Avatar f tn If not insubordination, the remarks in a forthcoming Rolling Stone magazine article were at least an indirect challenge to civilian management of the war in Washington by its top military commander. "I think it's clear that the article in which he and his team appeared showed a poor — showed poor judgment," the president said, surrounded by members of his Cabinet at the close of their meeting.
634733 tn?1316625992 I am so shocked the awful article on obesity and MS has been published in MS Matters the magazine published by the UK MS Society!! Giving credibility to another piece of reserach that has not been validated in any way, shape of form - I am just too annoyed and angry to say anymore. For those who have not read the article see this thread: http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Multiple-Sclerosis/Obesity-and-MS/show/1101437?
1183666 tn?1274275146 So, JESSiCA, we meet again! I'm glad to hear you're involved with a partner and a project, but I do understand your fear of public speaking. I'm positive the vast majority of us would rather streak through Wal Mart than get up in front of a group of people. (Would anybody notice us in Wal Mart? Somehow I think we'd just "blend!") I suppose there are a number of things you could try before it was your turn to be on stage.
Avatar m tn This is a left wing article the Lancet is not a trash magazine ..I do agree that this should have been brought to the attention by media sooner, MSNBC and the other shows mentioned are left wing , MSNBC reports no real news happening in the US and is almost a State run media source .we should be glad that at least now we know the truth and many will have their children vaccinated .
Avatar f tn Oh, wait, I see you read a magazine article. You do know how magazines sell themselves, right? They go for the most extreme story, and even then it's always hard to make a connection between a death and the true cause. But I'm sure the magazine wasn't talking about vanilla panic attacks (and no, I'm not going to read the article -- lived too long, seen too many articles to get riled up by one at this point).
272338 tn?1252280404 Not one place in the magazine did I see even one mention of Ovarian cancer. Come on! This is a womens magazine with a large section devoted to womens health. So I sat down and sent an e-mail to the editor explaining that I would not be renewing my subscription and why. Though small, it is still a step. I ask that all of you that recieve womens magazines take a close look at the Sept issue and if there is no mention of ovarian cancer, take that one small step.
Avatar f tn The answer is "probably not", especially if there is extensive muscle atrophy. There are some experimental treatments to regenerate muscle that has been wasted in the U.S. Veteran's administration using injections of "small intestine pig mucosa" that have met with good success. It was discovered in 1989 this substance could cause regrowth of muscle. Do a google search on "Discover" magazine, which had a lengthy article on this experimental treatment.
405614 tn?1329144114 I found a great article in AARP magazine (my roommate gets it) about mistakes doctors make, why they make them, and how to help yourself avoid these mistakes. All of us in limboland should be able to relate, and feel a little good that there is such an article in a national magazine. I hope you'll take the time to read it, and enjoy it as much as I did! http://www.aarpmagazine.org/health/why_doctors_make_mistakes.
Avatar m tn As BeeFree stated, it is very normal to feel anxious when we have to speak in front of a group of strangers. I'm sure that most people feel anxiety to some extent when put in that position. There are self-help books available that will teach you many tips and tricks to deal with this anxiety. If possible, take a Public Speaking class.........I did and it was the best thing I'd done for myself at that time.
381606 tn?1242090749 Has anyone seen/read the article in W Magazine this month on unexplained infertility? I thought it was pretty good and was wondering if anyone has tried any of the "simple" things that the story talked about (e.g. baking soda ******? cough medicine?). Also, has anyone had their cervical mucus tested? I don't think I have and am wondering if my "unexplained" infertility might just be something that easy to fix. Thanks!
Avatar f tn html I am very disappointed in Rolling Stone. Regardless of how well written the article may be, posting a picture of this handsome young man on the cover is glamorizing him. It is not that I think he needs to be demonized (his actions already did that) but he is in danger of becoming a hero with the alienated people in our society. Already he has hordes of young women organizing support for his defense. Shame on Rolling Stone.
