exercise

3151606 tn?1420356612 During an EP study, to test atrioventricular conduction, they artificially stimulate the atria at increasing speed until the AV node (the "gatekeeper") is starting to block impulses. This is known as the "Wenckebach point". One may think this is similar to max pulse (maximum HR during exercise) but that's not correct. When you exercise you release lots of adrenaline which both stimulate the sinus node and the AV node to allow more rapid conduction.
Avatar m tn For some more background - I am a non-smoker, exercise regularly, and have an active lifestyle. I teach children and may have contracted something from one of them - three weeks ago I lost my voice entirely for about 4 days. There was a mild fever associated with that, but it went away and the voice came back, but the mild sore throat and cough are left 3 weeks later.
Avatar m tn 5 we lost his twin brother from restrictive cardiomyopathy after heart transplant complications. Doctors at UCLA maintain it was a virus that unfortunately caused the myopathy and ruled out genetics. My 9 year twin old son is short for his age and does not seem to be growing in height like his peers in 4th grade. He does not like physical exertion. He sometimes complains of stomach aches and leg pains.
Avatar f tn I have been seeing a cardiologist because I can't exercise long before my heart rate jumps to over 170. I'm a 52 year old woman in otherwise good health. I recall having this problem all my life. I'm tried continued exercise to build up my tolerance but I never get any improvement. My respirologist did a stress test which showed I change from an aerobic to an anaerobic state at an early stage of exercise. Do you know what this might be. The cardiologist seems stumped also.

Avatar f tn Is it possible that 2 leaky valves would cause my heart rate to elevate quickly during exercise? If so how am I supposed to exercise? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar m tn HIV is a systemic diease and, in its avanced stages can raise havoc with just about any part of normal physiology. In such instances, I would not be suprised to hear about decreased cholesterol in late infection. Take care.
Avatar n tn While it looks good on paper, based on actual physiology of exercise and pathology of diabetes whether type 1 or 2 is not that easy to do and could be dangerous due to occurrence of hypoglycemia during or after exercise. I am not a doctor but reading the physiology of exercise which got very interested when my doctor announced that I am now a bona fide type 2 diabetic, i question the effectiveness of more intensive or vigorous exercises.
Avatar n tn To provide a perspective, it is true everyone has different physiology, respond differently to therapy, etc, but in a general sense aerobic exercise is beneficial and recommended on a continuing basis....that would include at a brisk walk at least 3 time a week for a half hour. There should be some resistant training to maintain muscle tone and strength.
Avatar m tn But the natural approach, to be done to maximum effect, usually utilizes more than just one remedy and would include lifestyle changes such as exercise, relaxation techniques, therapy, and dietary changes. A good book to read for an overview of remedies is Natural Highs by Hyla Cass, a psychiatrist at UCLA. Michael Moore, a naturopath, wrote a small book on 5-HTP several years back. Good luck.
Avatar n tn enrgy is the last to return and was 3 months for me....just wanted to mention that...the supps help this..especially the tyrosine, dlpa, methionone, B complex...cal/mag...a good multi like EmergenC energy booster from walmart...during this time i googled energy like crazy and rocket shots stayed in my frig...dont really need them anymore...
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed Chiari I Malformation in September of 2006 and underwent decompression surgery with duraplasty by Dr. Batsdorf and Dr. Bergsneider at UCLA Medical Center on Dec 1, 2006. Surgery was considered textbook and I was completely symptom free and have been up until about two months ago. What's different? About 3 months ago I started exercising, very gentle weights and walking with some intermittent jogging. Everything still okay.
Avatar m tn the penis is just like a muscle - with increased use, it will become stronger and bigger (just like your bicep if you go to a gym and work out) - it will get larger with respect to your initial body physiology. - it will never get to porn star size, but it will be enough to please a woman who loves you!
Avatar m tn I recently had a consult with Dr. Batzdorf at UCLA. Does anybody have experience with this doctor?
Avatar m tn definately counceling. Some people have tried counceling in the past and may be discouraged by their experience but that's probably because finding the right councelor for you is like finding the perfect shoe. Not all are going to fit, but if you keep looking you'll find one. This probably seems minimal but exercise/going for a walk works alot for me. They have always said exercise is a great stress reliever. I too have anxiety, has gotten better with age but still struggle.
Avatar f tn My retinal specialist has been checking my epiretinal membrane every 2 months since last fall. The membrane seems to be very slowly lifting back, and we’re continuing to monitor it. Here's my question: I often need chiropractic treatments and massage therapy for a neck problem. Does lying facedown on a head cradle, with some amount of pressure on my eyeballs, have an adverse effect on the ERM attempting to pull itself off? Am I pressing the ERM back down into the retina?
Avatar m tn UCLA docs are typically top notch. Google "UCLA Physicians". Try the Pfleger Liver Institute, if that is close to you. You might want to seek a gastro with knowledge of Hep C, if there isn't a big choice in Hepatologists. Best to you!
Avatar f tn There are natural ways of dealing with this, including natural remedies, meditation and other relaxation techniques, exercise and therapy and dietary changes. It may be that only medication will help you, but there's a lot else out there to try. Start with a book called Natural Highs by Hyla Cass, a psychiatrist at UCLA who uses natural methods in her treatment.
Avatar m tn Safety is always a relative concept, but it's certainly safer than using medication. If you're on an antidepressant, though, you shouldn't add this to it.
Avatar f tn Cedars, UCLA and many of the other larger hospitals in LA have a pituitary center. I hope you find a great surgeon! I had my surgery in LA and I live in NJ!
Avatar f tn I think your nickname says it all "newmom" that's the thing with having babies - your physiology has been changed temporarily.
Avatar n tn Pulmonary hypertension indicates the rightside of the heart pumps against more than normal resistance. Untreated and not controled the condition can increase the size of the right ventricle and eventually effect the leftside of the heart and cause heart failure. When the leftside of the heart fails to meet the system's demand for blood/oxygen there can be symptoms of shortness of breath, muscle fatique, chest pain, etc.
Avatar m tn So it is very much a benefit and risk exercise when deciding to take Tenofovir before the recommended third trimester. There is a recent paper discussing these issues that you may find useful: Hepatitis B in Pregnancy Tram T. Tran Liver Transplantation, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA http://cid.oxfordjournals.org/content/62/suppl_4/S314.
3945899 tn?1414781215 They should also teach relaxation techniques, such as meditation, exercise, and breathing exercises. As for natural remedies, start with a book called Natural Highs by Hyla Cass, a psychiatrist at UCLA.
Avatar m tn A United Kingdom study found that performing mentally fatiguing tasks before a physical exercise caused people to hit the wall faster than if they performed the same exercises while having a rested mind, even though the mental tiredness didn't affect the performance of the subjects' heart or muscles. The authors said their findings, published in the March issue of the Journal of Applied Physiology, may offer insight into the mysteries of chronic fatigue syndrome.
