteoporosis, and if your doctor's intervention does not lead to approval for Prolia, s/he would be the best person to recommend the alternative most appropriate for your specific case.
Avatar m tn I have body aches, joint and muscle pain and trigger finger. I am 55 years of age and already have osteoporosis. I know that letrozole can also cause osteoporosis. My doctor has decided I only take letrozole every other day because of my side effects and osteoporosis. I hope this amount will still keep the cancer away. Any suggestions on someone taking it every other day.
144100 tn?1283522567 Also, I have read that Clomid can lead to endo coming back quicker. Is this true and is it also true of Femara? I am very worried that then endo will come back, and I would really like the Femara to work well!! Thank You!
Avatar f tn I used Clomid for one cycle and it worked. Did you ovulate on Femara? Some women with PCOS have better luck with Femara than they had with Clomid.
Avatar f tn Greetings: I have hepatitis C and am taking 2.5 Femara. My oncologist and my Hep C doc are at odds about the amount i should take. My Hep C doc thinks i should only be taking 1/2 that amount. I'm at a loss as to what to do. I recently had a liver biopsy which showed no scarring and have had Hep C for almost 30 years. I am worried that the Femara may be doing untold damage to my liver. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!
Avatar f tn Has anyone used Femara or Clomid and a "boost" of injectables and gotten a BFP? I will be doing 5mg of Femara CD 4 - 8 and then 150IU's of Menopur CD 9 - 11. We'll go in on CD 12 to check the follies and then hopefully proceed with IUI. I am hoping for more than 1 follicle. With Clomid and Femara I usually only have one follicle. It is usually nice and big though. Any thoughts would be helpful - any! Thanks..
Avatar f tn I have recently taken my first cycle of Femara to make me ovulate. I have PCOS and do not ovulate often. I am now on cycle day 19 and according to my BBT I have not ovulated. Is is a common thing to ovulate late on Femara? If so, how late is too late to hold out hope for ovulation?
492898 tn?1222243598 Women on Aromasin were more likely to have fractures, joint pain, osteoporosis, visual disturbances, and diarrhea, while women on tamoxifen were more likely to report vaginal bleeding, muscle cramps, and blood clots. 4.Aromasin is actually an aromase inactivator (meaning that it permanently stops the aromatase enzyme's production), as opposed to the aromtase inhibitors (such as Arimidex). 5.
Avatar f tn Why do REs start with Clomid and not Femara? We all know that Clomid causes CM dryness and cysts.. then y do REs not start with Femara from the first time itself??? This Q has been bothering me since long.. Anyone knows???
1299014 tn?1273247877 I had 6 IUIs using clomid before and got pregnant but unfortunately I miscarry at 6 wks at most. So my doc suggested Femara on my CD 2 for five days just as Clomid. I was supposed to have an IUI on Tuesday. I had an E2 test yesterday counted 61.94 though I developed 5 eggs ,he said it's low and must have another tomorrow and see if it increases or else he would cancel the IUI . So does Femara causes a drop in the E2 level? Is this normal?it's my very first time to use Femara!
605893 tn?1220181685 Osteoporosis is most common in women after menopause, when it is called postmenopausal osteoporosis, but may also develop in men, and may occur in anyone in the presence of particular hormonal disorders and other chronic diseases or as a result of medications, specifically glucocorticoids, when the disease is called steroid- or glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis.
Avatar n tn Thats very exciting that your doing that! I have read the studies on the femara and hear its amazing! they actually went back in and did laps on people after three months and it was a HUGE improvement if not gone! we have been using femara 5mg for ovulation stimulation since it might suppress the endo super briefly while inducing super ovulation! GOOD LUCK with everything! keep me updated with how it goes!
Avatar f tn This is my first time on here so I hope this works. This is my first month doing the ovidrel and femara together so I don't know what to expect. I have done the femara alone and have also done the clomid, but the shot is all very new to me. I have another u/s tomorrow to make sure I can have the ovidrel. It would just be nice to know if this has worked for someone and if it has, how well.
Avatar f tn last month was my first month and femara. I had the same spotting, and my cycle was also 30 days. (usually mine is 35 though, so 30 was better for me). . . the spotting bothered me too, I kept hoping that it was implantation bleeding. But no, finally af came full force. This is my second month on it. I o'd the same day this day as last month, so expect the cycle will be 30 days again. Good luck with your IUI!!
Avatar m tn Osteoporosis is a common condition where the bone becomes thin and fragile, creating an increased risk of fracture. Osteoporosis is usually painless until a fraction takes place, and osteoporosis is a major contributing factor to bone fracture, including hip fractures, which are more common as people age. There are almost 2 million hip fractures annually around the world. While in the U.S.
Avatar f tn Does anyone have any experience of stopping Arimidex and getting a different med that does not have the side effect of bone pain? I had two fractures in both feet last year and am concerned about osteoporosis (I am considered osteopenic at present) and particularly a hip fracture, so do want to continue with the Fosamax if possible. Many thanks for any advice/help. Liz, in Cornwall, England.
Avatar n tn I was on femara and the pain was so bad. I thought my back and knees hurt from exercise the pain was from femara. all my bones hurt. when i went off it within 10 days the pain was gone. I am now on aromatex although not purfect the pain is minimal and if i swim alot it helps with the pain. there are other drugs that do the same.

Avatar f tn Hi there-I was on clomid 2 months with IUI and trigger-only had 2 follicles both times. I was on Femara this month, trigger and IUI and I had 6 follicles. I also took it on 4-8. So, for me, femara worked much better. I didn't do Menopur. I am in my 2ww and will find out on Tuesday. I wish you all the best!
