390388 tn?1279636213 Hello, Normal range of hemoglobin in males is 14-17g/dl and 12-16 g/dl in females. A low hemoglobin level indicates a low blood red cell count or anemia. Anemia can be due to vitamin or iron deficiencies, acute or chronic bleeding, thyroid diseases, kidney failure or crohn’s disease. In women, it can be due to menstruation. It can also be due to hookworm infestation. Treatment depends on the underlying cause. Get your complete blood count and peripheral smear and stool examination.
Avatar f tn Did you check your hemoglobin level? Sometimes you might be an Anemic. Palpitation and the feeling of fainting is common amongst the people who are Anemic. At the same time if you are not an Anemic, pregnancy too might cause palpitation.
Avatar f tn Fainting 3 times in one hour last Friday. I went dinner and afterwards (within one hour) I felt horrible. I started to feel like I was going to throw up. I ended up fainting 3 times in one hour and went to the ER. They did a CT scan and monitored my heart for about an hour. Nothing was abnormal on those. My white cell count was moderately elevated. They called me yesterday (Sunday) saying my hemoglobin was low and that I needed to get a follow up with a doctor.
Avatar n tn They withdrew my blood, gave me 7 stitches, and gave me some fruit juice. I understand that fainting spells spark release of glycogen stores to get sugar into the bloodstream, so I thought this could have muffled the results. The doctor ordered a glucose random test. So several days later I went in for that. I had eaten a banana about an hour or so before the test. 2 days later I get a result of 124. The doctor is now asking for Hemoglobin A1c.
Avatar n tn I wonder if she has any arrhythmia? You will have to do various things to rule out what is wrong. Did they do an EKG? Getting a 24 hour heart monitor would be good if you can. Then there is the possiblity of iron deficiency. It takes a long time if you take iron pills to get normal again. Did they do a complete blood count? Iron level? Ferritin and B12? Is she bleeding anywhere such as from fibroids?
Avatar f tn It appears from your post that your father has a low hemoglobin count that would cause hypoxia (lack of oxygen in the heart tissues) and syncope (fainting) can be due to that issue.!? LVF is an indication that the left ventricle is not pumping sufficiently (normal is 50 to 70% of the blood received from the lungs. Usually this is due to an impairment of the heart walls to contract with enough force to pump efficiently.
676912 tn?1332812551 That's good! Well not the hemoglobin part. I just got my records from when my doctor did test back last year and my hemoglobin was low but normal. It's a scary thing to see when you had no clue it was so low. Also I was not pregnant during these test. Not so sure why it happens maybe the baby is taking the iron? And there are high possibilities for being the reason you are tired.
Avatar f tn The decision about when to do a transfusion is, to some extent, individualized depending on the situation, what symptoms the person is having (if any), the cause of the low hemoglobin, the rapidity of the drop in hemoglobin, and how low the hemoglobin is. Doctors also differ about how low a hemoglobin can be before the person needs a transfusion. Therefore, an exact number may not tell the entire story.
Avatar f tn I am 21 now and i have been suffering from blackouts/fainting since i was about 14yrs old. At first i was told by my GP that it was hormonal, then that it was something called vagesvagrel syndrome (i think thats how it's spelt). However this last few month i'm still suffering and knew it couldn't still be hormonal, i've had an ECG test done and been told i have an ectopic heart beat but this is not related to my fainting. Do you have any suggestions?
Avatar m tn eat good & healthy food not too spicy consult ur doctor incase of any medicine for ur hemoglobin.
4670047 tn?1375730401 3 is low, but it is not that low for someone on treatment. Mine got as low as 10.2. Many people go into the 8's and 9's, some even into the 7's, on treatment and require Procrit and/or transfusions. They will not give either Procrit or a transfusion for a Hemoglobin of 10.3 because it is not considered low enough to treat with Procrit or transfusions. Usually we get tired with a Hemoglobin of 10 or 10.
Avatar n tn 10) and may have caused the light headedness and fainting as OH has mentioned ,also often it is not actually how low the level goes .but how fast the drop . In other words if you body was adjusting to say 10.8 or thereabouts and then took a relatively quick drop to the 9.3 the sudden adjustment can have this effect. Yes..take it easy and good you are going in to see the doc tommorow. Good luck..
Avatar m tn I am not familiar enough with technical details of blood test to comment beyond the hemoglobin which looks to be low normal (my reference for normal is Euro/American normal ranges). Low hemo could cause some of the symptoms, as could heart functions. Did you doctor do an electrocardiogram to check on your heart? How about you lung breathing, did you get an oxygen saturation level? From my very limited knowledge about cancer I will add I don't relate your symptoms with cancer...
Avatar m tn Over 3 lab test (18months) I have show hemoglobin level at 11.5 to 11.9 on a scale of ref: 13.5-17.5 g/dl. HCV status is cured. Thanks to God and Harvoni. I realize I still have cirrhosis from the HCV. Does other men have low iron? Should I take a one a day with iron like Centrum which has 8 mg? Or, would that just be covering up a problem? Thanks for any input.
Avatar f tn Two months ago I fainted because too much stress and plus my hemoglobin dropped very low to 7.3. I got iron drips and got better. But scared for it to happen again.
Avatar m tn I am 37 yrs & was under severe stress for about last 6 months (which is now over) of late during my medical examination in Feb'12 my hemoglobin was around 12, In month of May'12 it was recorded 16 & now 16.4. During all these months I had developed high uric acid which read as 8.9 for which I have been recommended Furic 40, 1 tab daily (which has reduced pain in my finger joints).
Avatar f tn They could draw a CBC which would tell if hemoglobin and hematocrit were low (indicating anemia) but iron and B12 would have to be drawn separate.
Avatar f tn Generally the fainting is due to anemia or vaso-vagal attack following low blood volume. Please drink plenty of fluids during this time. Get your hemoglobin level checked. Take a good multivitamin for a few months. Consult a gynecologist. Sometimes a hormone therapy is needed to control the painful heavy periods. At times it is due to endometriosis, ovarian cysts or uterine fibroids. In some cases it is hereditary. Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage.
Avatar f tn I think that nobody should be left to fall till their HG is so low. I was that low too and felt horrible. My MD would not listen I kept insisting on starting Procrit which he finally ordered .Meanwhile I felt worse and worse while waitingfor the Procrit to work. Depends on you but I would go for transfusion while you wait for Procrit. That way you will feel better fast and don't have to cut Peg.Good luck, most of these doctors have no idea how we feel and that we also have a life.
Avatar m tn Last month i went to the hospital with what i thought was a ruptured appendix, pain in right side, extreme gas, all that good stuff. The hospital did blood work and everything came back fine except my hemoglobin was low. So they did a ct scan and a dye ct scan and checked my urine and stool for blood, all of which came back fine. They told me it was gas and sent me on my way.
Avatar n tn It is a condition that results from below-normal levels of hemoglobin in the red blood cells. Hemoglobin is the iron-containing pigment of the red blood cells that carries oxygen from the lungs to the tissues. There are many different kinds of anemia, each with its own cause. For example, a poor diet can cause anemia. The more severe types of this condition are often inherited. next.. To understand why anemia occurs, it's important to understand the function of blood itself.
Avatar f tn I use to have fainting spells. It is normal to get light headed when you go from a sitting to standing positon, but to pass out regularly isn't normal. You may be dehydrated, or you may be anemic if you are female, especially if you have heavy cycles. This is just my 2 cents based on my previous experience, but I would go to a GYN doc or your family doctor and ask them to check your Hemoglobin, which is the component of the red blood cells that deliver oxygen to the body.
