Avatar m tn My doctor told me that my cholerestrol is to high but when I did all the ratios they were excellent. I have a very high HDL but also a high LDL and I have been on thyroid medicine for 30 years. Is there a cooralation?

Avatar n tn My total cholesterol was 548 2 months ago increased synthroid from 50 to 100 now cholesterol is 240 and we have increased synthroid to 125.No cholesterol pills just synthrois increase. Good Luck.My blood pressure is high as well. I have hypo with hashimoto's.
Avatar m tn d put the worry of the statin on the shelf, and save the worry for the cholesterol numbers. Your LDL is pretty high and your HDL is so-so, doctors like to see a 3-1 ratio of bad-good cholesterol readings. Both Ed and I have zippers in our chests from open heart surgery to prove high cholesterol numbers can lead to serious heart problems. I agree with Ed that inflammation of the arteries is a big issue.
Avatar n tn Being overweight does not mean that that is a cause of high cholesterol. I am very overweight at the moment and my bad cholesterol levels have never been high. I do eat a lot of fresh fruit, salads and vegetables. I do not eat a lot of red meat (but do love beef which we have as a special treat - mainly because beef is more expensive that other meat products). Best wishes.
Avatar f tn I just my physical done two weeks ago and my doctor called me back telling me that my cholesterol is very high and that she needed to increased my synthroid (thyroid replacement medicine) from 150 mcg to 175 mcg. The reason for the increase she says was because my thyroid is "sluggish"? So I asked her if my thyroid being sluggish has anything to do with my high cholesterol and her answer was no. Could this be related? Isn't part of the thyroid function to control your metabolism?
Avatar f tn QUIT smoking or vaping. This causes a myriad of issues and is linked to high ldl cholesterol. For triglycerides, alcohol is a big culprit. Also true . . . drinking alcohol raises blood pressure. Eat whole grains and avoid sugar. Niacin (*** check with doctor first before taking!!) and B vitamins (okay to take on your own) are also said to help. https://www.webmd.
1810531 tn?1344529717 I know high cholesterol can run in families and my dad did have coronary heart disease but I just dont understand the massive hike in my levels within a year as my diet is basically the same. has anyone got any suggestions. Thank you Wendy.
Avatar n tn My cholesterol was 328 up from 230 in one year. My triglycerides are 97 and HDL 54. My VLDL Calculation 19 and LDL 255. My doctor was concerned and put me on 10mg of Crestor. That was a month ago and I am due for another blood work up in a few weeks. Reccently (twice) my hearing got fuzzy and I got a little dizzy. It cleared up after a few hours. Should I be concerned. I feel like a walking heart or stroke candidate.
Avatar f tn I just found out I have extremely high cholesterol and fatty liver....
425200 tn?1368741070 You numbers are pretty much right where they should be. Your total is high because your good cholesterol levels are high, which is a good thing. You LDL or bad cholesterol is within normal ranges and I calculate your TGLs at 145 which is also good. Overall, very good numbers. I wouldn't get too excited with a slightly high total cholesterol along with a high HDL, normal LDL and TGL unless you have heart disease in which case you should have an LDL under 100.
Avatar n tn High cholesterol has been linked to the development of coronary artery disease and heart attack. With family history of high cholesterol, it is very unlikely that dietary modification and life style adjustment (exercise, stress reduction, avoiding tobacco) are going to play a substantial role. You have not provided me with your LDL, triglycerides, and HDL levels which are more important in deciding further care.
Avatar f tn My doctor informed me yesterday that my total cholesterol is up to 238, and suggested I begin following a low cholesterol diet, and get 1 hour of aerobic exercise 3 x/week. Is there an effective diet plan including low cholesterol foods, that you could recommend?
Avatar n tn For the life of me I can not get my LDL down, despite trying low fat diets (except for almonds!) Someone mentioned that there are two subtypes of LDL and that one is bad and the other not so bad. It was also mentioned that having a low HDL/Trig ratio normally indicated that you probably have the less bad kind of LDL. My Dad is 85 but had stents put in 7 years ago, so I don't know if that is normal family history or not. Are there any options for me. Should I go on statins?
Avatar m tn Did a cholesterol test using the Mission 3-1 meter and results were very high. Total 319mg/dl, HD 100,Tri 86, LD 184. My BP is always excellent & CRP 0.2mg/L. Did have a root canal 7months ago followed by 6months of digestive issues which happen a week after taking a course of antibiotics. Is it likely to high a diet in protein/cholesterol & digestive issues giving these high readings?
Avatar m tn Yes, it is common for people who are treating to find cholesterol rises during or post tx. The simplest explaination for this is that the liver is responsible for making cholestrol and so, as the liver function improves so does it's cholestrol making capabilities. My cholesterol and LDL went crazy post tx and I am due for a another check up to see if they have levelled out yet.
Avatar n tn man who has a high cholesterol level. Your weight may be discrepant with your diet and intake of saturated fat. 80% of our cholesterol comes from our food intake.I suspect that within 6 mo you could lower that total cholesterol with a diet consuming less than 35-40 total gms fat per day <15 gm saturated fat/ day. You would kill two birds with one stone.
894666 tn?1274097896 Yes my Cholesterol shot up high with Hashi/Hypo..Was tested again after eight weeks on meds and is now back in line...
Avatar m tn It's for cooked eggs, since eating raw eggs can be dangerous. However, raw eggs actually help fight cholesterol because raw egg yolks contain the best quality lecithin of any food, and lecithin helps liquefy cholesterol and keep it moving. Remember, cholesterol by itself isn't dangerous, it's only when it oxidizes that it is. I don't think the latest research backs up such a strict restriction on egg consumption.
Avatar m tn I can't answer your question but wanted to let you know that none of us are doctors here, it is just HCV patients helping each other. We do have a lot of members with a wide range of experiences though, and I hope someone will come along who knows the answer to your question. Personally, I have not heard of any connection, and I can also say that my personal experience would argue "no" to your question.
Avatar f tn I have always had a problem with cholesterol. I just got test result back today and cholesterol total is high 5.9 mmol/l ( normal range is 3.9-5.2) and LDL is 4.4 (normal range: 0.5-3.4). Before my total cholesterol and LDL were always borderline. I only cook with olive oil, eat lots of veggies, less meat, moderate excersise (walking mostly). Please help advise how I can lower my cholesterol. Thank you!!
1995824 tn?1330379049 The issue now, until I get my next viral load test, is high cholesterol. My cholesterol is 322 and triglycerides are 180 or something. I remember reading that HCV can cause lower levels, and mine have always run pretty high anyway. I think it is mostly hereditary but I also smoke (time to quit, I'm thinking). S I expected the levels to be higher....just not that high! I am sure the doctor is going to want to put me on some sort of medicine to help lower and control this.
