Common Questions and Answers about Face rash lupus

rash

Avatar m tn However, from the description given by you, it seems you might be having an autoimmune skin condition called Discoid lupus erythematosus, that causes a red, raised rash on the face and scalp. Around 1–5% of these cases develop into Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). In discoid lupus, only the skin is typically involved. The rash is usually red and may have raised borders. It is usually painless and does not itch.
1319928 tn?1274347872 The dry eyes and mouth sound like sjorgen's. Eye drops and lots of fluids will help. Some people also keep some hard candies handy to suck on. I have also been diagnosed with lupus, but I don't have the rash. My face will get red, but not the raised rash. I know how you are feeling. It took me 8 years to get a dx. Most drs just gave up and said they didn't know. I haven't been able to get a handle on my symptoms yet.
Avatar n tn My wife developed this red rash on her on her face mostly on her cheeks and nose about six to eight months ago. At first we thought it was acne but no acne treatment helped. Our dermatologist doesn't know what it is. It happened about the same time she had her ears pierced. The backs of her ears have been swollen and red and she has a rash down the side of her neck starting from the base of her ears. She also says that her neck is itchy.
Avatar m tn No it goes from under her nose to her chin, not on her cheeks.
Avatar n tn t been diagnosed with lupus but my butterfly rash has been very persistent the last 6 months or so. no swelling but I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia so pain is a constant part of my life as well as chronic fatigue.
2183922 tn?1340289260 It may not be high enough for the doctor to call you positive for Lupus. But did they biopsy your face rash? You may have discoid lupus or systemic. Did they do a RA test and anti DNA? You can ask the doctor about those too. They usually are all positive for Lupus. The homogeneous pattern is typical of Lupus too but other things can cause a positive ANA. If your doctor is not a specialist in Lupus I would get a good rheumatologist this is.
Avatar n tn This sounds like Lupus. In fact, it sounds EXACTLY like Lupus, which is another autoimmune disease. The butterfly rash is characteristic of this disease. So is hair loss and dry, flaky skin. I would contact a doctor ASAP and get this checked out.
647391 tn?1275016633 What I am wondering is it possible that I would now test positive for Lupus. What I have read on rashes that a lupus rash can show up on the face, neck, or chest. I almost want to go right now and have it checked out to see what a doctor thinks. Easier to show then describe what the rash looks like. What kind of information can you provide me that would be helpful in figuring out what is going on with me.
237053 tn?1258828426 Hi, No my mouth problems isn't thrush. I'm not on any medication right now. I am hoping lupus would've been caught from all the blood work. I don't have the rash on my face, or sensitivity to sun or anything...it's just kinda scary.
Avatar m tn t think anything of it then in 2005 had another flare that was more intense this time. Rash to face more pronounced on one side with facial edema. Rash was painful, burning, and raised. Went to a new PCP who thougth I might have Lupus. I had a positive ANA, and higher sed rate but subsequent tests for Lupus were negative. Again resolved on it's own w/o medication. Then last month I had my worst flare, but it was gone within a week.
Avatar n tn s disease was almost 2 months ago. The rash is definately worse in the sun but also seems to get worse when she is very warm. The rash is itchy and burns when I put sunscreen on her. Our dermatologist perscribed a topical steroid which seemed to make the rash worse and spread. I have many autoimmune issues and am very concerned this could be something like lupus. We return to the Dr. in 2 weeks.
Avatar n tn ve been managing it (still rash every week or 2) using ketacoazale once i see a rash coming and washing my face lightly with both salicylic acid and head and shoulders when i take a shower. Usually the reason has been stress, but i've recently noticed it coming up when having absolutely no stress. I suspect it has to do with my new job location (3 miles from beach) where the humidity it higher than where i live. Anyway how can i protect myself from these disgusting looking rashes on my face.
Avatar f tn It sounds like your rash is classic lupus. Lupus runs in my family and my cousin often got a rash across her nose and down her cheeks. Have they tested you for lupus (whose symptoms also include severe fatigue)? Just a thought....
Avatar n tn Rosacea sometimes reacts to acidic foods. Do you eat a lot of tomatoes, peppers, soda, coffee, alcohol? Lupus can similarly react badly to foods so it's not a guaranteed thing. Scarlet fever usually comes with the high fever and doesn't go away, usually gets worse and develops into a full body rash also a doctor should have seen it spot on. Kind of hard to miss. Fifths disease can give you that "slapped" face look. That's actually distinctive of it.
Avatar f tn my mom has lupus but it only flares up when she is pregnant she said that this rash on my face and neck could this... and next Dr appointment is on the 20th I get to have lab work done and my mom is going go ask to test for it to but until then what can I do?
Avatar f tn I have CFS since 1998. But the Rheumy is thinking I have lupus and the rash on my face looks like a lupus and not rosacea. He definitely said the rash is a connective tissue rash. I also have it on my neck and chest. But this is the tricky question? If you have the malar rash then it spares the folds between the nose and cheeks. Mine does not spare the folds but even my husband was mentioning and you can see it on my face that it has the butterfly wings shape.
Avatar f tn a results, butterfly rash on face - those are the distinguishing factors, as well as all the other ailments, for lupus. I would take you off of the poster for Lyme's and make you poster child for Lupus! If your doctor didn't see that as a clear sign, go to someone who specializes in auto-immune disorders (most likely a rheumatologist). The butterfly rash is a dead give-away! Hope you have been diagnosed by now and are doing well.
Avatar f tn The itching seems more internal. Could this be from the Lupus. I have systemic Lupus, not the Discoid. Does anyone else with Lupus get this?
1168718 tn?1464983535 They did mention Lupus, but apparently, my rash/ horrible face /neck, is a-typical according to the Rheumi...... I have been reading some stuff, but it get scarey...
Avatar f tn If it is systemic lupus you may not have a rash but you should have the other symptoms such as going pain, rash on the face, sun senstiivity and so forth. It may be a different autoimmune disorder too. The 1:160 is on the edge of positive. I hope you are going to a hematologist or rheumatologist?
Avatar f tn My current symptoms are headaches , generally tired , sensitive to light, still have a face rash , my palms have a rash . And a bump that went away during the beginning but is a scar there. Yellow tounge . itchy eyes and face. Should I get checked for mono ? Could this be HIV ?
1168718 tn?1464983535 Hi guys, I'm trying to upload a few pics for you guys to see my rash on my face, and I don't remember how to do it. | Could someone please help !!
20909223 tn?1623357488 Did you get oral steroids from a doctor, who saw you and looked at the rash? Did he rule out possibilities like lupus? You need a clear diagnosis of what it is, that is, other than just someone saying it's a rash.
