Avatar n tn Exercises for the front of your legs like wall squats, you stand with your back against the wall, then bend your knees to lower your hips until your thighs are near parallel with the floor. Maintain your wall squat for five to 10 seconds and then release. Include exercises for the back of your legs such as a leg curl. Stand facing a chair and then bend your knee to lift your foot behind your body and hold it still for three to five seconds. Lift and lower each foot eight to 10 times.

Avatar m tn I'm a 27 year old male. I have returned to gymnastics after 3 years out and find that I get severe cramp in the arches of my feet. It seems to occur if I point my toes too hard and for long periods of time. My feet don't seem to be as flexible as they used to be as I used to have a much better toe point before. As I have to train in barefeet, I've also noticed that they can get quite cold sometimes. Can anyone help?
Avatar f tn s pose (with belly on floor and legs out to make space) to stretch back and to relieve pelvic pressure.
Avatar n tn Specifically, someone of your age might find an increase in pain with standing and walking and a decrease in pain with sitting. Swimming freestyle (crawl), and breaststroke may further irritate your condition by putting you in an extended position further compressing these nerves. You can still swim, but discuss options with a physical therapist. I encourage you to look for an orthopedic physical therapist who works with the spine in your locale. Good luck!
Avatar n tn It has also been shown to increase bone density. In fact, astronauts use WBV to protect against the bone and muscle loss they experience in the micro-gravity environment of space. I hope that helps.
Avatar n tn Perform yoga or stretches after each exercise session to improve your flexibility and reduce your risk of soreness and injuries. Stretching helps to elongate your muscles to give your legs a leaner appearance. No excess sodium and improve your diet to reduce water retention. Your knees and other areas appear larger when you carry excess water. Cut out processed meat, table salt, salty snack foods, canned foods and most frozen dinners.
Avatar n tn Thank you for your reply. No, my mother isn't diabetic or have varicose veins. She's not scheduled to see her ortho. surgeon for a couple of weeks but if she's still in severe pain, I will ask to move up her appt.
Avatar f tn Research has shown that stretching can inhibit your performance and doesn't reduce your risk of injury. One study performed at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill showed that subjects who performed dynamic warm-ups had higher performance in the vertical jump test than those who just did standard stretching.
Avatar m tn It helps to build flexibility, muscle strength and helps to build up endurance in the legs, abdominals, arms, hips and back. The exercises concentrate on spinal and pelvic alignment and breathing that helps in strengthening the body's centre. The exercises start off gently and the intensity increases as the body core strengthens. There is lots of information on Pilates on the web. Best wishes.
Avatar n tn ve had back pain in the past related to anxiety/tenseness and the fact that my flexibility is terrible. stretching/yoga has helped in the past, but right now the pain is limiting activity. I have already tapered to around 2 g per day from 5. Maybe i should stay at this level and get these tests done before I go down more? I do have a family history of hemocromatosis.
Avatar m tn The doctor there said a large floater had broken off but it had not affected my retina in any way. He said to follow up with my Retinologist in a week and to avoid "head jarring". When I said I was involved in Taekwondo but never sparred or received a direct blow to the head the Dr. hesitated but said he would allow Taekwondo under those circumstances. Well it brings up the question again. What kind of head "jarring" will actually cause problems.
Avatar f tn Bend slightly at the waist and knees as you begin lowering yourself to the floor until your quadriceps are about parallel to the floor, as if sitting in a chair. Be sure to keep your back straight and chin up for 8 to 10 repetitions. Return to the start position to complete one repetition. Perform two sets of 8 to 10 repetitions. To do lunges stand with one leg 12 to 18 inches in front of the other. Place your hands on your hips and bend your forward knee, keeping your back straight.

Avatar m tn I stopped running but kept the job. It improved. I tried eliptical after two weeks off and at the end of the work week I was back to severe pain. I am working on strengthening my glutes and hip abductors. Strangely enough ice seems to make it immediately worse. So my cardio has to stop if I am going to keep my job. I have good insurance but good doctors often seem to fall short of helping me with several problems. Ibam a 40 year old male. I have not smoked in 5 years. I seldom drink.
Avatar f tn Have you ever considered running?
Avatar f tn When I do them everyday, my pain is less and I have fewer headaches. Without some kind of stretching exercises, the muscles just keep tightening up. I tried to explain these the best I could. I hope it makes sense. Let me know if I confused you or if these help. Please, if it hurts, STOP! It should not be painful. You should just feel it stretch a little.
Avatar n tn Hey, There are loads of toning exercises that can target that area (however cardio will not target a specific area, it will make you lose weight all over). Well since the hips don't actually move, you have to tone all the areas around it, do lots of core, lower abb, and butt exercises. The best cardio for hips is probably skipping (jump rope), if you must do cardio. Try belly dancing!
Avatar n tn I would swear by yoga... just added it to my MS symptom management and swear in just a month I feel a difference. I use the Wii Fit, so progress is logged. When I first started, it showed me at Wii Fit age 54 (I am 43), I am now ranging from ages 31 to 36 (range is directly affected by factors such as diet and weather which can cause the MS symptoms to be problematic on any given day). But haven't been older then my real age in weeks!! Been using the Wii about 2 months now.
Avatar n tn Last summer (2017) I started with pull-ups and chin-ups and in late August I started to notice pain in the elbow. One morning I woke up and could only bend my arm halfway to the shoulder. Attempting to move past it caused enormous pain. I'm normally quite agile and can reach my left shoulder with my left hand without difficulty.
