Avatar f tn Hello, Symptoms of estrogen deficiency are hot flushes, fatigue, headache, night sweats, vaginal infections, incontinence, anxiety and stress. Symptoms of esterogen excess are weight gain, irregular menstrual periods, which can be excess bleeding or light bleeding, and an increase in the strength of pre-menstrual symptoms and anxiety. Confirmation can only be done after getting the estrogen levels checked.
Avatar f tn High levels of estrogen cause unexplained weight gain and feeling fatigued or lethargic. Low thyroid hormone is a consideration since there is family history of thyroid disease but high estrogen is a more likely cause in my opinion. A good article on high estrogen is "High Estrogen Overload Symptoms. Dangers Every Woman Should Be Aware Of" from the Healthy You Naturally website. An excerpt....
Avatar n tn I think that most of us will say that the hot flushes and the weight gain are pretty annoying to say the least. Estrogen can cause weight gain but, can help with the hot flushes some. Natural sources of Estrogen (like soy) are less potent but, don't necessarily cause the weight gain. So, perhaps, you may want to try to seek out some help from the healthfood store where they often have some great advice and preparations/supplements that can help with the hot flushes?
427265 tn?1444076436 * If the female hormone estrogen is not broken down efficiently, this can lead to excessive levels of estrogen in the body. Excess estrogen can cause breast pain and lumpiness, heavy painful menstrual bleeding and weight gain around the hips, buttocks and thighs. This is very frustrating for women who are pear shaped as they may develop cellulite around the hips and thighs.
Avatar f tn Due to being so little earlier in my pregnancy the weight gain is healthy, but I'm not sure about the over eating, ill have to ask next appointment, but nausea has made some days impossible to keep food down which could explain feeling extra hungry later on, but I don't know):

Avatar n tn Severe anemia and malnutrition, excess weight gain or weight loss, hypothyroidism too can contribute. If you have been on pills or depot shots then this can be post pill amenorrhea. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care!
Avatar m tn There are some hereditary conditions in which males have elevated estradiol levels. Also some endocrine syndromes. MOST of the time, the excess estrogen is produced in excess adipose tissue. Usually estrogen is converted into testosterone, but in some cases, this fails to happen. This is the type of case in which something like Aromasin might help.
Avatar f tn so can anybody tell me if it is common to gain weight after hysterectomy or is that just depending on the medicine you're given for hormones
Avatar f tn For most people, your face is the first place you visibly gain and lose weight. Usually, as soon as you start shedding the excess weight, the first place you'll notice a difference is in your face. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Avatar f tn Higher doses of estrogen in birth control pills is known to cause weight gain in women due to fluid retention. Get your estrogen levels checked. For weight loss, apart from diet control, indulge in physical exercise daily for which you can even join a gym. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor.
Avatar n tn LOL By the way, one of the side effects of these hormonal changes is weight gain and one of the side effects of weight gain is a storage of extra estrogen in the fat cells. Progesterone levels fall and that allows the extra estrogen to cause us to be estrogen dominant. Estrogen dominance can also cause higher cholesterol levels by the way. :) My suggestion....let this period go for a few more days and see if it slows down.
Avatar f tn Phephe, thank you for sharing. Without a doubt, your current weight plays a major factor in your menstrual cycle. Body fat produces estrogen, which is an important fertility hormone. However, too much estrogen from excess weight can keep you from ovulating regularly or from ovulating at all. This is most likely what you're experiencing.

Avatar f tn I had a 12 cm cyst on my left ovary removed a couple weeks ago via a laparotomy (major surgery because I waited too long), they also removed my ovary that was ruined by the 'monster'. Trust me, don't wait on this thing too long. I started having pains about 5 months ago and dismissed it initially as an odd period cycle.
Avatar n tn When I began the synthroid, the weight gain stopped; however, getting off the excess is fairly perplexing to me also. I'd also appreciate info . . .
Avatar f tn I try to eat healthy and not to gain excess weight. I learned from last pregancy the excess weight is hard to get rid off.
Avatar f tn I say this because it typically is the Lack of Estrogen that will cause weight gain and not the abundance. On the other hand, since you are also taking progesterone, you may have been out of balance between the two hormones. My other thought is that you may be the type of person who does really well on progesterone without added Estrogen, although the more I research recent studies on this, those people are few and far between.
Avatar f tn Sometimes tumors of the ovaries and brain may also cause absence of menstruation. Severe anemia and malnutrition, excess weight gain or weight loss, hypothyroidism too can contribute. If you have been on pills or depot shots then this can be post pill amenorrhea. Do discuss this with your gynecologist (consult another if need be) and get yourself examined. Take care!
