Famvir generic

Common Questions and Answers about Famvir generic

famvir

Avatar m tn Well valtrex is generic now everywhere so it shouldn't be a money issue for most folks if they have decent prescription coverage with their insurance. Acyclovir is still way cheaper but if you have insurance coverage that makes generics low cost, valtrex is, as of this month, going to be WAY cheaper for you now :) the technicality to the answer to your question is this - only valtrex has been studied for reduction in transmission to a partner.
Avatar f tn If valtrex is too pricey for you on your insurance - look into famvir or acyclovir - both are available as a cheaper generic and is usually more affordable with insurances. If you've never read the herpes handbook before I suggest you give it a read. It has more info on treatments for further reading - www.westoverheights.com.
Avatar m tn research for herpes is greatly stalled unfortunately, especially since valtrex and famvir both went generic. unfortunately the treatments we currently have, work too darn good for it to be worth all the money it takes for new treatments and theracines to be a priority. until things hit phase 3 trials, I give little attention to them. Too many years of watching studies that seem promising and totally tank in phase 3.
Avatar f tn i doubt you have developed a tolerance for famvir. I believe cortisone can affect the immune system, and it's very probable that it's causing an ob. The sores in your mouth may be cankers, which are related to stress and immune system overload. Talk to your doc and see if you can get off that cortisone!
Avatar n tn 4. generic v brand? i notic that my generic changed from plain white pills that had no outer coating to blue pills with numbers (teva pharma). i think i am gettig better respionse from the new blue pills. is there any benefit from using brand ($100) v generic ($5)? i was not getting good response from white plain generic valtrex. 5. doe s anyone use PARNATE?? is it affective?
Avatar m tn You need to be taking the antiviral all the time to help prevent EM. Are you doing this or just when an outbreak occurs? Some people find antihistamines helpful. A little dangerous of me to suggest perhaps but they are freely available drugs. You can take daily fexofenadine and ranitidine tablets.
Avatar f tn If it was a canker sore, why did it react to the Famvir? Does Famvir still have an effect on canker sores then, as well as cold sores? Am I contagious? Was I ever contagious? And can I actually kiss my husband again? Thanks for any advice! Much appreciated.
Avatar m tn Did you tested for HHV 6 ?? It is know to cause neuropathic symtoms. Hope you feel better soon.
Avatar n tn My doctor said its very unusual to have outbreaks all the time on medication. She has prescribed Famvir for me now. Can you tell me if this is normal?
Avatar n tn This info only applies to valtrex, not to acyclovir or famvir ( valtrex is not yet available in most countries as a generic - only in india and it can't be legally sold outside of india ). They have not studied this ( and published it ) in the other 2 herpes antivirals to compare them." I don't know though if this fully applies to you because it wasn't clear if you were having an outbreak at the same time as you had sex .
Avatar f tn t willing to prescribe acyclovir instead to see if you do better on that, perhaps time to find a different gyn unfortunately. Even though famvir is a generic now, it's still higher priced and you have to take it more often than valtrex so not really worth it unless you are one of the folks who just seems to do better on it.
Avatar m tn In the following years (2007-2009) i have only had 3-4 outbreaks. when i get an outbreak i use famvir, 2 tablets at first then 1 every 12 hours for 3 doses. these always worked quickly and the outbreaks were never severe and didn't last longer than a week or so start to finish. In the last 2 weeks (jan 2010) i had a small outbreak that i immediately took my usual dose of famvir for and it cleared up, almost totally within 5-7 days.
Avatar f tn I hope someone can help. I've had horrible recurring pain in my right eye for over a year. Went to Optho. multiple times and was told it was an infected oil gland. I was put on low dose antibiotics for over 6 months and told to apply warm compresses and scrub eye with a baby shampoo/water solution. I developed a rash on my buttocks months into this that my GP diagnosed as shingles and prescribed Famvir.
Avatar m tn have been now 5 months outbreak free (leading a really healthy lifestyle). My doctor prescribed me for my outbreaks famvir, 125 mg twice a day during 5 days. I have a girlfriend and we have talked about this and both of us would like to make sex without condoms. We have sex each 2/3 weeks. I wouldnt like to take suppresive therapy daily, if we are having sex each 2 / 3 weeks (wich is very little). Taking this in mind what would be considered an effective suppresive therapy?
Avatar m tn It should've been 2 500mg famvir tablets to take 2x/day for 1 day. Is that what you were given or just 1 500mg pill?
Avatar n tn d like for us to be able to have oral sex, but not if it will further spread the virus. We are both taking Famvir daily and almost never have outbreaks. I also know that it is possible to spread the virus without an outbreak. Please don't suggest condoms or dental dams - I'd rather just skip it altogether. Also, I know that prophylactics often don't protect against spreading the virus.
Avatar m tn I started on 250 acyclovir and was having less sever breakouts but same frequency. Then changed to famvir 500mg/day and didn’t have an outbreak for 18 months. But when I did, it was more severe. And last was 5 months between outbreaks, again more severe but I haven’t been on the end that long I guess. I’d like a virologist opinion.
Avatar n tn i know that valtrex and famvir are different family of anti-viral's. has anyone had poor results with valtrex and had to change to famvir? i don't seem to be responding to valtrex or acyclovir so i might change.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had better results with Famvir? And does it help suppress transmission like Valtrex does? My Dr thinks the Valtrex might be causing my hair loss so I am switching....
Avatar n tn Also my doctor prescribed famvir but I don't have genital herpes. Can Famvir help with penis pain?
Avatar f tn Good Morning. My NP just called and the test was positive for HSV 2. She put me on Famvir 500 bid on day one and then 250 bid thereafter, when I left the office last week. So, an IgG wont be accurate now much to my dismay. I would have liked to know if new or old exposure. She said she was sorry that she just assumed it was from the new contact. Water under bridge now as I would prefer not to discontinue the suppressive. I did not mention before but I am a RN.
