Avatar f tn So my question to membes is how does one overcome this fear of medication. I know I have to learn to conquer this anxiety, so any responses would be appreciated. Thanks.
Avatar n tn I started taking concerta 8 months ago and it has made ia great change in the fear I USED to have speaking in front of people . I till stutter but not near as often when speaking in front of adults .

Avatar f tn You are both suffering from a very common phobia. Fear of the dark goes back to the dawn of man and since that time, millions of people have fought it all there lives. Please do not berate yourselves for this phobia or think you are silly for being afraid of the dark at your age. Our phobias are ours to own and suffer with as long as we do nothing about them. Since both of you have stated that your phobia is now interfering with your lives, it's time to take the bull by the horns!
1348086 tn?1370783185 You fear having the attacks, and the stress makes you have them, which in turn makes you fear having another. A good medication and speaking to a psychiatrist would most likely alleviate your problems. You don't have to live with it. I suffered horrible panic attacks and would wake up at night in the middle of an attack and not make any sense, feeling like I needed to be rushed to the hospital.
Avatar f tn d probably start by seeing a therapist or other professional who specializes in treating this problem, or maybe taking a public speaking course and practicing until you lose your fear of it. Or learning some CBT type techniques of relaxation and demystifying the situation. There are herbs and other amino acids, such as taurine, that can also be helpful, though any relaxation supplement or medication can cause sedation.
Avatar m tn Does anyone here share an extreme paranoid fear of the effects of mind altering medications? What are ways of overcoming this fear? I've been extremely paranoid of taking most medication my whole life and even as a baby it was difficult to administer medication to me for some reason.
6801259 tn?1385008504 I use it as well and I especially used it for the number of years I was not on medication but obviously not OCD free. Psychologists cannot prescribe medication so they cannot put you on "crazy pills." CBT is the first place to start. You have to be committed to getting better by practicing the exercises. Ultimately OCD is a chemical imbalance in our brains...a neurotransmitter imbalance. Medication can help with that imbalance. Medication however does come with side effects.
Avatar m tn Trump destroys what the "the establishment" Republican Party is all about, so I'm ALL FOR HIM. This country has been trying the same thing, over & over & over, for the last 60-years... and look where it's gotten us, and WHO it's gotten us. Of course, none of you really like him, and that's okay. That's what makes this country mediocre...
Avatar m tn HIV is neither "dead" nor "alive". It is either active (when it is INSIDE the body), or INACTIVE (when it is outside of the body, exposed to the elements). Sexually speaking, only unprotected anal or vaginal sex is a risk for HIV. Exposure to genital secretions in any situation NOT during the above mentioned insertive sex without a condom is NOT a risk for HIV. That includes oral sex, mutual mastrubation, frottage (rubbing), etc. You have nothing to worry about.
696149 tn?1314320959 Well, I spoke of it a few days ago......that is getting off the Vicodin and I just took the last 4 I had. I am terrified of what I'm probably going to face. Usually when you fear something, the bark is worse than it's bite, but in this case, the bark is just as bad as the bite, if not worse. Still, all I have to do is get through 1 week.
Avatar f tn I also recommend speaking to your doctor but tingling sensations can be a symptom of anxiety. And sometimes starting new medication can cause a short term increase in anxiety. I had severe tingling in my arms from anxiety and had to get a CT scan to rule out a stroke. Amazingly, as soon as I found out my brain was okay, my tingling went away within a day or so. Continuing to worry about it can cause the symptoms to continue and even become worse.
766068 tn?1237587833 But it means stepping out of your comfort zone. It is far from easy. Facing up to the things you fear most of all. But I always suggest you do it bit by bit. Not a mad dash or anything like that. That can set you back if you fall flat on your face. You go that little bit further each time. Adapting to the feelings it brings with it. Getting comfortable with the feelings. And trust me it will hit you hard at first. Enough to make you want to run back home.
Avatar f tn My therapist understands this question, but may not have enough clinical training in this area. She was the one to suggest that he had a fear of being swallowed up by me, thus he preferred digital penetration. But when I try to probe deeper into the issue, she becomes defensive. I just had an idea. I recently started seeing a psychiatrist for medication, and she might or might not have some input into this issue. I am going to figure this out eventually.
1183666 tn?1274275146 So, JESSiCA, we meet again! I'm glad to hear you're involved with a partner and a project, but I do understand your fear of public speaking. I'm positive the vast majority of us would rather streak through Wal Mart than get up in front of a group of people. (Would anybody notice us in Wal Mart? Somehow I think we'd just "blend!") I suppose there are a number of things you could try before it was your turn to be on stage.
Avatar n tn Your daughter is 11 years old and takes medication for anxiety. But, anxiety medication is used to "take off the edge" of a person's fears so that proper therapy (as CBT - cognitive behavioural therapy) and/or intervention (as worry desensitization) methods work. These are the tools to help your daughter learn how to manage her fears/anxieties; the medication only supports or assists therapy/intervention.
Avatar f tn what type of medicine do you need to ATLEAST calm down the cramps because I'm having a breakdown
Avatar f tn Though the US has continued to make big gains in productivity over the last decade, nearly all of the benefit of those gains has gone to the wealthy, not the workers. American CEOs earned 411 times as much as average workers in 2005, up from 107 times in 1990. In the economic expansion of 2002-2006, the top 1% captured nearly three quarters of income growth. http://elsa.berkeley.edu/~saez/saez-USto pincomes-2006prel.
Avatar m tn Not sure if this will help, but I HAD the same problem..extreme fear of speaking in front of groups. Also, anxiety. I take 12.5 mg of Paxil for anxiety and that has helped. I talk in front of groups alot. If it is really bad, I take a small dose of Xanax, and that calms me. I never took ativan. Good luck. Oh, Xanax does not effect my speaking, it just calms me abit. I don't slur or look like an idiot.
Avatar f tn And your fear of it going through the flor and contaminating your bed. Not possible. You need to go ahead and realize that this is a serious issue if you are irrational and having a phobia. Do you see a psychologist? If not, please do. This is treatable. Exposure therapy is the best for this type of thing. ERP therapy is what it is called and it is the gold standard. Medication helps too. Are there other things you have irrational fear about?
Avatar m tn t be any fear to have a cath angioplasty. There is medication that will reduce any and all anxiety...the patient experiences nothing of any concern and almost always recovers within a day or so with no side effects. With cath, the cardiologist can do a stent implant during the procedure. With a CT scan, there is a possibility of stent implant cath procedure subsequently. If your wife has symptoms that can't be managed with medication, then the cath procedure would be appropriate.
7163794 tn?1457366813 Glad it went well, I have told my story a few times, very scary I do behind the walls at a work relies program, I have a big fear of speaking in meetings, last time I was asked to do it I said yes, chickened out and scheduled my neck surgery a week before to get out of it, I have 13 years, thank you for being strong and sharing that, it inspired me.
9941879 tn?1406844458 First thing is to stay positive and pray all is well. Start speaking life into your children's life and in your life. Stop thinking negative is the second step. Read proverbs 3:5-7 and put all your trust in the Lord, ask God to remove fear out your heart in Jesus name and cast down all negative thoughts.
Avatar f tn The last time we had sex, we took a small break to catch our breath and he took of the condom. When we started again, he hadn't put one back on. So for about the span of 30 seconds I didn't notice. As soon as I did, he put one back on. We had had the whole std talk prior to sex. He stated he was last tested in June and hadn't been with anyone since. I was tested in July (negative) after breaking up with a long term boyfriend. Anyways...
