Common Questions and Answers about Fainting and shortness of breath

fainting

Avatar n tn angela ~ Yikes! I taught again today and same thing...I'm talking and talking and then, yep, shortness of breath. What scares me is that in my first pregnancy, the shortness of breath led to dizziness and fainting as I got further along. (I had m/c so I don't know how long it would have lasted). I really hope the dizziness/fainting don't re-occur this time around. Especially when I'm teaching! They're all drama students and they would love it if their teacher fainted.
Avatar m tn There are grades to this symptom, like Shortness of breath with exercise, Shortness of breath with walking two blocks or Shortness of breath with rest. The respiratory rate is also increased in the process. If troublesome consult your doctor to rule out cardiac or lung disorders. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

2053975 tn?1343405733 t for a few weeks out of breath is fine and dizzy is from the shortness of breath and is actually pretty common in pregnancy. They say it is really nothing to be concerned about unless it is making it hard for you to function or you are fainting from it. I personally have this problem as well and if I need to just sit until I feel able to continue what it is I'm doing.
Avatar f tn I would get pre-syncope (which is right before fainting) and short of breath, and found out I had heart issues...I found out in May, and had a defibrillator put in on July 25th.

Avatar n tn If it is after, you could be scaring yourself into thinking you are about to faint. Same thing with the shortness of breath. Definitely go to the doc and get checked out. Once you are given the all clear, you can just let it thump. Easier said than done! I hope everything works out.
Avatar f tn If it is anxiety or phsysical exertion, the stress can be damaging to the heart cells by decreasing blood/oxygen to heart cells, and that would be the cause of chest pain (angina) and shortness of breath. If you have a heart problem, you would want to control anxiety. Its good advice to see a doctor.
Avatar n tn After about 4 weeks, these symptoms disappeared and did not reappear until a year later (6 months postpartum). In addition to a great deal of shortness of breath and fatigue, I also began to experience significant heart palpitations, extreme lightheadedness and near fainting spells. On one occasion, I went to the ER and 1 1/2 hours after I was laying on the floor, my heart rate on the EKG was only 40 bpm.
Avatar n tn I have had symptoms of a resting heart rate of 99-140, chest and back pain - sharp and squeezing pressure, pressure in my chest, back and left arm, migraines, dizziness, fainting, large dips in blood pressure, nausea, sweating, and shortness of breath. I am on disopyramide 300 mg per day and still symptomatic. I had 3 echos done and 3 xrays to confirm.
Avatar f tn The first few days i was in the pain was that bad i had to have morphine. The pain and shortness of breath is mainly on exertion and the dr suggested angina and am on many tablets. I am slowly getting worse and can only walk 200 yds without stopping. But as its not a definitive diagnosis im stumped. Ive only had ecgs done and blood tests. few ocasions the troponin level was raised and ecg have been abnormal. No one seems to have any answers.
Avatar f tn Surprisingly enough, I talked to my sister after my hospital visit, and she experienced the same exact thing and got no diagnosis. This shortness of breath is so frustrating. Anybody have this and actually get a diagnosis or solution!?
Avatar f tn most of the time i feel dizzy and i check my blood preasure and my sugar levels and they are all ok what could be happening!)??? im 33 weeks along!
Avatar n tn I cannot hold my breath at all anymore, with going into a headrush and fainting (and, when I do get these near fainting, and start breathing again, I feel very nauseated as my heart begins pounding away in my chest and abdomen again)
Avatar f tn Only a doctor can tell you the cause of the PVCs. But if it makes you feel any better, many of us on here experience PVCs on a regular basis and our hearts are normal. The causes vary, but many times it's benign. Alot of it depends on whether you have other issues (shortness of breath, fainting, weakness, etc). Good luck!
Avatar f tn The most common symptom of a pulmonary embolism is shortness of breath. This may be gradual or sudden. If you experience sudden shortness of breath, you should seek medical attention immediately.
Avatar m tn Some years back, after some strength training exercises, I came down with many symptoms of heart failure like shortness of breath, fatigue, and an elavated bilirubin level. However, my earlier skipping heart beats had vanished. After stopping strength training and starting 40 minute walks, the heart failure symptoms disappeared, but instead I started getting NSVT episodes. My question is: why this odd disassociation between heart failure and NSVT when there ought to be a corelation?
