5426152 tn?1382129604 My doctor mentioned that she will do a pap smear during this check up. Is it normal and safe to have one done during pregnancy? I am in my first trimester and really nervous. I had a vaginal ultrasound a few weeks ago and had spotting after. I am worried a pap smear will also cause me to bleed. Should I request my doctor wait until after I give birth to do the pap smear or is there a reason for doing one now?
Avatar f tn For those who know what they can request and deny...the pap smear during pregnancy is to check for strep B which can be spread to baby during vaginal birth. You do not have to get a pap done early in pregnancy like may drs like to do. you can request that a pap be done later while in the 3rd trimester. If you are having a c-section there is no need to have one done at all until after you are back to normal menstrual cycles.
Avatar f tn For about half a year now I've been getting a burning feeling during intercourse, sometimes its realty bad and sometimes its not, same thing when I go urinate afterwards too. I've been with 3 guys n I'm with the third one now. The first one and my bf now r clean, I'm not sure about that second one. I don't think I'm allergic to my bf bc this didn't happen at first. It mostly burn on the outside and right by the opening, but also a few spots on the inside.
1632323 tn?1425010283 The ideal time to have a Pap smear is 10 to 20 days after the start of your last period. Ideally, you should never schedule a Pap during your period. Menstrual blood and fluid can make abnormal cells difficult to detect, possibly causing an inaccurate result. You may be able to get a Pap test if the flow is light. Dont Give up on the Clomid . Just stay positive and relax :))) I Know its hard but just relax and It will hopefully work sending you positive thoughts.
1446228 tn?1330968686 If it has been awhile (more than 6 months) you should expect to have a pap smear. You can always call and ask the receptionist if it is common practice to have a pap smear the first visit to prepare yourself.
Avatar n tn Years ago during a normal pap smear appointment (when I had all of my body parts) the doctor said that sadly women think that after a hysterectomy they don't need a pap smear. Her concern was Vaginal cancer (not as common but something to be vigilant about checking). I have a pap smear once a year since my radical hysterectomy. I have heard a recommendation of two years, too. I had everything removed in 2000.
Avatar n tn thanks, i've arranged for a pap smear after my periods which i'm expecting in two days. i haven't had any unprotected sex in 3 years but i'm very frightened of cervical cancer.
Avatar f tn =( I took her to see a dr (well ended up seeing a PA) she did a urine test, a pap (which was her first and it was extremely painful during and after) and she had an abdominal sonogram done on her. My daughter also explained to the PA that she also had discharge which was a thick white substance and had an odor to it, also said she saw two bumps on the outside of her vaginal area which were very painful espically when she sits, gets up and down or wears jeans.
Avatar f tn Nope it's safe to get a pap smear....actually it's probably really good to get one while TTC just in case any problems pop up. And think of it this way if you get pregnant soon you may not have to have another one repeated when you are pregnant. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I had a pap smear which I tried to avoid since I had one done in the last 5months, but thy said I needed to get it done. Now I haven't been feeling good I hv a lot of abdomin pain cramping I hope this doesn't effect my pregnancy. I had it done 2 days ago since that night I hsvent been feeling good.
Avatar f tn s very normal to spot after a pap smear, your cervix is more sensitive during pregnancy, so after an internal exam, pap smear, sex, etc, it's normal to spot. I had bright red spotting after a pap smear at the beginning of my pregnancy, don't stress, you'll be fine!
Avatar n tn I know a pap can be normal and you can still have HPV, and a pap can be abnormal and you may not have HPV. So how do they KNOW that I have HPV?
Avatar f tn I have never had a pap smear before, honestly I never thought of getting a pap smear until last year after I was raped. Now I am scared to death of getting a pap smear because of the exam i was given right after the rape,it hurt so bad then that everytime I think about getting a pap smear now, I think about how bad the pain was. I have been advised by a few doctors and my therapist to get one but i'm so terrified of getting one.
1299140 tn?1317262195 During pregnancy, it is likely that your health care provider will want to do a pap smear. A pap smear is considered routine for a pregnant woman. A pap smear does not create any risks to you or to your fetus. If your pap smear comes back with an abnormal result during pregnancy, your health care provider will probably discuss possible treatment options that are safe for you during pregnancy, or discuss the possibility of delaying any treatments until after you have your baby.
Avatar f tn I've never bled from a pap smear.. ever! cramping could just be from everything stretching/moving around in there, but definitely talk it over with your OB so they can check everything out. the pap smear is just where they "swab" the inside of your vagina - this will test for std's & stuff, and it can detect any change in your cervical cells. they do it right at the top of your vagina, so it's not painful.. uncomfortable maybe, but not painful.
Avatar m tn Anyway, cancer at a stage that would cause bleeding would be visually obvious and would not require a pap smear to diagnose.) I would tend to agree that trauma during sex seems unlikely; it's hard for me to imagine a cut or abrasion (either of the external genitals or inside) that could explain bleeding and yet not be obvious to the woman herself or her doctor. Beyond those thoughts, I really can't help.
Avatar f tn Yes I've had one with all four of my pregnancies. It's pretty standard in most offices .
Avatar m tn Yes, doctors do insert fingers into the vagina during the exam often after the metal speculum part of the exam. That is standard. They then use the other hand and gently press on your abdomen usually too. They are feeling for abnormalities with your ovaries. So, yes. I'd say this is normal. Most docs still have two people in the room, the doctor and a nurse during the exam.
Avatar f tn Yup, I was overdue for a pap and had a history of abnormal papa followed by normal before having a pap done at my first prenatal apt. It's routine to have it done in early pregnancy especially if u haven't gotten one in a while. No worries..
Avatar n tn Certainly I would NOT try to biopsy the endocervical canal in a pregnant patient. A repeat pap however may be able to obtain some endocervical cells so that you can get a better, more reassuring reading. Dyskarytosis itself is not pre-cancerous, and if you were my patient, I would not be terribly worried. After you delivery your baby, it will be much easier to evaluate your cervix, and the healing process that occurs afterwards often clears up abnormal cells too.
Avatar f tn m nervous for my Pap smear and since I will most likely be on my period during what will happen? Will it get moved to a different date or will they continue anyways? Like I said this is my first Pap smear so I'm already uncomfortable with it and putting my period on top of that? Oh joy. Please help! And thanks!
Avatar m tn In 2013, we had the same result. Now, in 2014, a couple of weeks ago, after a pap smear we were informed again that the smear was fine and after reviewing the results online ourselves we could see that it said Pap WNL, HPV Negative. I was feeling very relieved but stunned that no one from the Dr.'s office had let us know this and it seemed like the Dr. was less than convinced. The office said they like to see two consecutive yearly negative results. My questions then are: 1.
