Avatar n tn Shingles (Herpes Zoster) is caused by varicella zoster virus (responsible for causing chicken pox also). Shingles does not occur in the genital areas. However, a virus belonging to the same family, herpes simplex virus can cause genital herpes involving labia, which is a common and highly contagious disease transmitted from one person to the other through sexual activity.
Avatar m tn One week prior to taking my hiv test i took Famciclovir for shingles would this interfeer with the results?
Avatar n tn The following antiviral medications are given in some cases for shingles Acyclovir, Famciclovir, or Valacyclovir, to reduce the pain and the duration of shingles.
Avatar m tn Around ten days later i was getting a little anxiety thinking i might have got herpes so i went and got tested . My antibodies for 1 and 2 both came back negative but my IGM came back positive. They told me to wait around six weeks and take an IGG to see wich one i got. Around ten days after my IGM results i developed a rash on my back and went to the doctor and he diagnosed me with shingles and gave me famcyclovir.
Avatar n tn Antiviral prescription medications such as FAMVIR® (famciclovir) can help reduce your symptoms and help shingles blisters heal faster. However, the medication should be started within 72 hours (3 days) after the rash of shingles appears, so it is important to see your doctor right away. Without treatment, the symptoms of shingles (eg, rash, blisters, and pain) usually go away in about 3 to 5 weeks.
Avatar n tn Thanks for your advice. I will take the test as recommended...I was going to do it anyway, but you probobly could have guessed that. Final questions...is shingles a symptom of primary hiv infection or is it something that occurs later on? I use condoms with my current girlfriend for vaginal sex only, not for oral sex. Should I modify this? Should I avoid contact altogether untilI get the test?
Avatar m tn what are the treatments for hsv2/ are they prescribed or can i get them over the counter?
Avatar m tn [8] Despite these promising results, early Famciclovir treatment for herpes in this or similar dosage regimes has yet to find mainstream adoption. As a result, some doctors and patients have opted for off-label use.
Avatar f tn Im a little terrified and dont know why else my finger would feel weird. It seems long for a prodromal but perhaps the famciclovir kept things at bay. I took 500 mg 2x day for a week. My questions: Do you think contractions was possible (anything possible!) I didnt have cuts on my hands. and If I test my blood in 4 months and it is negative: will that mean I do not have herpes ? Does the body need an outbreak to develop antibodies.
Avatar m tn I am 47 years old. For the last 9 months I am getting numbness on my fingers of the hands while walking. I thought this was due to carpal tunnel syndrome which I have for the past several years(due to carpal tunnel syndrome but numbness was occurring on hands at night while at sleep). So I discarded this numbness. But recently I read an article that this numbness may be a warning symptom heart attack. Is this correct? I have difficulty climbing and shortness of breath.
Avatar m tn Nearly fainted while I was at the gym which then turned into constant lightheadedness for now its 5th month. I had a shingles approximately a week after the episode. Our cases seem similar so I was hoping you had some input and suggestions to help. Did the B1 supplements help at all too? Cheers.
Avatar n tn He told me to take famciclovir for a second time. In total, lesions lasted for almost 4 weeks. No crust at anytime was formed. Since 5 years, I haven't had a recurrence (outbreaks). The only way I could imagine I contracted herpes is me transmitting my labial herpes (if I have it, like latent) to my genitals. I know that some days before I got a vesicule ( like 5 days before) I put my fingers in my mouth and touch my genitals after.
Avatar m tn I've suffered from multiple outbreaks of oral (Type 1) HSV for years. When I started prophylactic treatment with acyclovir, I saw a reduced occurrence for a few months, then they came back to about 4-5 outbreaks/year. I recently switched prophylactic medication from acyclovir to famciclovir, and had a 18-month period free from outbreak. Come yesterday, I had another terrible outbreak (worse than usual)... will these become more commonplace now? Is this a sign of HSV-resistance to the drug?
Avatar m tn Just 1 week before sexual exposure, I had finished taking Famciclovir 250mg for HSV-1 outbreak. And it cured. After 123 days(4 months) from last risky sexual exposure and 130 days from FAMCICLOVIR completion, I took HSV2(IGM and IGG) test and it turned out negative. I did not got any symptoms on genital area. Can I consider this as confirmatory for HSV-2 in my body? Should I need to go for more test? if so when to take the test? It is 4 months now completed from risk.
Avatar f tn I have had oral sex with my partner who has Genital Herpes 2 and I thought we did everything 'right' in preventing it being passed on to me. He hasn't had it for some time. I now have burning when going to the toilet, incredibly itchy skin and a few 'sore'. My doctor has taken a swab and is getting tested and gave my the 3 day internal canisten cream and i'm on tablets...Famciclovir 250mg twice a day. I've tried Vagisal....no go. I've tried Eylocaine Jelly...
Avatar m tn I've had HSV-1 since my college days. 15-20 years or so. I get outbreaks on and near my lips every few months, but after going on antivirals (Famciclovir 250 mg 2x/day) it's been lessened. My first question, being: if I have had the virus for this long, is there still a chance of me cross-contaminating myself with my own infection to other parts of MY body? (e.g., it's on lips to moving to my eyes, or hands, etc.
Avatar n tn Hello, I cannot confirm anything without examination but it can be contact dermatitis or shingles. Shingles occurs in people who have had chickenpox and represents a reactivation of the dormant varicella-zoster virus. The first sign is usually a tingling feeling, itchiness, or stabbing pain on the skin. After a few days, a rash appears as a band or patch of raised dots on the side of the trunk or face.
Avatar f tn Hi doctor I've had shingles for about 13 years now & I'm only 18. For years I've been wanting to get rid of the ugly scars that are on my forehead but every doctor was like a dead end. I really want to pursue removing the scars! What should I do?