Avatar f tn many people have a fear of public speaking. And remember anxiety and panic can come at the most inoppertune times even if we have previously been through the exact same experience panic free time after time. I also agree that you should not expect perfection and not be too hard on yourself. Just the fact that you get up there is something that you should give yourself credit for; that is no easy feat to accomplish in my opinion. Do you have other social situations that you get anxious in?
Avatar f tn Perhaps an editorial on this type of infection might serve as a sort of companion piece to such an article as the Times posted. In this case we would have the heroic sort, a patriot who enlisted to serve their country, who became infected and who ultimately became neglected. For years the VA has resisted taking responsibility for the infections caused by airgun injections. It was easier to suggest that vets had gotten the infection through some other source.
Avatar f tn Has anyone read the article in last month's issue of FIRST magazine about chronic sinus inflamation? They are suggesting to put a capsaicin extract in your nasal rinse for better results - I am wondering if anyone has tried it? I am going to take the article to my Allergist this week and see what he says. Any thoughts?
295767 tn?1240188314 Hello you all. I wanted to write a quick post first of all to tell you there is a great local magazine published here in Boulder called, Women's Magazine which is distributed to all businesses and subscribing households. I was featured as the cover story for the November issue! The story focuses on my cancer diagnosis, my carepage site, how I have handled the diagnosis, and why I am an inspiration. I would love for you all to check it out, especially since you can read it online!

1763947 tn?1334055319 There is a great article in the New Yorker called ANNALS OF MEDICINE THE LYME WARS. If you google it, the link comes up.
Avatar m tn Norco I use to love Public speaking because it scared the **** out of me, gave me that fear buzz, loved being afraid ( weird ) Then with Mr Norco no fear whatsoever, wasn't as much fun. Now I'm just unsure and uncomfortable, no self confidence. This time the fear is not fun. I guess I'm just a Day 18 recovering addict, asking for help once again.... Don't think I'll put the pills in my pocket tonight.. But then again I might still need that out....
Avatar f tn If your problem is you are "too" shy when dealing with one or more people, I suggest is isn't a drug that you need. Rather you need help in facing this shyness and beating it down. This can/must be started in small steps. Pick something simple, like one situation that doesn't involve lots of people like public speaking, and condition yourself to deal with it. A good one would be talking with one other person who makes you nervous or otherwise troubled.
Avatar f tn You are both suffering from a very common phobia. Fear of the dark goes back to the dawn of man and since that time, millions of people have fought it all there lives. Please do not berate yourselves for this phobia or think you are silly for being afraid of the dark at your age. Our phobias are ours to own and suffer with as long as we do nothing about them. Since both of you have stated that your phobia is now interfering with your lives, it's time to take the bull by the horns!
Avatar m tn It is concerned with one of the most problematic risk groups, which has been hardly ever mentioned for fear of accusations of chauvinism and humiliation based on gender. Speaking from my firsthand experience, one of the most intractable detached psychological injuries is female alcoholism. Denial of this problem is as good as burying our heads in the sand like ostriches. For a woman it is embarrassing and difficult to accept this diagnosis, even in everyday life.
Avatar f tn d probably start by seeing a therapist or other professional who specializes in treating this problem, or maybe taking a public speaking course and practicing until you lose your fear of it. Or learning some CBT type techniques of relaxation and demystifying the situation. There are herbs and other amino acids, such as taurine, that can also be helpful, though any relaxation supplement or medication can cause sedation.
Avatar f tn Fear of heights in all its forms is, I believe, the 2d most common phobia (the first is fear of speaking in public, officially, but I'm guessing more people confront heights than the need to speak in public so I'm guessing heights might be the most common fear). I have this phobia, but didn't have it until I got a full-blown anxiety disorder. If this is your only phobia, good; if you have several and are anxious about a lot of things, harder.
Avatar f tn I recently tried taking iodine because I've read that close to 100% of fibro & CFS patients have a low thyroid, but the standard blood tests often miss it. Anyway, I cannot believe the difference !! My hair and skin are softer, I have a little bit more energy and less weakness. I noticed First magazine has an article in this month's issue on iodine deficiency. Of course an underactive thyroid can be due to insufficient amounts of iodine in the body.
