Common Questions and Answers about Famvir info

famvir

Avatar f tn I don't think we have info on famvir dosing during pregnancy. We recommend the higher immunosuppression doses of valtrex and acyclovir during the last month of pregnancy. Your body is naturally immunosuppressed during pregnancy so it takes the higher doses to better control the virus. since you were infected with hsv2 prior to pregnancy, the odds of transmission to your baby during birth are less than 1% as long as you don't have any obvious symptoms during delivery.
Avatar n tn However he made me nervous as he confused me for a few mins with a girl he had tested before me who was raped but than confirmed the info he was looking at was mine. I asked him if I should go for blood work and confirm this and he said no. He told me to go on famvir (think thats what it says his writing is a mess) when I feel an outbreak coming on. I have a few questions now that I was told I have this.
Avatar f tn If valtrex is too pricey for you on your insurance - look into famvir or acyclovir - both are available as a cheaper generic and is usually more affordable with insurances. If you've never read the herpes handbook before I suggest you give it a read. It has more info on treatments for further reading - www.westoverheights.com.
Avatar f tn If it was a canker sore, why did it react to the Famvir? Does Famvir still have an effect on canker sores then, as well as cold sores? Am I contagious? Was I ever contagious? And can I actually kiss my husband again? Thanks for any advice! Much appreciated.
Avatar m tn Did you tested for HHV 6 ?? It is know to cause neuropathic symtoms. Hope you feel better soon.
Avatar m tn Well valtrex is generic now everywhere so it shouldn't be a money issue for most folks if they have decent prescription coverage with their insurance. Acyclovir is still way cheaper but if you have insurance coverage that makes generics low cost, valtrex is, as of this month, going to be WAY cheaper for you now :) the technicality to the answer to your question is this - only valtrex has been studied for reduction in transmission to a partner.
Avatar n tn My doctor said its very unusual to have outbreaks all the time on medication. She has prescribed Famvir for me now. Can you tell me if this is normal?
Avatar m tn Had it biopsied and came back as a viral exanthem but no erythema. Was originally put on famvir for 3 days by a medexpress doc but was taken off that when I saw my normal doctor. I also felt a slight irritation at the tip of my penis a week after exposure, which they found bacteria in my urine and put me on antibiotics and the slight irritation in my penis went away. I've had some urine dribbling and redness on my penis head but no bumps or lesions. My negative tests at 9.
Avatar m tn In the following years (2007-2009) i have only had 3-4 outbreaks. when i get an outbreak i use famvir, 2 tablets at first then 1 every 12 hours for 3 doses. these always worked quickly and the outbreaks were never severe and didn't last longer than a week or so start to finish. In the last 2 weeks (jan 2010) i had a small outbreak that i immediately took my usual dose of famvir for and it cleared up, almost totally within 5-7 days.
Avatar f tn You may not get that side effect. I haven't, and I did get it from a heart medication I take. Your mileage may vary, of course. There is another antiviral called famvir. Hair loss isn't a known side effect of that. However, it is more expensive, usually, though it has also been studied and does reduce shedding, and therefore, probably transmission - https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/17538513/ Valtrex is a little better for reducing shedding - https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar n tn You can sometimes head off a full blown cold sore if you start the medication soon enough. For famvir and valtrex, the cold sore doses are just 1 day treatments. see their websites for more info.
Avatar f tn I hope someone can help. I've had horrible recurring pain in my right eye for over a year. Went to Optho. multiple times and was told it was an infected oil gland. I was put on low dose antibiotics for over 6 months and told to apply warm compresses and scrub eye with a baby shampoo/water solution. I developed a rash on my buttocks months into this that my GP diagnosed as shingles and prescribed Famvir.
Avatar m tn have been now 5 months outbreak free (leading a really healthy lifestyle). My doctor prescribed me for my outbreaks famvir, 125 mg twice a day during 5 days. I have a girlfriend and we have talked about this and both of us would like to make sex without condoms. We have sex each 2/3 weeks. I wouldnt like to take suppresive therapy daily, if we are having sex each 2 / 3 weeks (wich is very little). Taking this in mind what would be considered an effective suppresive therapy?
Avatar m tn It should've been 2 500mg famvir tablets to take 2x/day for 1 day. Is that what you were given or just 1 500mg pill?
Avatar n tn d like for us to be able to have oral sex, but not if it will further spread the virus. We are both taking Famvir daily and almost never have outbreaks. I also know that it is possible to spread the virus without an outbreak. Please don't suggest condoms or dental dams - I'd rather just skip it altogether. Also, I know that prophylactics often don't protect against spreading the virus.
Avatar n tn i know that valtrex and famvir are different family of anti-viral's. has anyone had poor results with valtrex and had to change to famvir? i don't seem to be responding to valtrex or acyclovir so i might change.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had better results with Famvir? And does it help suppress transmission like Valtrex does? My Dr thinks the Valtrex might be causing my hair loss so I am switching....
Avatar n tn Also my doctor prescribed famvir but I don't have genital herpes. Can Famvir help with penis pain?
Avatar n tn I have been on 500mg of Famvir for a month as I had pain a while back and just kept taking it. After our sexual encounter I started 1000 mg and for a week have kept that up. This morning I went to the ER cause I developed the same sort of rash I mentioned before on my fold between my leg and privates. The ER Dr walked in glanced at it and said Candida and walked out. He didn't even look at me for 5 secs. I wonder if it's possible this 'Candida' diagnosis is way off?
