Common Questions and Answers about Fasting glucose tolerance test results

glucose

Avatar n tn I had a glucose tolerance test and an insulin fasting (drinking the glucose drink) blood test done. I have seen my results but have not had them interpreted for me. My glucose fasting results came back within normal range but my insulin fasting results came back out of range for the 0,1, & 2 hour results. They were much higher than the normal ranges. Does this mean I have insulin resistance?
Avatar n tn I'm a 53 year old woman who just had a 3 hour glucose tolerance test, here are my results: Fasting - 106 1 hour - 210 2 hour - 230 3 hour - 167 I'm not sure if these results mean I'm a pre-diabetic or diabetic. Thank you for your help in advance.
Avatar n tn I have been seeing an endocrinologist because I am constantly having low blood sugar readings and have had a high fasting blood glucose test of 8.3. My endocrinologist feels this may be due to my dysautonomia. She thought maybe reactive hypoglycemia because I am having low fasting glucose levels as well as high. I went for a 2hr OGTT today and I am feeling horrible after the test. My baseline was 4.8 @ 8:55 Given 75g of glucose to drink At 4.3 @ 9:25 At 4.8 @ 9:55 At 6.2 @ 10:25 At 6.
Avatar f tn Impaired Glucose Tolerance A person is said to have impaired glucose tolerance when the 2-hour glucose results from the oral glucose tolerance test are greater than or equal to 140 but less than 200 mg/dl. This is also considered a risk factor for future diabetes. There has recently been discussion about lowering the upper value to 180 mg/dl to diagnose more mild diabetes to allow earlier intervention and hopefully prevention of diabetic complications.
Avatar n tn How much the sugar varies from before meal to after meal seems to be the issue here. The glucose tolerance test is the correct test to see how your body reacts to high levels of carbohydrates. It does sound to me as if you perhaps vary more than is ideal, for a low of 57 or high of 256 is something that even diabetics try to avoid.
Avatar f tn With most fasting glucose tolerance test I think it was 10 hours only. Here when you have a fasting test the won't accept anything over 12 hours.
975514 tn?1324997938 I left out in my previous post, an OGTT [Oral Glucose Tolerance Test] can be used in place of an fasting test. Sometimes doctors do both to verify one to test with another.
875426 tn?1325528416 t matter if the patient has been fasting or the test is random [excludes OGTT [oral glucose tolerance test]]. A doctor may perform random glucose 'blood' testing to see if glucose varies widely throughout the day. Healthy peeps do not.
Avatar n tn "i had a blood sugar test (the finger ***** one) and my level was "perfect"." If you had soap or alcohol residue on your finger the test results would be imperfect. If the meter was old and mishandled, uncalibrated, test strips expired the test would results would be imperfect. The OGTT is one way to help determine blood glucose levels. Be sure to fast 8-10 hours prior. No food or colored liquids during this period. Don't cheat. Just a little bit skewers the results.
Avatar f tn I had milk and left over garlic bread not even an hour before I started the test. My results came out fine. They are only checking random glucose tolerance not fasting. The cutoff for the results are different so you don't need to worry. Normally Your body is supposed to produce insulin enough to cover your intake no matter how much you eat.
Avatar f tn Get an A1c test to verify your glucose levels. This is another blood glucose test. Your fasting test results do indicate diabetes. Although this may be associated with your PCOS I'd wait for the liver/kidney/hormonal tests results. I think your doctor is on the right track in determining what is causing your issues.
1033523 tn?1258035082 (some labs have low point as 60 mg/dl) 2.) OGTT [Oral Glucose Tolerance Test] - You are given a sugary liquid to drink. You are tested in 1 hour intervals. This test is given to see how well your body sheds excess glucose after 1, 2 and 3 hours of ingesting the liquid. 3.) RGT [Random Glucose Test] - Tested at any given time. Several may be done throughout the day. Levels that vary widely indicates a problem.
Avatar f tn m going to be 24 weeks tomorrow and I have an appointment for the 3h glucose tolerance test. Its my 4th time since I am pregnant. Just because one of my results was not normal. I wonder why the doctor dont start to treat me for high glucose , instead I have to do this over and over again.... I am so tired of fasting and doing this test.... anyone in a similar situation?
Avatar f tn Hi Everyone, I've been diagnosed with idiopathic Small Fiber Neuropathy which I'm sure as many of you know is a common malady with diabetics. The "idiopathic" is hard to accept, so I've been doing a lot of reading and research myself, and requested an Oral Glucose Tolerance Test. I'd like to share my results of that test and other glucose-related tests and get some opinions if I could. Fasting Glucose: Low 80s (consistently) A1c: 5.
Avatar f tn I would recommend a OGTT (oral glucose tolerance test). My glucose was normal on fasting but abnormal two hours after drinking glucose. My fasting insulin was high and even higher two hours. (I would recommended insulin to be tested as well). In my case too much sugar in my diet lead to insulin resistance but hyperthyroidism caused impaired glucose tolerance.
Avatar f tn Hi, Is this 140 a fasting level? If it is a fasting level it is not normal. Normal fasting should be lower than 95, and ideally even in the 80s. Are you overweight or any other health issues? Family history of diabetes? I would strongly recommend that you visit your doctor and tell him or her your results. They should do some further investigation. Hba1c and glucose testing. If you have a home glucose meter, please do some more testing.
