Common Questions and Answers about Femara and endometriosis

femara

1626928 tn?1378850167 Hey guys, I am a 27 year old female and have been diagnosed with PCOS and endometriosis. I have taken 4 months of clomid up to 150mg and did not produce one egg. I recently switched doctors and am getting ready to start my first cycle of femara. I am taking 2.5mg two times a day of femara/letrozole and 1500mg a day metformin. I am curious about side effects, advice, success stories, etc. I am anxious and have been TTC for 3 years total, 2 with a doctors assistance. THANK YOU in advance.
374593 tn?1257879950 If you are not planning to do IVF, then immediate ovulation induction/IUI after surgery is probably better before the endometriosis returns. I think Femara is a great choice for ovulation induction for women with endometriosis. Of course, you should discuss this with your own infertility doctor.
795248 tn?1250686616 This will be my 2nd iui and this will be my third cycle on femara. I cycle on femara with iui, one cycle just femara and this cycle on femara with hopefully iui around the 30th, 1st or 2nd(weekend). We have been ttc for over 2yrs and have unexplained infertility. All of our blood work and tests and u/s are perfect. Our sperm is perfect and eggs and uterus look great. I was just looking for others that are going thru the same thing so we could support each other!!
Avatar n tn Thats very exciting that your doing that! I have read the studies on the femara and hear its amazing! they actually went back in and did laps on people after three months and it was a HUGE improvement if not gone! we have been using femara 5mg for ovulation stimulation since it might suppress the endo super briefly while inducing super ovulation! GOOD LUCK with everything! keep me updated with how it goes!
Avatar f tn I recently had an laparoscopic done to remove scarred tissue and endometriosis.... My Fallopian tubes are both unblocked. I've had my cycle and I'll soon be ovulating... Have anyone had any success conceiving after laparoscopic procedure?
Avatar f tn I do not have a postitive IVF story, but i do have severe endo, with only one ovary and male factor (and pcos and LUFS haha! so many issues!) anyhow we have gotten preg via IUI twice but miscarried both times.. but the good news is that it did implant and stay a while the first time with severe endo..
Avatar n tn If you were my patient, I would consider ovulation induction once we knew whether or not you have endometriosis. Endometriosis can be worsened(or improved) by hormonal manipulation. I would start with a medication such as Clomid or Femara. Good luck!
725941 tn?1297882209 Hello! i think there are several of us on here that have gotten preg with femara.. i took two cycles of femara without any luck (but we were told due to our issues including male factor we would need IVF.. so this wasn't a shock) but then the 3rd IUI did femara + injectables and it did work.. i have endometriosis and they really like femara for endo patients as well.. it doesn't thin the lining like clomid.. did your doctor do an ultrasound to check how many follies you had?
Avatar f tn ( ) and have been on femara.. we got preg on femara + follistim but unfortuntely miscarried.. so i'm back on the femara and follistim again (this is cd8) many people start taking it on day 5 of their cycle instead of day 3.. so if you cna't get it until then it should be ok.. Do you already have the prescription?? what day of your cycle are you on now?? good luck!
1351105 tn?1277142905 I'm 24, will be 25 next month, I was diagnoised with endometriosis when my son was 7 months old in 2009. After he was born I had 2 months of bleeding. Then it went to every other month. Had the lapra done in July 2009 when that was then when I was diagnoised with endometriosis. Afterwards I'd be lucky to have a period once a year. Had to start taking provera every other month just to have a period. My husband and I were trying for baby number 2 in September 2009.
374593 tn?1257879950 I was on Femara for 3 months for the treatment of endometriosis and had alot of side effects from the treatment. I could not function.i have been off of Femara for 1 1/2 years and still experiencing side effects from the drug! My endo is back the pain is worse than ever! Doctors don't know much about effects of the drug in premenopausal women. Terrible side effects from Femara....not worth it!!!!!!!
374593 tn?1257879950 Would vitamin C (1000mg or more) help with fertility and endometriosis while undergoing fertility treatments? (IUI's with femara, and progesterone supplements) Since they say that endometriosis has an immune component, I was curious if adding more vitamin C supplements would be useful in combating that? Thanks so much!
199922 tn?1224786706 t been on this site for a while - I hope that during my absence you guys got a lot of BFP ;-)) I have been diagnosed with endometriosis and this wednesday I am going to have my laporoscopy done. I have been told that this will increase my chances to get pregnant and of course it will help to treat the discomfort I have from the endometriosis which makes my life really difficult - any words of wisdom?
Avatar f tn I was on Femara for 3 months for endometriosis. 2 weeks into treatment I also started having intense constant chest pains amongst other terrible side effects. I've been off the Femara for about 1 1/2 years and still have chest pains and other lingering side effects that my doctors can't explain.
