Avatar n tn I have fear from having panic attack. that's why i don't drive my car and my car. what should i do ? I'm 36 years old mother of 2 children. Kuwait 21.6.
Avatar f tn Hi Pepper, driving is dangerous and your fear is normal. Being in a car is not an extension of our own bodies and also, as you mention, there are the other cars around you that you cant control. Ive been driving for 40 years without an accident. This is due to being active and proactive. When i am driving, i also watch out for the other cars and project there movements. I used to drive a taxi so my experience is a bit better than the average person.
Avatar m tn I have a huge fear of driving and being a passenger in the car! It started out of the blue about a year and a hald ago! Nothing happened to bring it on it just happened! Its awful as I drive 60 miles every day for work! I have panic attacks along with it some days and have to pull over! My psychiatrist put me on Ativan that I take before driving to and from work or when I am getting into someone elses car and it seems to help al ittle bit. I am also on Effexor....
1804812 tn?1329677557 Boy, can I relate!! MANY of us can! This goes hand in hand with panic. " I am known as the "back roads" queen because I can get to just about anywhere on small streets and county roads. I always feel like I need to have a place I can pull over". Me too! LOL. I HATE highways. I explored this fear with my therapist years ago, and she explained to me that the fear stems from our basic fear of becoming "trapped" somewhere, with no option of "escape".
Avatar f tn I have been having a lot of issues lately and I have all the sudden developed a crazy fear of driving. I am scared when I drive but I am rediculous when I am the passenger. I literally scream and **** my eyes and put my hands in front I my face. I don't know why this is happening. I have not had any bad experiences in a car. It just seems like more and more bad things are happening with me now :/ I do not even feel like a regular person anymore.
Avatar f tn need I say more? The fear of being stuck in traffic and suddenly needing to go is a real fear based on a real problem. Generally I prepare for trips, and if shopping, make it a focused shop. No more aimless driving. I have to have a plan and stick to it. Same in stores: meandering around in a hugh store is sure to bring on panic. So again I now plan and stick to it. One department for shoes. No checking out several stores or departments.
8377023 tn?1399509160 My biggest fear out of everything is my water breaking while driving their car. I am absolutely terrified that this is going to happen. I have already gotten contractions while driving with one of the twins, thankfully the contractions weren't crazy bad, and this happened today. I dont know what to do besides calling their aunt, Chris, my mom and my doctor. Like what should I tell their aunt if that happens? To just meet me at the hospital or what?
Avatar n tn Hi HamiltonM, I posted a comment about 6 years ago about fear of driving in curves. Especially curves ciming downhill. I feel my car will tilt over. I noted your comment about similar symptoms. I haven't been in this chat room since then...anyway I wanted to know if anything helped your situation?
Avatar n tn If so, then it is truly anxiety caused from the lightheadedness episode and your fear of feeling that way again. As you get anxious, the release of adrenaline causes your pupils to dialate so everything gets bright, out of focus, also, you are focusing more and getting more anxious so your nerves in your eyes are strained, causing more focus issues.
637356 tn?1301924822 I also believe whether or not they took drivers education they should still have to take the driving portion of the test. But I would also like to see something done about others that shouldn't be driving as well.
Avatar m tn I think I overcame my fear of the dr. At least my new Dr. She was amazing. Never had a dr as nice and gentle as her.
Avatar n tn We drove close to it without stopping and drove near the swarm of flies that were buzzing around it. The windows of the car were closed. We then continued driving for 10 more minutes until we reached the house. I got out of the car and the first thing that happened was that a fly out of nowhere flew into my eye. As you could imagine I panicked, went and washed my eye with water then tried not to think about it. Is it possible that: A.
Avatar f tn Ok, this might sound crazy but I recently got into a car accident two months ago, the lady hit me and my girlfriend from the side of our car and we went sliding across the street. Luckily there werent any cars coming and I thank god my girlfriend is more than okay! But since then I've been scared of driving, I always feel like im going to run someone over or hit someones car I don't even know why I have the fear of running someone over!