Avatar n tn Interesting I will be going to see a cardiologist soon...as of now my health is just showing near faint, dizzy, shortness of breath and heart cramps...will the cardiologist find an answer or what you people think it could be and what can I do to fix it?
Avatar m tn In addition to the numbness, and to make matters worse, she began having body tremors followed by the inability to move or speak, blackouts, and shortness of breath. She always regains movement and the ability to speak within an hour. Initially, doctors insisted that the depo shot had nothing to do with her symptoms, and all symptoms eventually went away completely. She received a second depo shot on 12/21/15.
Avatar f tn Left side heart failure produces symptoms of shortness of breath, cough, fatigue, dizziness, numbness, confusion and is very serious. Right side heart failure produces symptoms of water retention in the legs and abdomen. The echocardiogram which is the ultrasound does not always show everything. An angiogram will show what the problem is. If the problem is an clogged artery, they can put stents in, which is not that bad of a procedure and you will feel a ton better.
Avatar f tn I have been having episodes of chest pressure and shortness of breath on and off for several years, it has always been blamed on my thyroid (hypo), and have lots of periods of bradycardia (my heart rate is 54-60) but this week I was hospitalized overnight twice for chest pressure, dizziness, nausea, and sever shortness of breath. My vitals are ok, all except my heart rate that would go from 120 (resting) to normal than to 46 then to normal augh!
1098952 tn?1270309713 Shortness of breath, angina (chest pain), fainting may occur, and palpitations or changes in the rhythm of heart, may feel like a rapid heartbeat, a skipped or extra heartbeat, or just an uncomfortable awareness of one's heartbeat. Palpitations can be associated with sweating or lightheadedness. Have you been diagnosed with hypertrophy cardiomyopathy?
Avatar n tn The dull pain with each heartbeat is a most unusual symptom. Awareness of one's heartbeat is another matter, and is common. The awareness is most commonly of a pulse in the chest or the ear; the latter, especially at night when one is having trouble falling asleep. It can be accompanied by a vague sensation of discomfort which, with anxiety, could be interpreted by an individual as pain.
Avatar m tn Fainting, near fainting, dizziness, lack of energy, fatigue, shortness of breath and exercise intolerance. Extreme slowing or complete stopping of the heartbeat can be fatal. In other cases, people may have no symptoms but are at high risk for dangerously slow heart rates because of disturbances of the electrical system of the heart. A pacemaker may be recommended for these people before symptoms occur. There are no electrical disturbance shown with your post?!
Avatar m tn but fainting episodes are far more dangerous to me (severly sprained neck, contusions, concussions, frontal lobe brain damage, sprained wrists etc) lightheadedness, dizziness, weakness, pounding chest or chest pains, fatigue then I get a burning hot feeling all over and then chills, horrendous headache and blurred vision, sometimes vertigo, shortness of breath and nausea happens with it; yet other times none at all just dizziness I have a mixed brew of symptoms and conditions (check my profil
18882608 tn?1469240608 The continuous or sudden drop in blood pressure causes a shortness of oxygen to the brain what again causes the light headedness and vision loss. It also can cause the shortness of breath. In reaction to this the heart rate increases to compensate for these symptoms. This is all annoying but normally not dangerous it itself. A lot of heart patients experience the same as a side effect of their medication.
Avatar n tn My fingers and toes began to tingle, followed by numbness in my hands and feet and then numbness in my arms and legs. I had shortness of breath. Could all of this be brought on by a hot flash? If so, can hot flashes be brought on by stress? This is the third time it has happened and it's scary - especially while driving. I have recently been to a doctor for head and chest congestion and my EKG, breathing tests, and lung xrays were good, although I have had shortness of breath lately.
Avatar n tn I had severe shortness of breath and other symptoms due to severe bradypnea. At my worst, breathing dropped down to 6 breaths a minute. Bradypnea is my worst symptom of hypothyroidism. Bradypnea can lead to hypoxemia (low oxygen) and hypercapnia (high carbon dioxide). I had a false normal pulse oximeter (a sensor device placed on the fingertip) reading due to high carbon dioxide in the blood. Excerpt from Respiratory function in thyroid disease...
