Common Questions and Answers about Fear of public speaking phobia name

fear

Avatar f tn Fear of heights in all its forms is, I believe, the 2d most common phobia (the first is fear of speaking in public, officially, but I'm guessing more people confront heights than the need to speak in public so I'm guessing heights might be the most common fear). I have this phobia, but didn't have it until I got a full-blown anxiety disorder. If this is your only phobia, good; if you have several and are anxious about a lot of things, harder.
Avatar f tn You are both suffering from a very common phobia. Fear of the dark goes back to the dawn of man and since that time, millions of people have fought it all there lives. Please do not berate yourselves for this phobia or think you are silly for being afraid of the dark at your age. Our phobias are ours to own and suffer with as long as we do nothing about them. Since both of you have stated that your phobia is now interfering with your lives, it's time to take the bull by the horns!
Avatar m tn If you have a fear of heights, you might drive three hours out of your way to avoid crossing a tall bridge. Or if the prospect of public speaking leaves your stomach in knots, you might skip your best friend’s wedding in order to avoid giving a toast. Aside from the inconvenience factor, the problem with avoiding your fears is that you never have the chance to overcome them. In fact, avoiding your fears often makes them stronger.
Avatar n tn Almost all of us have fears of public speaking and the symptoms you mention are classic. I wet my knickers once, I was so scared! Does your job require that you do alot of this? If so, I would suggest you get into some therapy which will help you tremendously to deal with this phobia. Taking a hit of Klonopin just before you must present/perform will not help you at all.
Avatar f tn Public speaking is the most common phobia. You can try to deal with it either by seeking anxiety therapy or you can try a speechmaking class, like toastmasters, that might help you get used to and over this fear.
Avatar n tn a good dentist will not think you are silly in fact dental fears and public speaking are the two most common phobias just dont let it get in the way of taking care of your teeth.
Avatar m tn I tried not to do that, and it eventually leads to s strong urge to throw up, often spitting out mucus and saliva in toilet. Now I am afraid of public places, even visiting shopping malls or cinema is terrifying (unless I am near to toilet). Besides that, I feel that this throwing up issue has also somehow link itself to my fears. This means that when I am in the state of fear/anxiety (eg.
1183666 tn?1274275146 So, JESSiCA, we meet again! I'm glad to hear you're involved with a partner and a project, but I do understand your fear of public speaking. I'm positive the vast majority of us would rather streak through Wal Mart than get up in front of a group of people. (Would anybody notice us in Wal Mart? Somehow I think we'd just "blend!") I suppose there are a number of things you could try before it was your turn to be on stage.
Avatar f tn I first have to ask why someone with an "extreme HIV phobia" would work in a lab such as you do. I have an extreme fear of snakes and they couldn't pay me enough to work around the things. I also can't understand how someone in your position in not one of the most highly qualifed people to know how difficult it is to actually contrract HIV. You say that you always wear the correct protective gear while working with these specimens.
Avatar f tn ll have to actually talk in front of everybody, that is a fear just about ALL of us have. Public speaking is probably the #! phobia the world over, but I seriously doubt they are going to ask you to make an impromptu speech! A very quick "thank you" is probably the most you'll have to utter, and that just to the person handing you the award.
Avatar n tn while running to the washroom, I have developed a sever phobia of going anywhere for fear of losing bowel control. When I know I have to go anywhere for the day, I don't eat anything (and I mean ANYTHING) and take about 4 immodium pills. I still panic while out in public, because I'm scared I didn't empty out my bowels enough before I left, and I have a real problem with using public washrooms because of the embarrassment.
Avatar f tn s the only partner I have had unprotected sexual intercourse with in my life and never been a IV drug user or like getting shots at the doctors because of my anxiety. My fear of syringes is due to fear that I will become infected with one somehowe out of my control.
Avatar n tn My main objective is to give you some insight into your chronic phobia of the dark. The fear of the dark is a very valid phobia to begin with and could branch into many other more specific phobias, such as nyctophobia, the fear of the darkness and the main one I wish to talk to you about now. Nyctophobia is any fear of darkness and it does not have to be chronic. It is usually caused by a magnification of the brain's natural perception of what could happen in a dark environment.

Anyway, I was told that I would have to let one walk up my arm and feel there leg's on my skin. RIGHT.. I think I'll carry this fear to my grave.

Avatar m tn Hi, Do you understand that if HIV were spread in the manner that you describe it 1) would not be classified as a sexually transmitted disease and 2) EVERYONE would have caught it when jumped to the human species, and we would all be dead by now. Think about it. HIV has never been transmitted in an environmental setting.
Avatar f tn Here is how you get HIV, the ONLY way you'd get HIV: if you have unprotected penetrative vaginal or anal sex or sharing of drug needles. Hiv is inactivated by air and saliva. Every time you have a fear of HIV, remember that. It should alleviate the worry. If you didn't do these things, you aren't going to get HIV.
Avatar f tn m sorry you feel this way and have such great fear of snow. While it is reasonable to have fear of driving in snow---- perhaps you are talking about the level of your reaction? I know that I too do not like driving in snow. I live in an area where there is often ice beneath it and have had a few bad driving experiences. So . .. I get my groceries (like EVERYONE else, wow, our grocery is packed if there is bad weather in the forecast . . .
Avatar m tn I am a 34 year old man suffering from a terrible phobia of not being able to get to a toilet. I am worried that i am going to soil myself. When i am able to use the toilet i dont need to but when i am in a situation where i cant get to a toilet i become desperate and have a major panic attack. It physically feels like i am going to mess myself. This has been going on for 20 years now and i have seen child doctors and hypnotherapists.
Avatar f tn I think it came about as sort of a defense mechanism, as I was pushing myself to be more sociable i kind of developed depersonalization as a shield to anything at all bad that could happen when interacting with other people. I fear awkwardness, public speaking, etc. I am glad i pushed myself because I do love my friends even more now that I hang out with them outside of school ( never did before ). Is there anything I can do to make this depersonalization go away?
Avatar n tn For as long as I can remember (childhood), I have an intense fear of eating in social situations. Now I am not afraid of being around people, making friends, or speaking in front of people. In fact, I have very good self-esteem. I do not worry about the world, I do not have a fear of being judged. Its just that whenever I am going to eat in a social situation, friends, family, my girlfriend, I become nauseous, have stomach aches, and lose my appetite.
Avatar f tn Team, Goodday to all, today I my office, one customer just came to the back of my shoulder and touched me, but I felt pain like something pocked with needle. Suddenly I turned back I did not see any needle. If he has inserted needle in my shoulder, can I get infected by HIV virus. I heard hiv don’t survive outside.
Avatar m tn When i was little i used to be very confident not afraid of anything but now i think i some sort of nervous problem. When i am in school and i get asked a question or someone shouts my name my face goes bright red and my palms get all sweaty and i start to panic.
