Fainting or seizure disorder

Common Questions and Answers about Fainting or seizure disorder

fainting

Avatar f tn I would definitely have an EEG done to see about seizure activity. I have had a seizure disorder for the last 26 years. Most of the time mine were absence seizures. Unless people knew what they were looking for, they had no clue that I was having a seizure.
Avatar f tn Recently during a catch up with family I fainted. Over the previous two hours I had about 4 standard drinks. I had a small meal just before I started drinking. Granted it wasn't a large meal but it was still food. My cousin told me I had a "seizure" when I but I haven't had a chance since then to really talk to him.
Avatar m tn Decreased blood flow to the brain due to heart pump failure, decreased tone in blood vessels or low blood or fluid volume to be pumped. These could be heart rhythm, structural or valvular lesions, postural hypotension, anemia, dehydration and electrolyte imbalance. Consult your physician who would do a battery of blood tests, cardiac evaluation of function and treat the underlying cause.
Avatar n tn People who do have symptoms often exhibit fainting (syncope) and abnormal rate and/or rhythm of the heartbeat (arrhythmia). People with this syndrome may show prolongation of the Q-T interval during physical exercise, intense emotion (such as fright, anger or pain) or when startled by a noise. Some arrhythmias are potentially fatal, causing sudden death. In one type of inherited LQTS, the person may also become deaf. Sorry for the report, but it does require immediate medical attention..

Avatar f tn My 53 year old sister, who has a known seizure disorder, has had two bouts of very low BP, rapid weak pulse, fainting, after riding a bus for 1-1 1/2 hours. She has shown steady deterioration for about 5 years - bowel and bladder incontinence, memory. Her hands are always cold. Has seen several docs and no one seems to be able to help her. I wonder if she is suffering from some sort of autonomic disorder. Which specialty of medicine usually deals with this disorder?
Avatar f tn I used to have fainting/seizure like episodes. It hasn't happened for a while but I still have dizziness, ringing in my ears, and bad headaches every day. I've done MRI's, blood tests, and echocardiograms...which show nothing wrong with me. But one of my doctor's did mention that stress could be a factor. I don't believe that is the whole answer...just a part of it.
Avatar n tn Hi, I never had a history of fainting in the past. I'm 24 years old and was sent to the ER after being found unconscious in my home. I remember bits and pieces of the incident. I wasn't feeling good and decided to take mucinex because i was having chest congestion. An hour in of the night, my chest was pounding, side of my body was numbness, and I remember losing my vision completely. I screamed dad i don't feel...and that is when I collapsed from a sitting position.
Avatar m tn I am struggling with what I understand is the imminent loss of my 15 year old yorkie companion. She had 10 fainting spells.. in one hour .... 8 days ago. Vet put her on phenobarbital immed and she has not had another seizure. He feels she has a brain tumor. after the seizures, she was herself, with no noticeable behavior changes. Since putting her on the pheno, I have watched her deteriorate .. and I have spent hours researching this.
Avatar n tn Clearly a neurological event took place, which seems to have been consistent with a petit mal seizure, etiology unknown. Because he is a diabetic one must not assume that the loss of consciousness is due to his diabetes. Normally anti-seizure medications are not prescribed until the third episode, so at this point you need to have a period of "watchful waiting", and schedule him for a neurological work-up to include an EEG.
Avatar n tn Having a seizure after fainting could either be from Epilepsy or from a heart arrhythmia. Whoever this happened to should be checked out by both a neurologist and a cardiologist to rule out either problem soon.
7282529 tn?1389814190 I had testing done yrs b4 my Chiari DX and I was found to not have ne major seizure disorder,,...but knowing some can be the result of Chiari, I know look back with knowing what was going on all that time . Avatar f tn Neurocardiogenic syncope is usually treated with medications that reduce the probability of cardiac nerves triggering the cycle that leads to lightheadedness, dizziness or fainting. This syndrome is most often treated with a combination of increased salt and water intake along with medications that regulate blood pressure. If you haven't had a tilt test yet, I suggest this as a way to confirm the etiology of your symptoms. Are you currently taking any type of medication?
1472248 tn?1292611095 But when he is playing, he can concetrate for hours on his toys and be very quiet, he even can stay alone, playing with cars or other for hours. At school, in the classroom, he dont make problem or disturbs his mates, he is very sweet, but he cannot concentrate on school tasks always and I feel that somtimes he panic. He told me that he feel that he cannot do a particular work and so, he dont even start or try.
Avatar f tn s around 2000 and was more fainting then throwing up with one time being escalating to a petit mal seizure. Originally, they thought it was neurological... years later they said it was a heart condition. I've had the EEG's, EKG's, MRI's, and a couple others I can't remember the names of... After having a table test, which didn't reveal anything really, the doctor said he thought it was Syncope. However, I've never been officially diagnosed with no real proof.
Avatar f tn My daughter has generalized seizure disorder. She had a seizure in 9th grade (age 15), 11th grade (age 17), and this past August(age 20). Then, this past February she had another one and this finally made us realize that all along her 'fainting' episodes were actually seizures. This last seizure was only 6 months apart from the seizure in August that I mentioned. She is now taking her first medications for the seizure disorder and is extremely tired. She's on 250 mg once at night.
Avatar n tn The second one she had she went into a small seizure shaking, muscles tight, teeth clinched so forth the one 3 months before she doesnt know if she had a seizure or not but felt the same exact way in both smells jaw hurting and really out of it She also has a history of migranes and fainting spells in the past.... Please help!!!!!!
Avatar f tn After I woke up, I discovered I had vomited and lost control of my bowels. Is this ever normal with fainting or is it a sign of something else like siezure? I have had other fainting spells while pregnant but never other symptoms. I am concerned.
Avatar f tn The problem here is that this could be a drop in heart rate or it could be a petit mal seizure. There are a few different seizure activities associated with MS and they are not uncommon. The problem with petit mal (or absence seizures) is that the patient is unaware and after the seizure (postictal) you can get that "I don't feel right and need to sit down" feeling. This is one of those thing I'd say you should talk to your Neuro about.
Avatar f tn Also, epilepsy can be a dangerous illness if left untreated, she might have a fainting spell and seizure whilst driving a car or walking along a busy street and so forth. Also, if she does not have epilepsy, then at the very least her doc needs to find out why she's fainting so much, because that can indicate a heart or circulatory problem of some kind, or could even be because of some medication she's already on for some other health issue.
