Been tested and results are positive for HSV. Also getting zoster herpes. Taking FAMVIR 125 mg x 2 and/or zovirax (400mg x 2) every day as preventative but it is not working. Why is this not working anymore? What could be triggering this? Could I have another sickness causing this? I am getting desperate now. Doctors are just telllng me to take zovirax and disbelieve me. I will go and see a specialist again but is there anything that can be done except for taking these drugs?

i am 45 years old and i am suffring with shingles mostly people said that its std and and i need to know that are these std if yes than i should be careful with my wife and if not than i ll be relax and also need to know that i am having severe and sometime less pain any medication for the pain relief plz

Started approx. 3 yrs. ago with quarter sized itchy rash with blisters at bottom of spine. It reocurrs approx. once a month--with pain going to hip and down the leg, with numbness and tingling in foot. One dr. took blood test & advised it was zoster; a dermatologist took a skin sample (after rash had dried up) and said it was simplex. I'm now having a endoscopy to test for celiac disease. The celiac panelI had for that showed elevation, but not conclusive.
4gms/day (from Pentasa 4gms/day) one month ago. I was started on Famvir today-500mg tid. I am leaving for Hawaii on Wednesday and am scheduled to swim with the dolphins on Thursday. I have completed my first full day's dose of medicine and will continue until the prescription is completed. I am then staying on a maintenance dose of 250mg/day until I can get the vaccine in 6mos at age 60. My question is if it is safe for me to go ahead with my scheduled dolphin swim.
She told me that they were due to herpes. She referred to them as herpes zoster?? She prescribed me famvir and zithomax. I am seriously freaking out right now. I have had a horrible three years worrying about std's and thought i was finally done with that part of my life. I thought since i had taken the tests and they came back negative I would be fine??? Should I have gotten them to swab it and test it that way? Do I have throat herpes? Please help....
Also, I told them that I felt that there were two lumps on my eyelids, to which he told me again that it had nothing to do with shingles and could have been there before shingles which I might not have noticed before. Also, it could be removed with a surgery. – But I doubt that, because I know these lumps were not there before shingles. Moreover, I had two very big blisters on the EXACT SAME spot when I had shingles.
That SAME DAY I went in, I asked to get tested for HSV1/HSV2 just for a check up. I have never EVER had any symptoms of these STDs, NOTHING ever appear on my genitals exept for on my thumb, arm and stomach area.
I got the test results 4 days later and came out negative for HSV1 but positve for HSV2. I am in shock!!!
Hello. I have recurrent cold sores and have a Famvir prescription for this. Two weeks ago, I felt and saw redness, lumpiness and then a whitish sore that I associate with cold sores and hurriedly bolted down 1500mg of Famvir. But the sore/lesion seems to have been on the inside of my lip (the moist inner mouth), and not on my skin. Stupidly I didn't think of this til later. I think, in my panic, I just went for the meds as the easy solution without thinking.
how long did you take the famvir for? are you sure that you haven't done anything else along with taking famivir that could have helped the symptoms? simply from being at rest for example.

9-12 days in developed urethritis(swabbed the urethra, neg for gon and chlmd)
12 days in took 1000mg Azithromycin and 3 days of cipro(2x day)
Day 15 stopped cipro and took Famvir for 4 days at 500mg 3x day. Burning while peeing stopped within 24 hours of famvir although the 2nd urine culture prior to start of famvir was neg for WBC.
Day 15 developed a rash and burning in the anus but no lesions. doctor swabs the region and a TZanck smear and both negative.
It hasn’t stopped (though most of the time it seems to have slowed). How long does it take for my hair to stop falling out from this?
In the following years (2007-2009) i have only had 3-4 outbreaks. when i get an outbreak i use famvir, 2 tablets at first then 1 every 12 hours for 3 doses. these always worked quickly and the outbreaks were never severe and didn't last longer than a week or so start to finish.
In the last 2 weeks (jan 2010) i had a small outbreak that i immediately took my usual dose of famvir for and it cleared up, almost totally within 5-7 days.
I'm a 36 year old male. About five days ago I noticed a single small red bump on my upper right thigh. It was somewhat itchy. Then about three days later the area developed into a rash with several red bumps. The bumps aren't really clustered together nor are they in a row, they are spread out within the area of the rash about 1/2 to 1/4 of an inch apart. The area was itchy and somewhat painful if rubbing up against my pants.
