But if this is a sign of infection why did the doctor only prescribe for the right eye? Is it dangerous to have redness in the eye?

When I work on computer in evening, it gets very red and after waking up that part is also very red. during day the redness reduces. there is no pain and no discharge. Is it any kind of infection? thanks! best regards!

It felt like something was growing next to the bone of my eye socket along the inner left eye. The next day, there was no swelling, no redness, but it hurt to move my eye. The day after that, the eye lid and inner eye started swelling and there was a discharge from the corner of the eye next to the nose. I went to the doctor who gave me a shot of antibiotic and prescribed oral antibiotics. That was 2 days ago. The eye is not any better.

During the antibiotic treatment for a month, they were improved to an extent that it now hardly causes any irritation or pains, and they never had swallen or nor there had been no affect on my eye vision and that the redness became very minimum. However, they have not been healed completely. I am waiting for an appointment with an eye specialist, which is a two-month long waiting list.

This has happened before, possibly 2 other times in the past 10 years. Past times resulted in mild eye infection that was treated by our doctor w/ drops. This time he got a severe infection that he treated for 2 weeks with little results. He was sent to a specialist. Treatment plan, antibiotic drops, steroid drops, as well as some type of drops to help his pupil to shrink. Although his redness has diminished, his pupil is HUGE and he has very poor vision from that eye.

It turned out to be an eye infection (pink eye). My eye did not have any abrasions or damage of any kind, just a lot of inflammation. I am currently taking antibiotic eye drops through Wednesday with instructions to return if the redness persists. I appreciate your help.

I have had eye redness off and on for two months. I have been to two optometrist and both prescribed me Z-pack because they believed it to be Chlamydia related. making a really really ....really long story short i have not taken either prescribed Z- pack antibiotics. I have been taking the precribed antibiotics my Primary Doc has given me but it wasnt Z- pack...this is such a long story and there is so much i want to tell and ask you but in short.

Thanks. My eye itself hasn't been red, burning, etc. It's all been underneath the eye, between the bottom of the eye and the cheekbone. There's no eye redness, tearing, etc., and no trauma in the area.

Hi nightrunner21, Both gonorrhea and chlamydia can infect the eye, but it's true that you could have a viral eye infection not related to a STD. Other STDs can infect the eye, too. You need to go visit with a Eye MD (ophthalmologist) so that these can be ruled out. Syphillis and HIV need to be checked off the list, too. Best of luck!

I am concerned about your reports of pain around the eye. If a secondary infection has occurred, infection in the tissues around the eye can become a serious problem. No comment on this matter would be complete without the warning that you should see a doctor, preferably and eye doctor to have the condition examined.

Yes, it is quite possibly all part of the upper respiratory infection. If you get continued redness or pus coming out of the eye or irritation or blurred vision, you should see an ophthalmologist right away.

7 month old who had pink eye 3 months ago. was given antibiotic eye drops. redness is gone and discharge crystallized then went away for awhile. The discharge is back. white,yellow or green in color. when it is white in color you will see it go across eye to inner corner. eyes r watery and itchy. There is no redness or swelling. By way of completeness, a month ago I had eye problems that started out looking sort of like my eye looks now - redness on top of my left eye (but not as veiny and no pain or tearing). It might be an eye infection. Call the eye doctor and say you think you have an eye infection. That should get you in quickly.

In the last few days, my sister developed severe ocular pain, more painful swelling (no bulging), and eye watering (clear). She followed up with an ophthalmologist and took their directions, but there's no help. What can possibly cause my sister's eye swelling and other symptoms? Could this be an infection? After 4days I noticed the redness was reducing but my vision was blurry and somewhat cloudy , I went to the doctor and he said to stop using the maxitrol and pescriped another for me (forgot the name) used that for 1week and the redness totally cleared yet my right eye has remained like that till now.
