Avatar n tn I highly recommend the follwing resources to help you over-come this fear of driving. In my opinion they are priceless and well worth the money. If you can afford them, I would order them today so you can get your recovery on the road. Avatar m tn I'm just curious how many drive with CM? Or how many retain driving privledges even though perhaps they don't use them often due to not feeling safe to drive. Personally, even though I feel much better than pre-op there are many times I refuse to drive... probably 80-85% of the time. Curiosity due to finding this URL gov.
1154065 tn?1262184706 The most potent of my anxiety triggers is certainly being in a car, most often that is not being driven by myself. Meaning I just stepped out of a car with a friend of mine who drives a little wild and the entire 25 minute ride home, I was convinced I was dying, up until I type this post.
Avatar f tn Whatever it is - it has to be better than dealing with this irrational fear after each and every time you drive. Please feel free to ask more questions. This community will look forward to hearing more from you! I wish you the very best.
Avatar f tn Hiya well, personally i would say if you have such a fear at the moment of HIV/STD's etc.. then you really need to sit and think about what actions while performing love making really trigger the anxiety.
1785438 tn?1314987935 re developing Agoraphobia which will hold you prisoner in your home (safe place). Driving is a big trigger for many with panic attacks it goes along with Agoraphobia, fear of open places and fear you'll have a panic attack, the feeling of being "trapped" wherever you are. None of us want to be on medication but often anxiety is like any other medical condition that requires daily medication to control the symptoms.
1074864 tn?1256932915 You are not actually fearful of driving or travelling itself, but rather the fear of losing control if you have another panic attack. This is because when we have a panic attack, the first thing we want to do is to retreat to our "safe place", which for most people is our home. The further away from our comfort zone, the more uncomfortable we feel.
Avatar n tn As well I had experienced anxiety with driving over a period of time. I brought this to the attention of my therapist seeking an explanation for the anxiety. We talked about the anxiety and he suggested some relaxation via a very simple tape which he had created. He described to the patient how to relax, that is, relaxing one body part at a time.(shoulder, arm, leg). I listened to this tape over time (as required) and much of the anxiety has left me.
Avatar f tn t a fact and was able to deal with it. I also hyperventilated so read that if you have ice water with you, drinking it of course, you can't hyperventilated. The Community Leader who is normally here is on vacation. I hope others will stop by to help with suggestions though keep in mind this is a holiday weekend so will be slow. Have you seen a doctor? They could help you tremendously.
Avatar n tn I too struggle with panic attacks and the fear of them returning. Have you talked to your dr about this? You might want to consider talking with a therapist. I do know that if you let the fear take over your mind it is only going to get worse. The best advice I can give you is to talk to someone and try to face the fear. Get back in your car and go for a drive even if it is only around the block. Each time you do it it will get easier. You have to take your control back.
Avatar f tn New pathways need to be created to overcome the old programming. So for example, if you panic over a fear of flying, you must start flying and let the brain realise that its all okay, and reprogram the thoughts. However, the fear of dying can't really be practiced. Some buddhists meditate in a morgue as it is the closest we can get to dying. Once we understand that dying is just for the body and the spirit moves back to the energy (the light) we are no longer afraid of dying.
Avatar m tn If you are dealing with anxiety, I think it would be very beneficial for you to talk things over with a therapist. Those of us with anxiety will often latch onto a fear and we are pros at blowing things out of proportion. You're gonna be OK, OK?
1804812 tn?1329677557 Boy, can I relate!! MANY of us can! This goes hand in hand with panic. " I am known as the "back roads" queen because I can get to just about anywhere on small streets and county roads. I always feel like I need to have a place I can pull over". Me too! LOL. I HATE highways. I explored this fear with my therapist years ago, and she explained to me that the fear stems from our basic fear of becoming "trapped" somewhere, with no option of "escape".
8377023 tn?1399509160 My biggest fear out of everything is my water breaking while driving their car. I am absolutely terrified that this is going to happen. I have already gotten contractions while driving with one of the twins, thankfully the contractions weren't crazy bad, and this happened today. I dont know what to do besides calling their aunt, Chris, my mom and my doctor. Like what should I tell their aunt if that happens? To just meet me at the hospital or what?

Avatar m tn Some people with panic and anxiety disorder have a fear of driving on highways. It is more common than you would think. Do you notice any significant amount of anxiety off the road, or is it only when you are driving? I would see your doctor.

Avatar f tn Hello it has started a few months ago, I had often little pimples around my lips that I took for cold sores and I was afraid to spread it to another parts of my body with bodily fluids like saliva, bogey or tears, so I washed my hands all the time, I was paranoid about it but I could still get out. I was just little afraid of touching objects from outside. Finally I have take a blood test and it was negative.
Avatar f tn m becoming housebound because of my fear of driving. I just got on my husbands insurance and am thinking of going to the doctor. Though, I'm afraid it's not anxiety and it will not be diagnosed easily. I just want this to be over. I want to be normal!
Avatar f tn I googled way too many symptoms on schizophrenia, and now I am obsessing over the fear of getting it. My therapist and psychiatrist said I dont, but what if I do get it!? I have no symptoms but I am just so afraid. My OCD is so bad now about it. Anyone else go through this?

Avatar f tn need I say more? The fear of being stuck in traffic and suddenly needing to go is a real fear based on a real problem. Generally I prepare for trips, and if shopping, make it a focused shop. No more aimless driving. I have to have a plan and stick to it. Same in stores: meandering around in a hugh store is sure to bring on panic. So again I now plan and stick to it. One department for shoes. No checking out several stores or departments.
Avatar m tn I'm trying to find out if anyone has had a similar situation to mine and how they've dealt with it. For the past month I've had anxiety about driving on the interstate, especially when I think I might get stuck in traffic. It started when I had some stomach bug which caused me to get extremely nauseous when I was driving and I had to pull over ASAP and find a place to vomit or use the bathroom.
