Avatar n tn Hello, I cannot confirm anything without examination but it might be due to chloasma of pregnancy. It is a tan or dark facial skin discoloration. Although it can affect anyone, melasma is particularly common in women, especially pregnant women and those who are taking oral or patch contraceptives or hormone replacement therapy (HRT). The treatment includes various skin creams like hydroquinone, azelaic acid, corticosteroids, tretinoin cream and laser treatment.
Avatar n tn Hi, Postinflammatory hyperpigmentation, or PIH, is the medical term given to discoloration of the skin that follows a wound, rash, pimple, or other stimuli which causes skin inflammation. This causes the skin to produce too much melanin. which darkens and discolors the wounded area. This discoloration remains even after the wound or rash has healed. PIH is very common among acne sufferers. It can occur in all skin types, although it is more common in darker skin tones.
Avatar n tn I am African American, and I have heard that using hydroquinone products to lighten skin discoloration causes a rebound effect and darkens the skin even more. I would like to know what I can safely use to return my skin back to its original skin tone. This discussion is related to Complex Hyperpigmentation Problems.
Avatar f tn The treatments vary from melanin blocking agents combined with topical medications such as Retin A which causes the body to exfoliate the skin to rid the body of the hyperpigmentation while prohibiting new melanin production to laser treatments. The treatments wholly depend upon your needs and skin type. For standard non-hormone induced hyperpigmentations Hydroquinone usually reduces or removes hyperpigmentations very effectively. It is a bleaching agent.
Avatar m tn I have always wondered what causes the darkening in facial area ranging from the temple area to the cheek bone area. It's not uncommon among African-Americans and some darker complexioned people. Does it have anything to do with high blood pressure or some other underlying ailment. Anecdotally, I am aware of many who have had heart attacks and strokes. Has there ever been any studies in the past?
Avatar n tn Hello, In children it is common to find pityriasis alba instead of pityriasis versicolor for facial discoloration. Pityriasis alba is a common skin condition mostly occurring in children and usually seen as dry, fine-scaled, pale patches on the face. No treatment is required and the patches in time will settle in due course of time. The redness, scale and itch if present may be managed with simple emollients and sometimes hydrocortisone, a weak steroid, is also used.
Avatar f tn Do you mean dirty as in you have a different pigment to your lower torso half? Some discoloration will be natural depending on your skin tone. Are you Mizrahi or Arab? If so, this is pretty natural and any partners shouldn't be bothered by it. I know that hydroquinone, if used consistently for 3 months, can help for facial hyperpigmentation. I would recommend consulting a dermatologist and asking whether it would help and is safe for nether regions.

Avatar n tn Dear myjosiejones, Skin on the breast like skin on other areas of the body is subject to various conditions including discoloration. Without ability to see and evaluate it is difficult to say what this is. An area of skin discoloration is not a usual sign associated with breast cancer.
Avatar f tn Direct physical examination and skin biopsy may be done to rule out other causes of pigment loss and presence of fungal infection. A wood's lamp may also help. Take care and do keep us posted.
1333173 tn?1275444668 Ok.. So I am beyond trying to get anwsers on this facial discoloration I have.. hopefully someone got shed some light on all of this. About 1 year ago I noticed I had about a half dollar size of white spot only on one cheek. I have seen three different dermatologist that have all told me separate things. Basically, the spot has grown and no starts a lower lobe of ear level and swoops down along with the chin line and turn near mouth to the top of ear to make a BIG oval shape.
Avatar n tn my facial skin seems to slightly wink uncontrollably around my left eye, what does it indicate? is there something top worry about?
Avatar m tn Since you have a history of psoriasis, so definitely it needs to be ruled out. Psoriasis is a long-term skin problem that causes skin cells to grow too quickly, resulting in thick, white, silvery, or red patches of skin. It is thought that psoriasis occurs when the immune system overreacts, causing inflammation and flaking of skin. My sincere advice would be to consult a dermatologist. I hope that helps.
Avatar n tn Blood leaks out of the vessels and causes discoloration of the skin. When the body reabsorbs the blood, the purple mark begins to disappear. Bruises usually go away on their own. However, it is uncommon that the discoloration or bruise affect other areas not affected by the fall as well, such as in the case of your father. I would recommend that you have this evaluated by a doctor and imaging studies such as xray be done to rule out any fracture or other causes. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn Allergies are a great place to start, but I agree it can be time consuming and frustrating to stick to a novel protein elimination diet to figure out exactly what is causing the allergies. That is a common enough reason for skin discoloration, but since you don't mention any other symptoms like itchy and scaly skin, the problem is perplexing. The only other thing I can think of is hypothyroidism (low thyroid) but I think that causes overall discoloration instead of patches.
Avatar m tn hi, A fungal infection would have caused some amount of discoloration of the skin, but steroid use can cause alterations in skin color especially if the area is exposed to the sun. As this seems to be an unlikely cause for the discoloration, the problem could be due to the infection. Steroids cause loosening of the skin and have been prescribed for topical use in reducing or relieving symptoms of phimosis (where the foreskin remains tight around the glans).
Avatar n tn It sometimes itches and acne washes, etc. just seem to dry out my skin. Several esthiticians have said that it could be a bacterial infection or fungus. What specific infections could it be and is Grapefruit Seed Extract a good start to lessening the discoloration?
Avatar n tn Hello, Please elaborate on the discoloration whether it is hyperpigemnted( dark) or hypopigmented( light). Causes and treatment options for both are different. If it is hyperpigmentation, then fixed drug eruption needs to be ruled out. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
