My doctor said its very unusual to have outbreaks all the time on medication. She has prescribed Famvir for me now. Can you tell me if this is normal?

9-12 days in developed urethritis(swabbed the urethra, neg for gon and chlmd) 12 days in took 1000mg Azithromycin and 3 days of cipro(2x day) Day 15 stopped cipro and took Famvir for 4 days at 500mg 3x day. Burning while peeing stopped within 24 hours of famvir although the 2nd urine culture prior to start of famvir was neg for WBC. Day 15 developed a rash and burning in the anus but no lesions. doctor swabs the region and a TZanck smear and both negative.

Is it possible to get outbreaks while on treatment? After the initial outbreak which was treated with single-dose famvir, I had no symptoms for 3 weeks except sore throat/adenopathy. My doctor gave me acyclovir 250mg 3x a day, 7 days to see if it would treat the adenopathy and after a few days on it i had an outbreak. He said that was almost impossible to have an outbreak on a treatment dose.

If it was a canker sore, why did it react to the Famvir? Does Famvir still have an effect on canker sores then, as well as cold sores? Am I contagious? Was I ever contagious? And can I actually kiss my husband again? Thanks for any advice! Much appreciated.

Did you tested for HHV 6 ?? It is know to cause neuropathic symtoms. Hope you feel better soon.

If you are having a period while you are breastfeeding then you can TTC as usual. I was breastfeeding and had two very light period didn't think much of them and got pregnant again. My two youngest will be 14 months apart!

I have type 1 hsv genital and oral. I had sex with a girl 2 weeks ago (wore a condom) and took 1000 mg of famvir that night after sex and the next 3 days. I just talked to my midwife about breastfeeding while pregnant this morning and she said it is perfectly fine. She said people who don't know the facts think you need to stop, but that is not true. You can definitely get pregnant while breastfeeding. It being a birth control is a common misconception. However I have had very unregular periods after having kiddos. And before mine were always clock work.

All u can take while breastfeeding is ibuprofen u can't take tylenol. It's weird cause while ur prego all u can have is tylenol and while breastfeeding all I can take is ibuprofen funny huh.

There is medication that you can take while your pregnant so I would assume there is cold sore remedies too. Go speak to the pharmacist.

typically it is just fine for you to continue breastfeeding while pregnant, you may need to take extra vitamins and up you calorie intake even more than a typical pregnant women, so you can provide for both. since you do have history of MC I would definitely talk with your Dr as he or she may want to keep a close eye on your iron levels and any other levels that maybe effected by breastfeeding!

To answer your question, YES it is perfectly safe to go on birth control pills while breastfeeding, HOWEVER, you can not take pills that contain estrogen. There are pills call "mini-pills" or "pops" (progesterone only pills) such as camilla and micronor that are considered safe during breastfeeding. Ask your doctor about it. Some docs will give you a script straight out of the hospital, others will make you wait until you have your 6 week post partum check up.

In the following years (2007-2009) i have only had 3-4 outbreaks. when i get an outbreak i use famvir, 2 tablets at first then 1 every 12 hours for 3 doses. these always worked quickly and the outbreaks were never severe and didn't last longer than a week or so start to finish. In the last 2 weeks (jan 2010) i had a small outbreak that i immediately took my usual dose of famvir for and it cleared up, almost totally within 5-7 days.
