Avatar m tn I'm trying to find out if anyone has had a similar situation to mine and how they've dealt with it. For the past month I've had anxiety about driving on the interstate, especially when I think I might get stuck in traffic. It started when I had some stomach bug which caused me to get extremely nauseous when I was driving and I had to pull over ASAP and find a place to vomit or use the bathroom.
Avatar n tn I know what you are going through! I have battled anxiety of driving on the interstate for about 4 years. It all started when I had my very first Panic Attack while driving alone on the interstate. I thought I was having a heart attack and was going to die alone at the age of 28 yrs old with a yound wife and a 6 month old daughter. It was terrifying! I am almost over the driving fear, but it has been a long a process. I have good days and bad days.
Avatar m tn Some people with panic and anxiety disorder have a fear of driving on highways. It is more common than you would think. Do you notice any significant amount of anxiety off the road, or is it only when you are driving? I would see your doctor.
1448936 tn?1363206346 But having to drive 4 hours on the interstate on tues and wed caused me a lot of anxiety and I was scared of getting a panic attack while driving so I took them then. That's pretty much what threw my week off and caused me to take more than usual.
909822 tn?1242700047 The best way to describe it to people is that when I am driving on the highway I get a strange and trippy feeling like I am driving forward but everyone around me is going backwards or that I am stopped...its a very strange feeling which causes me anxiety and my palms sweat, heart races and i usually have to pull over. This is taking over my life! and I can no longer drive on the highway which causes alot of issues living in chicago. I am wondering is this an anxiety attach??
Avatar m tn Here are my symptoms for that started over a year ago 1. I get like this feeling like im going to pass out / lightheaded / vision is weird (light sensitivity).
Avatar n tn I am 55 years old and had great vision and wore no lenses of any sort until about 2 years ago. I have developed presbyopia and was diagnosed with a bit of astigmatism in my right eye then. For most of the 2 years, I had glasses, which I seldom wore. I got by with the cheap reading glasses from the pharmacy and seldom wore my prescription glasses, since they would only stay clean for what seemed like a few milliseconds.
3176864 tn?1391555073 Fear in and of itself is one of the reasons I self medicated for so damn long. Fear of WD, Fear of being sober, Fear of dealing with problems sober, Fear of never being able to be high from a substance again, Fear of the addict label. The list goes on.
Avatar f tn I live in Alabama and its a lot of dirt rough roads here ... It is very uncomfortable to me too coming up my dirt driveway... I don't like driving anymore since I've been pregnant I feel like everyone is trying to hit me. I had someone pull out Infront of me today and I was pissed ... Avatar m tn it has really picked up in the past year due to coming across sued needles on the ground. I seem to come across most of them on the roads while driving. but every time I see one, my anxiety sky rockets. I have a fear of even driving by a used needle and thinking it could be contaminated with hepatitis b or c. its as though I fear blood from the needle will get on my car or tires and then on to me. really cant comprehend how to deal with this.
Avatar n tn I am a college professor and was in class two of the times, and driving home on the Interstate the last time. It seemed the room was spinning. Thought I was going to pass out, but held on to desk. Then, on Interstate, could ardly stay in my lane. Expected to crash as couldn't stay in lane and tried to exit. I did and pulled off, and like the two previous times, it only lasted 1 minute max. Then, I was OK. The first time, thought it was because needed food (had eaten 5 hrs.
1451789 tn?1285014503 I live my life in fear of these things. Even thinking about them makes me dizzy. I got one while driving on the interstate once. It was so terrible. I almost crashed my car. I can go in to more detail, but someone, PLEASE someone must know what these things are?? I am healthy and in shape. I have no diseases etc. Thankyou.
1074864 tn?1256932915 You are not actually fearful of driving or travelling itself, but rather the fear of losing control if you have another panic attack. This is because when we have a panic attack, the first thing we want to do is to retreat to our "safe place", which for most people is our home. The further away from our comfort zone, the more uncomfortable we feel.
Avatar m tn My short-term memory is not as sharp as it used to be. Also, my short-term memory's not as sharp as it used to be. I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other. In Memorium With all the sadness and trauma going on in the world at the moment, it is worth reflecting on the death of a very important person, which almost went unnoticed last week. Larry LaPrise, the man who wrote "The Hokey Pokey", died peacefully at age 93.
Avatar f tn Thankfully it seems as though his latest trial meds have been working great for him. Anyway, I was driving us home on the interstate after picking him up from work when out of nowhere I had a contraction. I could barely breathe through it let alone talk my hubby had to lean over to take the wheel and we managed to stop in the shoulder. All this in 2 mins time... which was how long the contraction was.
Avatar n tn I too struggle with panic attacks and the fear of them returning. Have you talked to your dr about this? You might want to consider talking with a therapist. I do know that if you let the fear take over your mind it is only going to get worse. The best advice I can give you is to talk to someone and try to face the fear. Get back in your car and go for a drive even if it is only around the block. Each time you do it it will get easier. You have to take your control back.
Avatar n tn My doctor says that another surgery may possibly relieve up to 70% of the pain, but that the mobility of my neck will be reduced greatly. (At times I have problems even driving due to my inability to turn my head very far) I am in my mid-50s and otherwise healthy. As much as I want the pain to go away, I fear the lack of mobility. Has anyone had more than 2 levels repaired and it so, how is your pain versus mobility?
Avatar f tn We were riding down the interstate after the last dr appt. Hubby was driving and I had the window down. Just as my hubby got over to let a car merge on (which put their window beside mine) I got a hard kick in the ribs. It hurt so bad I screamed a little. (I called it a yelp, they said scream) Well the car beside me turned out to be a cop. Who gave us some very hard looks before driving on.

8377023 tn?1399509160 My biggest fear out of everything is my water breaking while driving their car. I am absolutely terrified that this is going to happen. I have already gotten contractions while driving with one of the twins, thankfully the contractions weren't crazy bad, and this happened today. I dont know what to do besides calling their aunt, Chris, my mom and my doctor. Like what should I tell their aunt if that happens? To just meet me at the hospital or what?
1785438 tn?1314987935 Hi. Unfortunately this all evolves around your anxiety and you're developing Agoraphobia which will hold you prisoner in your home (safe place). Driving is a big trigger for many with panic attacks it goes along with Agoraphobia, fear of open places and fear you'll have a panic attack, the feeling of being "trapped" wherever you are.
Avatar f tn I only got sick a handful of times with my daughter - once while driving down the interstate on my way to work - most horrible thing ever. Hopefully not something you'll have.

1804812 tn?1329677557 I am on day 6 of prozac and it seems that my driving anxiety is lower lately (knock on wood). My overall anxiety is a little elevated right now because I have some sinus crud going on and I automatically think it is cancer. Uggh!
3159640 tn?1430907300 Hello all, Yesterday I grabbed a big handful of napkins out of a dispenser and had to stick my hand in a bit to get them out. I felt a sensation on my hand, it may have been one of my nails hitting my hand, but of course I thought "hiv infected needle poke". I lifted up the napkins (a ritual compulsion I know!) and saw what I thought was a line of white napkin dust, but in my mind it could have been a syringe. I did not study it excessively and then I left.
