Avatar f tn the fear of being alone and having a panic attack, it is essentially the fear of fear. Through the years I have learned to cope better with being alone and panic. Comedy, anything that makes me laugh I will watch when I start feeling all nervous inside. It always helps to stop that feeling. Self talking...I always tell myself out loud "Stop it you are fine this will pass" and I try to find something to do.
1074864 tn?1256932915 You are not actually fearful of driving or travelling itself, but rather the fear of losing control if you have another panic attack. This is because when we have a panic attack, the first thing we want to do is to retreat to our "safe place", which for most people is our home. The further away from our comfort zone, the more uncomfortable we feel.

Avatar f tn It not just driving any more it's being alone, always need someone to be with me...Feeling sad for no reason..heart racing, pain in left arm and shoulders tension and the list goes on..just want to feel better!!
1709162 tn?1314084832 I have a fear of being alone too. I try very hard to avoid being home alone..drive alone..go to the store alone etc. Where I live we have a free crisis hotline that has operators 24 hours a day. You can call them for anythig mental health related. When I'm alone and panicking and it gets really bad, I call them and it helps me feel not so alone. You could try finding out if the area you live in has a similar program.
Avatar f tn t you get a dashboard camera (you could probably use your smartphone if it has enough memory). Record yourself driving. When you feel this fear, check the video and you will see that you have not hot anyone. At first, try driving for a short distance and then check the video. Then try driving a longer distance. You will be doing some self-exposure therapy and will have solid evidence that nothing bad has happened. Hang in there!

Avatar f tn I have never really even attempted to ask a guy out because of the fear of rejection. Someone please assure me that it will happen one day. I guess this topic is just one of those things where I just need to be reassured. Thanks to anyone who answers! Everybody on this site is just truly amazing and inspirational.
Avatar n tn i would suggest seeing a therapist if possible because they will have some good ideas about dealing with i, and maybe get to the root of the problem of whats causing it. other suggests you could try on your own is, knowing that the fear/feeling of being alone will pass and although its a deep feeling, it is just that a feeling. also try distraction, and reward if you manage on your own for a period of time.
Avatar f tn I haven't always had a fear of snow or ice driving until the recent past few years. If I am not in the driver's seat, I can't control the anxiety. If I am in the driver's seat, it's much, much worse. My panic starts the minute we start moving.
4221726 tn?1351269799 How do you get over your axiety of being alone? I have seen several thereapists, and been on different medications, but nothing has helped, need help.
Avatar f tn Im sorta the same i hate doing things alone. Like u i think its from my mom always doing everything for me. But i learned that u gotta do what ya gotta do. There still alot i won't do unless i really have to. Like i hate going to appointments, shopping, driving, and everything else alone but wen hubby or my bro ain't available i got to. Also i think the fear of failing at any lil thing bothers me it ***** but i just can't help it.
Avatar n tn I too struggle with panic attacks and the fear of them returning. Have you talked to your dr about this? You might want to consider talking with a therapist. I do know that if you let the fear take over your mind it is only going to get worse. The best advice I can give you is to talk to someone and try to face the fear. Get back in your car and go for a drive even if it is only around the block. Each time you do it it will get easier. You have to take your control back.
1804812 tn?1329677557 Boy, can I relate!! MANY of us can! This goes hand in hand with panic. " I am known as the "back roads" queen because I can get to just about anywhere on small streets and county roads. I always feel like I need to have a place I can pull over". Me too! LOL. I HATE highways. I explored this fear with my therapist years ago, and she explained to me that the fear stems from our basic fear of becoming "trapped" somewhere, with no option of "escape".
Avatar f tn re afraid of, or just scared of being alone? Your children need you to protect them in every way, and they can sense fear. Let them be your driving force to push past this. If you can't do this, I would seek help with therapy so you can enjoy your alone time with the kids. I agree that the best thing you can do is keep your mind occupied, and with kids there is always something you can do with them to do this. I know it's hard.
Avatar f tn m becoming housebound because of my fear of driving. I just got on my husbands insurance and am thinking of going to the doctor. Though, I'm afraid it's not anxiety and it will not be diagnosed easily. I just want this to be over. I want to be normal!
Avatar f tn All day I've felt so alone ! My kids started school today and as soon as they did home work they went outside to play. My husband doesn't get off for another hour, but when he called to see how I felt I just broke down in tears... Is this normal during pregnancy.
Avatar f tn Wow this forum is really helping me, it's shocking to hear so many similar stories and experiences, When I was young I had a permit to drive with a licensed driver, I lost control of a vehicle when I hesitated in an intersection in the poring rain I slammed on the breaks in fear of not making a yellow light, I didn't cause an accident and nobody got hurt but I ended up across the street very close to a gas station pump which has scared me deeply, I was 18 and have not driven since
Avatar n tn Hi. This sounds like an unfounded fear you have developed and I too, feel therapy would help you a lot. Were you in a car accident of this nature in the past, this would cause your fear? Anxiety causes most of us to develop fears like this, some have a root cause and others don't. Therapy will help you determine why you have this fear, and how to get over it. If therapy doesn't help (I think it will) there are medications to ease your fear.
2048563 tn?1330262534 What about having a TV, sound machine or music in your room? Those things could help take your mind off of the fear and help you sleep. If these things don't help ask your mom about taking you to a counselor to learn how to cope with your fears.
637722 tn?1245086059 I can drive in most situations now but it seems, as I get older the fear of winter driving gets worse. I know why I feel the way I do; it is the fear of ‘being out of control’. When I know there is something between my tires and the road that can cause me to slide I get the ‘panicky’ feeling. I have been in counseling for depression (because my son was addicted to heroin) and the subject of driving in the snow/ice was addressed but not to the point that I am over it.
Avatar m tn i was driving confidently for the last 8 years. suddenly start to fear driving especially curves...now i could not take the vehicle in the middle of the road..i try to avoid and automatically i drive on left side of the road instead of straight...so i loose balance..i am sittiting also slightly towards left...this problem is giving me sleepless night...please advise me..........
8377023 tn?1399509160 My biggest fear out of everything is my water breaking while driving their car. I am absolutely terrified that this is going to happen. I have already gotten contractions while driving with one of the twins, thankfully the contractions weren't crazy bad, and this happened today. I dont know what to do besides calling their aunt, Chris, my mom and my doctor. Like what should I tell their aunt if that happens? To just meet me at the hospital or what?
