Avatar m tn and I have both of my cats on 250mg of lysine daily against feline herpes as well. I am on a fixed income and I have spent every last dime I have (and several I dont) on vet bills... it isnt resolved and I am at wits end. His eye is weeping the brown discharge again. The vet is now blaming me for his treatment failure, saying its my fault because I have not taken him to an opthalmologist. I dont have any money left for specialists, but I want desperately to help this cat...
Avatar m tn Several studies in humans and mice provide evidence that treatment with the antiviral drug Famciclovir soon after the first infection with herpes can significantly lower the chance of future symptomatic outbreaks of herpes. Use of Famciclovir in this manner has been shown to reduce the amount of latent herpes virus in the neural ganglia.[5][6][7] A review of human subjects treated for five days with Famciclovir 250 mg three times daily during their first herpes episode found that only 4.

If ANYBODY has used oral acyclovir for feline herpes, please send me a note or a message and let me know the dosage prescribed to you and how it worked for you? Or any information at all? Thanks! BTW, Gibbs is also taking 250 mg. of L-lysine twice a day. If anybody wants to know a great way to disguise medication so a cat will take it, let me know...
Avatar n tn Hi! Sorry if there's some mistakes in this post, english isn't my first language. So there's my story. I will give you as much details as I remember. I haven't had story of cold sore in my life. 5 years ago, I was with a guy (my boyfriend of the time). He didn't performed oral sex on me, but I had performed oral sex on him. We didn't have sex together. One day, it appeared 1 vesicule on each side of the labia minora (entrance of the vagina).
Avatar f tn After contact she told me she was experiencing what felt like herpes prodrome in the area I had touched. In subsequent follow ups, no outbreak occured innpatient. My concern is contracting herpetic whitlow. A week after contact I started experiencing numbness and an odd sensation on my fingertip.
Avatar m tn Just 1 week before sexual exposure, I had finished taking Famciclovir 250mg for HSV-1 outbreak. And it cured. After 123 days(4 months) from last risky sexual exposure and 130 days from FAMCICLOVIR completion, I took HSV2(IGM and IGG) test and it turned out negative. I did not got any symptoms on genital area. Can I consider this as confirmatory for HSV-2 in my body? Should I need to go for more test? if so when to take the test? It is 4 months now completed from risk.
Avatar f tn The answer to your question would be to wait. As the itching will pass if it is Herpes with the use of Famciclovir. You can ask your doctor for some kind of corticosteroid cream, however it is not recommended to apply it during treatment, but in cases of extreme itching it could be possible.

Avatar f tn Because you took antibiotics and it helped you, this is a sure sign that it's NOT herpes. Antibiotics does not treat Herpes because Herpes is not a bacteria it is a virus. Whatever you have is some sort of bacteria. NOT herpes. This is my opinion of course, but this is the direction I would go.
Avatar m tn i waited eighty days after my possible exposure at the gentlemans club and took an Herpes immunoassay gG2 test for herpes 2 and it came back negative. My question is could the famcyclovir that i took 6 1/2 weeks before my herpes 2 test have effected my test results where i could have got false negative or it wouldnt have effected my antibodies ? i have asked around and some have told me the medication could effect the virus but not the antibodies.
Avatar m tn When I started prophylactic treatment with acyclovir, I saw a reduced occurrence for a few months, then they came back to about 4-5 outbreaks/year. I recently switched prophylactic medication from acyclovir to famciclovir, and had a 18-month period free from outbreak. Come yesterday, I had another terrible outbreak (worse than usual)... will these become more commonplace now? Is this a sign of HSV-resistance to the drug? Are there any other courses of action I can consider?
Avatar f tn They are now drying out but I still have tingling feeling. I visited doctor who suggested possible genital herpes and put me on famciclovir. I'm just wondering how I might have contracted this. I have only ever had one sexual partner for the past twenty years. Is it likely my husband may have cheated. Have had no suspicions of this but very worried. Can the virus really lay dormant for 20 years?

Avatar m tn I recently lost 3 family members and the stress of contracting herpes might put me over the edge. I realize this has probably made me overly paranoid about contracting the virus, however, I'm considering post-exposure prophylaxis with Famciclovir. Is there any reason not to proceed (beyond the fact that it is considered "off-label" and not proven to suppress the virus)?
20830284 tn?1526838532 There are antiviral drugs like acyclovir, valacyclovir and famciclovir which can shorten the episodes and decrease their severity. Acyclovir reduces the pain and number of lesions in the initial case of herpes and reduces recurrence. The ointment applied topically reduces pain, healing time and limits the spread. Though rare, herpes virus can cause inflammation of membranes and the cerebrospinal fluid surrounding your brain and spinal cord." https://www.medhelp.
Avatar m tn You won't spread it that way. Once you have herpes in one area, it's VERY difficult to spread to somewhere else.
Avatar f tn Hi, it could be herpes infection, reactivated due to chemotherapy. This is more so as they are painful lesions. The herpes virus can lie dormant and can get reactivated at intervals producing symptoms. Hence there is no permanent cure. But antiviral medications like acyclovir, valacyclovir and famciclovir are known to shorten outbreaks and improve symptoms. So, please ask her to consult her doctor for medications. Regards.
Avatar f tn I'm interested in learning what helps naturally with keeping herpes at bay as it seems to be worsening for me. I tried the meds 16 years ago and realized they made outbreaks worse for me. I did the lysine pills from then on. My outbreaks would consist of one small lesion. Now I'm experiencing nerve pain in lower back, buttocks and thigh area and at least for lesions in a totally different area of skin than I'm used to. My butt pain is not subsiding.
