Fainting and shortness of breath

Common Questions and Answers about Fainting and shortness of breath

fainting

I would get pre-syncope (which is right before fainting) and short of breath, and found out I had heart issues...I found out in May, and had a defibrillator put in on July 25th.
Also I would like to mention that I suffer from severe migraines since the birth of my first child 5 years ago, and just before migraines my feet and hand swell up, and feel like my heart is beating faster then usual. During my fainting episode a week ago I was duing my normal morning rutine, and when I went to the bathroom to fix my hair I suddenly had a heatwave, I was soaking in sweat within seconds and my heart wanted to jump out of my chest.
If it's not that I don't know what it might be. Do you have ringing in your head? Any shortness of breath? Heartbeat rapid at times when you are out of breath? Let me know - those are signs of anemia too.
About 6 months ago I started having severe shortness of breath, but no wheezing and chest pain that was unlike any of my asthma symtoms. I was hospitalized twice and the diagnosis was asthma but I insisted that this was not like the asthma I have experience for at least 50 years of my life.
There are grades to this symptom, like Shortness of breath with exercise, Shortness of breath with walking two blocks or Shortness of breath with rest. The respiratory rate is also increased in the process. If troublesome consult your doctor to rule out cardiac or lung disorders. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
angela ~ Yikes! I taught again today and same thing...I'm talking and talking and then, yep, shortness of breath. What scares me is that in my first pregnancy, the shortness of breath led to dizziness and fainting as I got further along. (I had m/c so I don't know how long it would have lasted). I really hope the dizziness/fainting don't re-occur this time around. Especially when I'm teaching! They're all drama students and they would love it if their teacher fainted.

Hi, I just did shot #20 tonight and I'm also 2B. In the beginning of tx I had the shortness of breath and thought it was the meds but it turned out that my HGB was dropping and the dr put me on procrit. It kept dropping and they upped the procrit to 60,000 units a week. Now finally my HGB stopped dropping and is holding at 7.4 which is low but I feel fine. I would have your HGB checked to rule that out.
Forget it - I figured out that is is shortness of breath after reading the title. I'm a bit slow today - let's just say even slower today.
Secondly, exertional shortness of breath in and of itself can be a separate symptom of OI and/or POTS. I hope that answers your question.
Surprisingly enough, I talked to my sister after my hospital visit, and she experienced the same exact thing and got no diagnosis. This shortness of breath is so frustrating. Anybody have this and actually get a diagnosis or solution!?
If it is anxiety or phsysical exertion, the stress can be damaging to the heart cells by decreasing blood/oxygen to heart cells, and that would be the cause of chest pain (angina) and shortness of breath. If you have a heart problem, you would want to control anxiety. Its good advice to see a doctor.
The first few days i was in the pain was that bad i had to have morphine. The pain and shortness of breath is mainly on exertion and the dr suggested angina and am on many tablets. I am slowly getting worse and can only walk 200 yds without stopping. But as its not a definitive diagnosis im stumped. Ive only had ecgs done and blood tests. few ocasions the troponin level was raised and ecg have been abnormal. No one seems to have any answers.
Sometimes I'd go a couple of weeks when it was really bad, having chest pains and the same exact shortness of breath you described, and I'd end up in the hospital or urgent care getting checked. I thought it was my heart (for which ECG was normal) asthma flaring up, but nothing seemed to help (inhalers, neb treatments, nothing!) until I tried a temporary anti-anxiety treatment -- for me it was a low dose of Xanax for a few days. That cleared it up almost right away.
I am 37 years old and I went to the ER one year ago in December for shortness of breath and of course was told it was anxiety. I have had anxiety most of my adult life and knew that was not what it was. I had a CT scan of my lungs, chest xray, EKG, nuclear stress test, PFT, labs and all said I was as healthy as a horse, couldn't find anything wrong other than being a little overweight. I have also attended sleep clinic because my Dr.
Hi, The gastrointestinal cause for shortness of breath, feeling of lump in the throat and difficult to swallow is GERD. This can be confirmed with upper GI endoscopy and 24 hours pH monitoring. Since you have panic attacks also, I feel all your symptoms could be functional and an anxiolytic may be beneficial. Consult your doctor for complete evaluation before it could be called functional.
It seemed that during periods of intense training, the shortness of breath was worse. I often felt like I was suffocating even during every day life. There was even one time in particular I woke up in the middle of the night feeling like I couldn't breathe while experiencing heart palpitations at the same time. The shortness of breath gets worse during exercise.
Now, how would that cause shortness of breath? Before there can be shortness of breath the hempdynamic system needs to be compromised...What mechanism or etiogenical significance is being relied on to produce SOB with a normal generated pulse from a pacemaker? If mother's pulse wasn't normal, then there could be pacemaker problem.
In the past few months I have been experiencing a chest tightning or like a soreness that goes from my back to the front of my ribs. I also experience shortness of breath and sometimes feel like i can't breath correctly or when i yawn i can't quite finish it. I also sometimes have this weird feeling in my chest and throat like a bubble popping or like my heart is jumping in my chest and it kinda feels like my chest sinking for like a second, it is just a really weird feeling and scares me.
I had been fainting at least once a year since 2009, as of recent two year it had more frequent intervals of very alterate months or once every 2-4 months - my abdominal will always receive sharp pain or uncomfortable pain before it goes away and I would start feeling weak and sudden shortness of breath and cold sweat would start breaking out before my sight gets blurry..
After about 4 weeks, these symptoms disappeared and did not reappear until a year later (6 months postpartum). In addition to a great deal of shortness of breath and fatigue, I also began to experience significant heart palpitations, extreme lightheadedness and near fainting spells. On one occasion, I went to the ER and 1 1/2 hours after I was laying on the floor, my heart rate on the EKG was only 40 bpm.
as of now my health is just showing near faint, dizzy, shortness of breath and heart cramps...will the cardiologist find an answer or what you people think it could be and what can I do to fix it?

I read up on Magnezium defficiency - it explained most of my symptoms (panic, shortness of breath, extreme weakness) but it didn't say anything about sleep fainting. The magnezium has helped me a little but I'm sill not quite back to my self. You sould think about magnezium.
most of the time i feel dizzy and i check my blood preasure and my sugar levels and they are all ok what could be happening!)??? im 33 weeks along!
The baby is getting big but you probably still haven't dropped yet and won't for a few weeks out of breath is fine and dizzy is from the shortness of breath and is actually pretty common in pregnancy. They say it is really nothing to be concerned about unless it is making it hard for you to function or you are fainting from it. I personally have this problem as well and if I need to just sit until I feel able to continue what it is I'm doing.

I went to the ER four times due to shortness of breath, which usually (at first) got in the evenings, and would feel like I had insufficient oxygen for about 6-10 hours at a time. I saw many, many doctors. I went to an executive medicine place where I paid thousands of dollars to have every test concievable done. This included heart thalium tests, cat scans, MRI's, blood work, etc.
I am a 19 years old female and I have migraines with aura, and I've had them since I was 14 years old. Recently I've started having fainting spells with black outs, loss of hearing, shortness of breath, tunnel vision and severe SEVERE dizziness. The first time i fainted, i couldn't hear anything and my vision got blurry, hit my head hard on the desk as I fell while getting out of bed to get some water. Two days later, I had a migraine episode, the worst ever.
