Common Questions and Answers about Fasting glucose uk

glucose

Avatar f tn Fasting for one glucose test is not the same as fasting for the whole month of Ramadan. The first commenter is correct, you are exempted from fasting and following that exemption is strongly encouraged for the health of your baby.
194838 tn?1303428544 I do not test my own blood but am sent to the hospital for fairly regular tests but notice that when people post with their blood glucose levels they are in the 100s. I am from the UK and wonder if there is a conversion chart because I think it would be more beneficial if I could compare with others on the forum to get a sense of how im doing for comparison, Any advise would be greatly appreciated .
1674823 tn?1307263620 For one, the figures you gave are not consistent for a glucose level. For example, a normal glucose fasting level may be 70, whereas a postprandial glucose level (after eating), may be 120. Perhaps you meant to post the #'s without the decimal point? That would make more sense. Have you been diagnosed with pre-diabetes, or diabetes? Who instructed you to check your blood glucose and what were the instructions?
Avatar f tn Just wanted to ask all mums with gestational diabetes, when you check your glucose levels with a monitor how long after a meal are you required to do so? What's the maximum mmol you should be or aim for? Just curious, coz here in the UK they expect us to achieve a job max of 7.5mmol an HOUR after a meal! It's very difficult....
11195379 tn?1427921527 I failed the 1st test. I was fasting. Passed the 3 hr test.. Fasting as well.
Avatar f tn Glucose intolerance is when the body does not utilise the glucose in your body properly and the fasting blood glucose level is above 6.0 mmol/L or your blood glucose level is over 7.8 mmol/L 2 hours after consuming 75g of glucose. At this stage, with life style changes and exercises, you can still avoid getting diabetes. You could say it is pre diabetes. The symptoms of glucose intolerance can be those of hyperglycaemia and also tingling sensations.
Avatar n tn ve have had these same tests done non-fasting and fasting. I believe the reason behind the fasting is that some of the measurements are more accurate after fasting especially glucose. I think the docs just want the most accurate results they can get. I would relax until you get your results. A high GGT can be an indicator of alcohol consumption but I would pay more attention to AST and ALT. In any case cutting out alcohol is the healthiest decision if you are concerned. Take Care!
Avatar n tn Hello, To me, I hope that I am wrong, you are likely a pre-diabetic, either type 1 or 2 . Question: Why with a single and random glucose reading at 165, that I conclude such guessing. Answer:It's very simply, a 5th grader can conclude the same thing as I did. Why? Because a non diabetic reading is almost always less then 120, even 1 hr. after meal.
Avatar f tn Hey ladies am 27 weeks and have my glucose test next week. My midwife has instructed that that i have lucozade original an hour before the appointment. She hasn't mentioned anything about fasting it is normal.
Avatar m tn FBC, CRP, ESR, Renal profile were normal and chlesterol and LDL were high. Fasting glucose was normal. Blood pressure readings were mainly < 140/90. HIV-1/2 UK/EU recognised rapid blood tests were negative on 12 July 08 and again on 11 Nov 08. I am due for another follow-up in Jan 09. I was advised not to particiate in gym etc. after laser therapy, and as it has been almost 6 months post laser, I wonder if I can resume gym. Thanks.
Avatar m tn Both of your values suggest that you have impaired fasting glucose (range 100 - 125). The measurement is the same in fasting and non fasting testing - the difference is in the reference range. A normal fasting glucose is < 100 and the current thinking seems to be that even a result in the mid to high 90s might suggest close monitoring. The answer to your question is that it doesn't matter whether they call it non fasting or fasting glucose test result.
Avatar m tn In the UK, diabetes test measurements are presented as mmol/l [millimoles/liter]. Normal fasting mmo/l glucose [blood sugar] ranges are 3.88 to 5.5 mmol/l. If your "gone up to 18points" is a fasting 18 mmol/l you are in the danger zone of having serious life threatening health issues. Please educate yourself on the hows/what-to-do's on diabetes control and management before its too late.
975514 tn?1324997938 I recently had a blood test, which included a glucose test. I wasn't fasting. I ate a bowl of whole grain cereal at about 5AM. My test was a 10AM. My uncle has diabetes and my sister is hypoglycemic. I know I get sick if I have a shake from McDonalds, but that's about it. I get really tired and nauseated. I don't drink sugary beverages at all just because I am always watching my weight, but I wonder now how that would effect me?
Avatar m tn s not enough. You need to do 2 hour fasting oral glucose with a fasting test, a test at 1 hour after drinking a 75 G drink of glucose solution and a 2 hour test. My fasting tests usually come back in a good range as well, but my 1 and 2 hour test after drinking the glucose drink are well over 200 which is all it takes to diagnose diabetes. If you have a monitor and are "randomly" doing testing... all I can say, is quit doing it randomly. For 3-4 days in a row test at these times.
Avatar n tn I had a glucose tolerance test and an insulin fasting (drinking the glucose drink) blood test done. I have seen my results but have not had them interpreted for me. My glucose fasting results came back within normal range but my insulin fasting results came back out of range for the 0,1, & 2 hour results. They were much higher than the normal ranges. Does this mean I have insulin resistance?
Avatar m tn thanks a lot for that formula was just looking for that. Indeed it appears IR is a major factor. I am wondering why that is not being checked routinely. I just did pre tx baseline bloods. Do you think IR was on the labsheet ? Nope, just caught that last minute by reading about IR on UK forum and put it on the labsheet myself. And than I being told that the hepatologist I am with is one of the best. you can be ir without symptoms so there is no way to know unless you test for it.
Avatar m tn According to the UK Diabetes web site the results of a fasting test for glucose levels in the body are:- Normal levels are: 3.9 to 5.5 mmol/l (70 to 100mg/dl) Prediabetes or impaired glucose tolerance levels are: 5.6 to 7.0 mmol/l (101 to 126 mg/dl) Diagnosis of diabetes the levels are: more than 7. mmol/l (126 mg/dl) Well in the UK they were until a couple of years ago when it was reduced to 6.9 mmol/l.
