famvir and hair loss

I stopped taking Famcyclovir about 6 weeks ago due to severe hair loss. It hasn’t stopped (though most of the time it seems to have slowed). How long does it take for my hair to stop falling out from this?

I will I have been on it and experiencing hair loss they don't know if its from that med or a different one so they have me changing...

You may not get that side effect. I haven't, and I did get it from a heart medication I take. Your mileage may vary, of course. There is another antiviral called famvir. Hair loss isn't a known side effect of that. I know this could be caused by herpes virus as I have spoke with many people on similar sites suffering from what is described as post herpetic neuralgia. I have been on famvir suppressively and the symptoms have subsided, since my test results have been negative I stopped the famvir and the symptoms returned. My question is what other virus can cause these symptoms and is famvir effective against any other viruses other than herpes?

Two weeks ago, I felt and saw redness, lumpiness and then a whitish sore that I associate with cold sores and hurriedly bolted down 1500mg of Famvir. But the sore/lesion seems to have been on the inside of my lip (the moist inner mouth), and not on my skin. Stupidly I didn't think of this til later. I think, in my panic, I just went for the meds as the easy solution without thinking.

Also have sudden hearing loss and tinnitus in R ear diagnosed as viral, possibly herpes. After the last cortisone injection in January '09, I am having a genital herpes flareup which does not seem to be responding to Famcyclovir treatment. Also sores in my mouth. Am I possibly having a Herpes flareup due to the cortisone injections? What could have triggered this? Is it possible I have developed tolerance for Famclir so that it is not effective?

The small swellings in your armpit can be folliculitis,boils,hidradenitis suppurativa(skin disease that affects areas bearing sweat glands and hair follicles) and swollen lymph nodes.A clear cut diagnosis can only be made after examination.Pls consult a dermatologist for that. As for the hives,antihistaminics like benadryl or Claritin will help.Application of calamine helps in soothing the skin and corticosteroid creams like dermacort are also useful.

Only in the past 20 days, hair fall has gone up. Does hair straightening dry out the hair causing lack of moisture and thus hair fall?? I truly hope that this is temporary as you mentioned!!

I just finished Sovaldi and olysio and no hair loss at all, in fact hair looked great I do have hypothyroid which is familial, mother , daughters have it, Check your thyroid levels That can effect hair loss, dryness etc( even my eye brows and under arms thinned from hypothyroidism ) You may need to be on thyroid medication such as synthyroid if it is off

I have seen a local Derm who said there was no scarring on my scalp and no real skin issues associated with my hair loss. m natural with no chemicals in my hair and I have never had a problem with hair loss. I went from thick long hair to thin short hair. This is so sad. t experienced hair loss but have heard this is a (fairly rare) side effect. You should notify your neurologist and report this adverse event to Shared Solutions. Is it possible for you to switch to another DMD if this becomes intolerable?
