Avatar f tn Glucose is sugar. They're testing how your body digests sugar during pregnancy.
Avatar m tn d guess, but one thing I did a few months ago was test my fasting glucose maybe an hour before going to have blood drawn for professional lab testing for complete profile. I was getting mid 80s at home, but my glucose came back 106 from the lab.
Avatar n tn Twenty years ago a clip-on device was invented for the earlobe. It emitted light and provided a glucose reading. The FDA, in it's wisdom, denied the manufacturing permit because of innacuracies. Well - the inaccuracies were not that bad. And it eliminated the issue of the millions of diabetics who don't take glucose sticks because of needle shyness. They have an implanable device advertised in the diabetic newsletters. Otherwise use thin needles and an "automatic sticker".
Avatar n tn Once you have obtained the knowledge of what foods you can eat and not eat, your testing will decline to an as needed basis.

Avatar f tn As with fasting or random blood glucose tests, a markedly abnormal oral glucose tolerance test is diagnostic of diabetes. However, blood glucose measurements during the oral glucose tolerance test can vary somewhat. For this reason, if the test shows that you have mildly elevated blood glucose levels, the doctor may run the test again to make sure the diagnosis is correct.
341551 tn?1266980730 Morning ladies! I was supposed to have my Glucose Testing weeks ago but since I've been in the moving process for the past 8 weeks I just got in to see my new Doctor last week and he scheduled my Glucose Testing for today. He said usually its done around your 27th week but better late than never. My question is, he didn't really say what I needed to do as far as prep. Am I supposed to not eat or drink hours before? Or is there a certain amount I'm supposed to drink before hand?
709686 tn?1277432159 re concerned about your blood glucose levels, you can purchase a glucose monitor pretty cheaply at drug stores. I got one a few years ago for $10 at CVS. They usually come with 10 test strips and 10 lancets and instructions, which should be plenty to check your blood sugar throughout a couple of days. Extra test strips can be pricy. If you go this route, most recommend checking your blood sugar first thing in the morning (fasting) and 2 hours after meals.
11165184 tn?1429569382 Hello, I have my first prenatal appointment coming up on Tuesday and I am extremely nervous about the blood tests they do. I have always had a huge fear of needles (I've done 2 unmedicated home births). I am going with a doctor this time as I do not have $3000 to drop on another home birth. Has anyone opted out of all blood work including the initial testing at the first appt? I'm wondering if doctors allow you to.
Avatar f tn They of drew blood once on me, they got 2 tube though. It's just scary :/ I'm praying it's not gestational diabetes. They haven't called me or anything to know when to go do the 3 hour one so I'm just waiting .. agh !
Avatar f tn I had mine yesterday I had my blood taken then had to drink a whole bottle of original lucozade sit down for 2 hours then have my bloods taken again now I'm waiting on my results
Avatar m tn Today is my first day of testing blood glucose. My diagnosed level is 180. I tested before breakfast at 143, 2 hours after breakfast I tested at 251, 2 hours later after excersize I tested at 086. Are these types of spikes something that is normal? I really don't understand yet what to expect. Thanks in advance.
Avatar m tn Before leaving her doctors office your mother should have gotten a wealth of printed information on how to control and manage her diabetes. A list of recommended home glucose test meters should have been part of that package.
231441 tn?1333892766 In a way being on insulin is easier because although I still have to be careful with diet, the insulin helps a lot. I monitor my blood sugar 4 times a day - at different times of the day (total of 6 possible testing times). Having high blood sugar increases risks for baby so I think it is important to be tested. Though of course better if you can manage with just diet and exercise.
Avatar n tn But lost my lab slip and asked for a new one but after literally every apt im sent over tk do blood work because my blood pressure is always high so i didnt get the slip till last week. My question is has anyone else taken it this late? How necessary is the test.

4476664 tn?1361632949 it was probably a little under or just about 16oz, ice cold. Have to drink in 5mins. No food or drink after that, wait an hour and then had three tubes of blood pulled (one 6mL tiger top, one 3mL grey to and one 3mL lavender top). I didn't have to fast. I ate my normal cereal in the AM before walking to the lab. I didn't get my results today, probably within the next day or so. I have doc appointment tomorrow so hopefully they will have it processed by then.
Avatar f tn I am scheduled for a 3hr glucose test and complete blood work up on Monday. Saying that I'm terrified is an understatement. I did a 1hr test at my first appointment and was so sick. Needles, nasty orange drink and fasting is not how I pictured my pregnancy. Any words of advice?

This stuff was nabbed in the us yet they still administered to pregnant woman ... Here's a link below is yiu can read up on it more http://foodbabe.