Avatar n tn I have son who just turned 5. He had/has sort of the same fear. He's always hated to have the window down in the car while driving and if it starts looking like a storm or the wind picks up while outside he starts getting anxious. He wants ALL his toys from outside picked up and put in the garage right away. He has no fear of fans though. I'm just a Mom, but I would say, wait it out. She is still very young. At that age it is hard to talk to her about fears and explain wind.
Avatar m tn but every time I see one, my anxiety sky rockets. I have a fear of even driving by a used needle and thinking it could be contaminated with hepatitis b or c. its as though I fear blood from the needle will get on my car or tires and then on to me. really cant comprehend how to deal with this.
510814 tn?1213264975 Thank you to all who responded. I hope to get over my fear of driving. I can handle driving around the corner by myself to the store or gas station, but I have a hard time thinking I can just get in the car and go! It's not just that, either....I had a panic attack the day we bought a new car and I was in the passenger seat while my husband was driving. So, being in a car in general scares me.
394991 tn?1214255907 s not like I feel completely normal while driving, but fear that I will all of a sudden have a panic attack. I have no fear of this; these weird feelings are already and always there. I also HAVE tried densitization--baby steps. Sitting in the car, pulling out of the garage, driving around the subdivision. This did not work. I appreciate your trying to help though.
Avatar m tn did you ever have an accident or a near accident experience in your childhood? seems like you have some fears or concerns about driving, roads or traffic that need to be addressed. my anxiety trigger is fear of diseases and especially std's. my stupid a&& big sister told me about HIV when i was 8 and made it seem like its the deadliest disease ever, with no cure (which is actually true). i remember not being able to sleep for weeks after hearing about it.
Avatar m tn I also had an fear of driving, I was so afraid I would have an anxiety attack while I was driving that I was petrified to drive. I was a regular commuter for many many years, and hour or more each way to and from work. This fear hit me all of the sudden one day, I had my first anxiety attack at work, and it was such a horrible feeling, that I was afraid I would have another one anywhere I was, in the car, at a store, at a party, anywhere......
1353681 tn?1387083733 i know that people are for the most part fine drivers, its just this feeling that still comes over me of myself going out of control (motion from car if I'm not driving) ...I know that it rreallly is just the way i'm perceiving being in the passenger seat, and that everything should be and will be fine...but that of course doesn not HELP me when i begin to be in the seat..
1785438 tn?1314987935 Hi. Unfortunately this all evolves around your anxiety and you're developing Agoraphobia which will hold you prisoner in your home (safe place). Driving is a big trigger for many with panic attacks it goes along with Agoraphobia, fear of open places and fear you'll have a panic attack, the feeling of being "trapped" wherever you are.
Avatar f tn My doctor said ok short distance driving after 3 weeks, but main concern was if I could slam on the brakes and control car if necessary. 3 weeks post-op but still too scared to try driving. Luckily my MIL is here to drive me around!
Avatar f tn , cups, paper, sticks, trash, etc, but I have fear of it being a needle. The funny thing is, most of the time, I never review the photos; I guess just knowing I have them brings me relief. Before, I was even using a picker to pick things up off the ground, which I would store in the trunk of my car; however, I've pretty much gotten past that. It has come to the point that my condition is impacting my relationship.
Avatar n tn if car is new, either the "new car smellthat trigges the allergy or if car is old , the mold particles from the heating ducts are doing the same
Avatar n tn We went out with one of our friends in their car. They have 2 children (aged 7 and 5). When we entered the car my daughter was so excited...but few mins later she started crying badly to go back home...nothing was sooting her that time..not even her father was able to control her. still we continued for the beach area..after we got down from the car she became calm and stated playing with the kids (running and racing)...again after 15 mins we got in the car to go back home and she was the same.
