Famvir medication dosage

Common Questions and Answers about Famvir medication dosage

famvir

Avatar f tn I do. I have for years but have never had this problem. Possibly I'm just more sensitive with the HSV? They called in Famvir for me to start but I think I might take a medication vacation for a few days. If I start showing sx of an outbreak, I'll go get the Famvir. I've read that Famvir isn't as effective at suppressing viral shedding as Valtrex. I'm not in a relationship right now, so that's not a pressing issue, I just like being informed.
Avatar f tn If it was a canker sore, why did it react to the Famvir? Does Famvir still have an effect on canker sores then, as well as cold sores? Am I contagious? Was I ever contagious? And can I actually kiss my husband again? Thanks for any advice! Much appreciated.
Avatar n tn My doctor said its very unusual to have outbreaks all the time on medication. She has prescribed Famvir for me now. Can you tell me if this is normal?
Avatar f tn I hope someone can help. I've had horrible recurring pain in my right eye for over a year. Went to Optho. multiple times and was told it was an infected oil gland. I was put on low dose antibiotics for over 6 months and told to apply warm compresses and scrub eye with a baby shampoo/water solution. I developed a rash on my buttocks months into this that my GP diagnosed as shingles and prescribed Famvir.
Avatar f tn The most important issue is that your put on antiviral medication at a time prior to delivery to surpress the virus. Work with your doctor on the but its nothing to be overly concerned about at all. The far bigger risk is for mothers that contact the virus during pregnancy where antibodies are lacking and more outbreaks could occur. Tell us about the test you took confirming your positive for hsv. Also very important that the father is tested to confirm his status as well.
Avatar n tn I was not comfortable with the dr so i went to see another one, he prescribed me famvir and told me to come back in 6 weeks for testing for herpes, though he saw nothing he could culture or anything indicative of herpes. The famvir relieved my symptoms though every time i go off it i get about 5 days of relief before symptoms start to come back. I also have had general (and painful) adenopathy since early feb. but dr dismissed it as no big deal.
Avatar n tn He told me to go on famvir (think thats what it says his writing is a mess) when I feel an outbreak coming on. I have a few questions now that I was told I have this.
Avatar m tn Famvir and acyclovir work the same as Valtrex. Different dosages, though. The cheapest one is ayclovir.
Avatar f tn However I have learned from the psychiatrists I have seen over the years who at times did allow me to lower the dosage of a medication if they felt I could maintain stability was that what can appear as if a person might not need a medication or a specific dose could easily be because it is working. Also I didnt feel the effect of the lowering of the medication until two weeks later because it took that long to get out of my bloodstream.
6562593 tn?1391182775 I will be on Famvir for suppression for my lifetime and was told I might need blood work occasionaly to check kidney and liver functions. Anyone know why?
Avatar f tn Hi, if i have herpes in 3 locations is it possible that my body will not be able to suppress the virus even with antiviral medication? I have it in my eyes, hands, and mouth. Outbreaks have been continuous even with meds.
Avatar n tn There is medication that you can take while your pregnant so I would assume there is cold sore remedies too. Go speak to the pharmacist.
Avatar m tn Did you tested for HHV 6 ?? It is know to cause neuropathic symtoms. Hope you feel better soon.
Avatar m tn There are 3 antivirals (oral medication) generally prescribed for treating HSV. These are Valtrex/valacyclovir, Famvir/famciclovir, and acyclovir. They require a doctor's prescription. There are also several topicals that you can get over the counter. Some of these are Abreva, Releev, and Dermoplast. In addition some people use natural remedies such as honey, which has been found to have antiviral properties.
4762310 tn?1362165935 The same rules apply as with the initial adjustment period, so to be fair, you should give the medication another 4-6 weeks after your dosage was increased. Many times improvements can be seen before that, but to be safe, being that everyone responds differently to medications, 4-6 weeks will ensure you've given it ample time. If after that time, you STILL aren't seeing improvements, then it's definitely time to speak with your doc and reevaluate your regimen.
