Avatar m tn Coadministration with the hepatitis C virus (HCV) NS3/4A protease inhibitors, boceprevir and telaprevir, may increase the plasma concentrations and pharmacologic effects of calcium channel blockers, especially the dihydropyridines (e.g., amlodipine, felodipine, nicardipine, nifedipine, nisoldipine). The mechanism involves inhibition of intestinal and hepatic CYP450 3A4, the isoenzyme primarily responsible for the metabolic clearance of most calcium channel blockers.
Avatar n tn However, since the accidental discovery of an interaction between the calcium channel blocker, felodipine, with grapefruit juice,1 it has now become evident that grapefruit juice has the potential to alter the plasma concentrations of many medications when they are taken by mouth. In some cases, this may result in undesirable clinical effects of medications.

Avatar n tn In June '08 I was sitting watching TV when my left side from my head down to my leg became stiff and numb. Went to the ER and checked by 5 neuronogists, had scans, MRI & other tests. Their consensus was a brain event in the rt. thalemus. For 2 & 1/2 yrs I was living with a 5 out of 10 sensation but last Dec. '10 as I was having dinner, the sensation became worse like an 8 out of 10 and I'm having increased trouble moving my whole left side.
Avatar f tn I am active, never sick but use eyedrops for Glaucoma, very slightly elevated blood pressure for which I take a mild 5 mg. Felodipine tab and vytorin for slightly elevated cholestrol. My chol. ratio with meds is 2.3. The last week I have had a great slowing of my pulse. For three days it didn't get over 42 and on one day if got down as low as 37 and then 38 and stayed there all day. My blood pressure has been about the same as it always is....

Avatar f tn During the last 3-4 weeks of my pregnancy I was diagnosed preeclamptic/eclamptic. I delivered a week ago and 2 days after I had these horrible headaches with a burning sensation on my neck/back area. My blood pressure was 162/132 I went to the ER and they gave me meds to lower it. I'm now on blood pressure medication...5 pills a day...2 different meds. Has anyone experienced post partum hypertension?

Avatar n tn I was just wondering if I truly have hypertension? Or could it be White Coat Hypertension? Or could it be prehypertension as I have a family history?
Avatar f tn It's possible that you have what they call "white coat hypertension" and its also possible to have real hypertension. Its disturbing that your dr just assumed you were a hypochondriac and gave you a powerful benzo to treat it. Drs dont normally put a patient on meds after just one high reading and so I wouldn't necessarily say he is wrong for not immediately putting you on blood pressure medication.

Avatar n tn A systolic pressure of 140 is classified as stage 1 hypertension. For that, one is usually advised to try lifestyle modifications (smoking cessation, alcohol moderation, sodium restriction, the DASH diet, increased moderate exercise, etc) to bring it down. A diastolic pressure of 56 is lower than average, but as long as you are asymptomatic it is not a problem.
Avatar f tn Hypertension is associated with the resistence of the vessels the heart pumps against. For instance, the smaller the diameter of the vessel the more resistance...diameter can be reduced by a buildup of plague and/or soft plaque that narrows (stenosis) the lumen (vessel channel). Medication that dilates the vessel reduces the resistance. Trivial MV regurgitation does not have any symptoms and is considered medically insignificant.
Avatar f tn WHAT ARE GOOD DRUGS FOR TRAETING HYPERTENSION? WHAT DRUGS ARE NOT GOOD FOR HYPERTENSIOMN?
Avatar m tn t think it is directly causing hypertension, I found psychcentral says PTSD can make a person prone to hypertension. Your blood pressure ratings are through the roof, are you taking a medication for it? I too have been diagnosed with PTSD and have usually high blood pressure but mine is nowhere near that high and seems to fluctuate. Are you on medication for the PTSD as well?
