Avatar f tn When his blood was drawn today, however, he was apparently so tense and nervous that the nurse had to draw blood from both his arms to get enough for testing. The nurse asked throughout and afterward if he needed to lie down, but he declined because the worst was over and he thought he'd done well.
Avatar n tn I would ask her doctor and see if he will perform an A1c test, that is just a simple blood draw that sees what the sugar levels have been doing for the last 3 months. He probably should also do some other blood work such as a CBC and SMAC to make sure there are no other issues. I hope she feels better soon.
Avatar f tn What are some reasons a blood draw would hurt? The nurse pierced my skin and it hurt very bad. Also, my arms was bleeding a lot at the puncture site.
Avatar n tn She was not able to draw blood with that needle so she took out a new one and tried again. With that she still wasn't able so she called in anoher nurse to try and that nurse succeeded but with a butterfly attached to a syringe. My question is , do you think it was ok that the butterfly needle was already out of the package. Is this a standard to set up and unpackage without the patient? Also why was there no tube holder ?
Avatar m tn Hello. I had what I consider would be a rather scary blood draw. I have had HIV anxiety and this test was supposed to help me with that (tested neg). I have also posted in the anxiety forum, but thought this would be more specific. The phlebotomist used a vacutainer/straight needle (not sure if new). She tied a tourniquet real tight and swabbed. Then she inserted the needle followed by a vacutainer, and nothing! She removed needle and discarded the vacutainer (not the needle).
Avatar n tn It is not uncommon to feint when a trochar is inserted into a vein for a blood draw. The best thing to do is to close your eyes and look the other way. Some people are more sensitive to this than others. Do not be overly concerned. It is hard to find a vein sometimes, even for an experienced nurse, and as they poke around, the sensations can be extraordinarily painful.
Avatar f tn The nurse can draw blood at the same time but into separate vials to test what the doctor orders. The doctor may order a glucose test to find out if your daughter has diabetes. Ensure that your daughter eats regular meals and healthy snacks in between (fruit or veg). Cut out or cut down on very refined foods, biscuits, chocolates, white bread, fizzy drinks etc. Dark green vegetables, kidney and liver contain lots of iron. If she sticks to a healthy diet that will help.
Avatar n tn To find out if these are issues for you, go to the doc and have them draw blood to check for anemia, and the doc should also listen to your heart, check your pulse and blood pressure, and run an EKG tape for you. There's also a possibility you're getting dehydrated, which will make you fall over. Drink extra water daily, like every time you brush your teeth, gulp down a couple extra glasses.
Avatar n tn I think I had a low/no risk exposure but I would like to get some outside opinions A few days ago I went to have some blood work done -- when I got to the clinin they had forgotten about my appointment and no one was in the blood draw room (the lights werent even on) the woman at the front had to call and eventaully a clinician walked by who said he could do my draw.
Avatar m tn I got tested on march 9/ 2013 for HIV , standard antibody test at a doctors office/ medical clinic. The last time i had any kind of sexual contact before this date was over 3 months ago, i do not do drugs or engage in msm. I was very worried at this time and didn't want to wait for results which could take 2 weeks, so i got a POTC rapid blood test, which was negative. Recently, i have been thinking about the blood draw incident.
Avatar f tn The blood is taken out and not injected inside you while drawing blood. Dont complicate things .if there was blood in the syringe you might have known rite?and most of the labs use new syringes for drawing blood. Please move on!!!!
Avatar m tn I did not see the nurse use a fresh needle. Is it safe to get a blood draw, are standard precautions always used . is it possible to reuse a contaminated needle by accident to draw blood. the nurse seemed to proficient but she was harried and preoccupied. Could you please allay my fears on this one. Any risk of hiv infection.
Avatar f tn My fear is that the needle That was used to draw my blood was contaminated or reused from a HIV positive person. I have been with the same girl for nearly 18 months and engage in no other risky behaviors. My fear is this was the only way I've been exposed by blood draw. Is this even possible even if gross mistake was made? To relieve my anxiety I just took single antibody test 47 days post blood draw so nearly 7 weeks. What is the realiabilty of the results in my case.
Avatar m tn , but please answer my question kindly..,what type of blood draw is this..?and if the needle as infected blood in it..will i contract the virus..?
Avatar f tn Sorry, if there was blood from the poke thst I couldn't see and she used the same finger to find my vein. Is there an exposure risk?
