famvir

Avatar n tn I got zovirax ointment for cold sore but reading i found out ointment is for genital herpes does it really matter ?
Avatar m tn Been tested and results are positive for HSV. Also getting zoster herpes. Taking FAMVIR 125 mg x 2 and/or zovirax (400mg x 2) every day as preventative but it is not working. Why is this not working anymore? What could be triggering this? Could I have another sickness causing this? I am getting desperate now. Doctors are just telllng me to take zovirax and disbelieve me. I will go and see a specialist again but is there anything that can be done except for taking these drugs?
Avatar m tn I just wanted to know what are the symptoms of herpes if it occurs inside urethra of men or does it occur inside urethra, as i have been through chamdlya test which came out negative a urine culture which also came normal and a urethra swab for culture test which also came negative then the urologist treated me with rociphin 2g iv for 7 days but then after 7 months suddenly on my penis herpes simplex has occured which is now been treated with zovirax 10g ointment and famvir 250mg oral tablets.
Avatar m tn Sores scabed and went away after 1 week. Now the blisters are back in the same place. He has given me zovirax this time. Do outbreaks happen so close together? After 10 years without ant noticeable outbreaks now I have 2 in 2 months? Thanks.
Avatar n tn did you continue to have this burning sensation after you stopped antivirals? You never updated your prior post on this . what other sort of work up have you had done since last november?
Avatar f tn Antibiotics will not cure herpes, in fact, they will do nothing to alleviate symptoms either. Antiviral medication, such as Valtrex (valacyclovir), Famvir (famiciclovir), or Zovirax (acyclovir) can help suppress the virus so you will have less outbreaks and less frequent viral shedding, but it cannot be cured. However, you can still transmit the virus while on this medication, even if you are not having an outbreak.
Avatar f tn If it was a canker sore, why did it react to the Famvir? Does Famvir still have an effect on canker sores then, as well as cold sores? Am I contagious? Was I ever contagious? And can I actually kiss my husband again? Thanks for any advice! Much appreciated.
Avatar f tn Oral acyclovir or the recently developed drugs, valacyclovir (Valtrex) or famciclovir (Famvir), lessen the symptoms and frequency of fever blister recurrences for some patients. These drugs prevent HSV from multiplying and are effective when taken in pill form prior to an outbreak of the virus. Topical antiviral creams containing acyclovir (Zovirax) or penciclovir (Denavir) may also help in limiting the extent or duration of lesions if applied promptly to affected areas.
Avatar f tn Acyclovir (Zovirax) and famciclovir (Famvir) are similarly nontoxic. The official prescribing information for valacyclovir indicates a 1% chance of minor abnormalities of liver function in people taking valacyclovir, which was slightly higher than 0.5% for placebo. That difference was not statistically significant and there is no suggestion even for routine liver tests in people taking the drug.
Avatar m tn acyclovir (Zovirax), famciclovir (Famvir), and valacyclovir (Valtrex) The rabbit hole of "natural treatments" and remedies is never ending and fraught with peril, proceed cautiously.
Avatar m tn Well valtrex is generic now everywhere so it shouldn't be a money issue for most folks if they have decent prescription coverage with their insurance. Acyclovir is still way cheaper but if you have insurance coverage that makes generics low cost, valtrex is, as of this month, going to be WAY cheaper for you now :) the technicality to the answer to your question is this - only valtrex has been studied for reduction in transmission to a partner.
Avatar m tn 5 mg of entecavir cause resistance in patients who never have been on any nucs and no polymerase resistance detected vs 1mg. My doctor wants me to take 1mg vs 0.5 mg but I have been been on any nucs and show no resistance to any nucs during genotype testing.
Avatar f tn He has had about 6 outbreaks in the last 60 days and the most recent was more than 4 lesions all over his bottom lip. Besides the zovirax ointment, which is difficult to administer since his lips are so sore, are their oral meds vs. topical that would be effective and safe? My pediatrician says he's too young for suppression therapy, but I've read other places that it's available for children under 12. Very frustrated, and just want to give my son some relief.
Avatar m tn I have severe atrophic vaginitis and a history of genital ulceration with odd tingly-burny-itchies for many years. Despite this, I have had a positive test for HSV-2 (2004), followed by a negative western blot about 6+/- mths after my only possible exposure, and at least one additional negative HerpeSelect almost 3 years later.
Avatar n tn When my refills are out, I have been planning on ordering Zovirax online in the dosage prescribd by my doctor. I know this is probably advised against, but are there any risks in doing this? It would just help my peace of mind so much more. Also are side effects such as hair loss only a concern for long term suppressive therapy? Acyclovir seems to help but it seems like it would depress me even more if I lost hair or went bald because of it.
Avatar m tn I have had the tingling on my lips along with redness for two months now with not break-out and been on and off with Valtrex and Famvir. Now I am feeling tingling sensations in other part of my hands but not as intense as when it was on my index and thumb. My biggest concern is my son. I don't want him to get this from me. I've lost a lot of sleep and continue to stress out about this. None of the medications are working.
Avatar m tn So the OBGYN that was there prescribed her Zovirax. She put some on the painful area and it actually aggravated the pain. I read online somewhere else that Zovirax should not be applied to mucus membrane areas such as Vagina or inside mouth ? Doctor, however, recommended her to..... The topical treatment my doctor prescribed me is called Clomitrazole (anitfungal). It seems to be working. My red bumps have receded but are still visible.