349135 tn?1267105573 I also have endometriosis and PCOS (my LH is too high as well) they are not putting me on metformin, instead i'm just doing diet modification to help with the insulin effect that can come with PCOS.. so i used to eat a diet of pretty much only carbs! i loved my sugar!!!! and now especially around ovulation i try to eat a very low carb diet, which is SUPER hard! but i'm trying anything I possibly can since we will be moving to IVF soon...
458314 tn?1206259703 My friend was diagnosed with severe endometriosis when she was 27, she is now 41 and has three lovely children, they managed to conceive 3 seperate times. Any you having any treatment? We've considering iui's or ivf.
368461 tn?1291515587 My RE said clomid thins your lining too much so she only uses femara. We went the femara route and it worked first try.I am now 10w2d. I am 36. I also dont think higher than normal fsh alone is a good indicator of egg quality. You need an fsh test along with AMH, estrogen, progesterone, to get a true picture of that. (Mine was 11.4 when we first started TTC and I had endometriosis surgery and it went down to 5.5.
Avatar f tn I was on Femara and Necon for 3 months to treat endometriosis. 2 weeks into treatment I started getting side effects like scary muscle pains throughout my body especially in my chest and legs, unable to concentrate and focus, memory loss, joint pain ,anxiety, rage, depression... the list goes on and on. Every time I would call the prescribing dr with a side effect he would tell me it is not from the medication.
1524060 tn?1291358776 I am 28 and other than VERY mild endometriosis we have unexplained infertlity. Both my husband and I have been checked 6 ways to Sunday and still don't have any answers. We have been to 4 different specialists, and have FINALLY found one that is right for us. We tried 2 years of timed intercourse, 7 cycles of 2.5mg of Femera w/ timed intercourse, 12 months of "not trying", and 9 cycles of Chlomid. We even tried some crazy natural modalities out of desperation w/o success.
Avatar f tn I had an HSG to make sure my tubes are open and they are. I had my first round of femara 2.5mg and metformin 500mg last month. Went back to the doc and he said no luck PCOS still in the way. Did a progesterone test and my level was 8.7 some docs say I ovulated some say I didn't I have no clue. AF arrived as to be expected and I did another round at 2.5mg amd metformin 1500mg. Went to the R.E. Specialist yesterday and had a u/s apparenltly femara does not like me at least not 2.5mg.
553399 tn?1290832126 side does not function due to severe endometriosis and an endometrioma destroyed it - had it removed by surgery, and we have lots of other issues too) we got preg using femara, follistim and IUI.. unfortuantely miscarred later , but trying again with the injectables and femara and IUI.. so hopefully it will work again! GOOD LUCK!
413852 tn?1317308712 We started with Clomid and tried for 6 months, then Femara for one month and both had no results on me this time.Moved me to Follistim shots for 2 months.first month 75iu and 2nd month 125iu with no luck. This month we did Femara again cycle days 5-9,HCG shot this morning and our first try of IUI tomorrow morning. I have 2 folicles per Ultra Sound (Thank you God and Femara) Left ovary follicle Sunday measured 18 and Right ovary follicle measured 14.
Avatar f tn I also had my AMH tested and it was low end of normal .07. I took medications femara(in my opinion better than clomid because u have few side effects and doesnt thin out your lining) follistim, novarell, estrace, progesterone, prenatal vitamins, fish oil, vitamin e, calcium, vitamin d, and folic acid along with timed intercourse. My first round of meds I am now 6weeks pregnant.
398038 tn?1247857003 I was thinking the same thing about endo and Femara. I'm on Femara and had endo, so I'm crossing my fingers that your theory is right!!
99627 tn?1301270952 I had ovarian Cyst removed in 2003 and doctor found some endometriosis and cleared it. We did 3 IUIs before we did 2 IVF no succes. We changed our RE and he started me on clomid the first month for clomid challenge test. My FSH came back 9.2 on both day 3 and day 10. I am 30 years old, so he said this was little on the high side. DH did SA and morphology is only 4% normal. RE put me on Femara this month and did IUI again, unfortunately did not get pregnant.
Avatar m tn At the end of the 2nd cycle they did and u/s and told me it was gone. I started the femara again and told my DH, this is it, lets go the donor route if this doesn't work, cause I'm physically and mentally exhausted from all this. On cycle day 10 I went in for an u/s and was told that they didn't see the cyst on day 3, but it was still there and now 39mm due to me injecting Gonal-F. (wow, how'd they miss that). Fortunately I had grown 2 follies on my left side.
