carbohydrate

Avatar f tn t determine your carbs by the number of calories. You have to determine how many carbs are in each serving of the individual foods you eat, as listed on the package/container. For instance a serving of bread might have 12 grams of carbs listed on the package. For help with the bar code issue, try asking your question in the Improve MedHelp Suggestions forum. The mods there should be able to help you. You can access that forum via the following link: http://www.medhelp.
Avatar n tn Vegetables, for example, the core of a healthy diet, are carbs, whereas beef is very high in fat on purpose and hard to digest despite being high in protein and so is never weight-loss food. In general, nuts, beans, animal food, and seeds are examples of high protein foods, while most of the rest is carbohydrate. In both categories you'll find fats, which come in good healthy ones and other not so healthy ones.
Avatar n tn There are basic rules, such as avoiding too much sugar, imbalancing the acid/alkaline nature of your digestive system, too much of the wrong kind of fat but getting plenty of the right kind of fat. You want to be easy on your digestive system, and the stress angle is probably right. You might want to look into meditation or some other relaxation technique that relaxes your body. Personally, I'd go find a holistic nutritionist and experiment until you find a diet that heals you.
Avatar m tn Alcohol does have carbohydrates in it, but different types of beverages have different amounts of carbs. It has a lot to do with what is used to make the alcohol and how it is made. (ie: many beers are made from wheat, barley, corn, or rice...typically high in carbohydrates. Wine is often made from grapes or other fruits that are then fermented to produce alcohol) In short- alcohol does have carbohydrates, but the amount of carbs varies a good bit between various types of drinks.

Avatar f tn whole grains cannot be identified by the color of the food, look for products that have 5 grams, or 20 percent of the daily value of fiber, per serving.
Avatar f tn but then I got pregnant and I guess it threw me out of whack. Most of my pains came after my son was born in Aug. 06. That's when they found out I developed a hiatal hernia and I developed GERD during the pregnancy also. They tried to put me back on those meds after but I refused. I tried Zoloft again but I didn't like the way it made me feel so I stopped after 1 month. Good luck and if you need to talk I'll be around.
Avatar n tn One theory is that habitual intake of simple carbohydrates means that the pancreas is always pumping out high levels of insulin to overcome the insulin resistance; this simply "wears out" the pancreas, and over time, the amount of insulin that the pancreas is able to produce decreases. Limiting simple carbohydrates and choosing foods that are less likely to increase blood sugar may help preserve the ability of the pancreas to produce insulin.
Avatar n tn A healthy way of eating for a diabetic includes a balance of carbohydrates, protein, and fats. Potatoes and bread are examples of carbohydrates and they certainly CAN be included in a health diet. The issue is often one of quantity and preparation. I recommend that you find a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) or an experienced nutritionaist to work with you & your husband since there are many factors that contribute to a health diet for each individual.

Avatar n tn Remember balancing the carbohydrates and protein is the key and you would required carbohydrates for continuous energy and also for instant day to day work so decrease taking simple carbohydrates as in sugars and try to consume them in fruits and complex fiber rich carbohydrates. Proteins you can increase a little by taking a glass of toned milk with your regular protein diet. With more of intense muscle building you need to take supplements as advised by your trainer.
5160872 tn?1385248794 The answer is yes, definitely. I am happy to hear you listened about the serious nature of high blood pressure and are trying to get it under control. The meds do work, but you might also look at lifestyle changes (exercise, weight, diet, for examples) that can really make a difference in BP if you are concerned about taking too many drugs.
Avatar m tn It's hard to say for sure what caused it. Possibly it wasn't true reentry VTach but a run of pvcs in a row which is less dangerous. Either way a very short run of them is not a huge concern for doctors in an otherwise healthy heart which your heart was evaluated to be. Your heart is able to revert back to normal after a few seconds is what is important. if you feel it happen again try coughing to see if it breaks it up for you.
256553 tn?1258883918 Complex carbohydrates, such as whole grain breads, brown rice and pasta are higher in fiber and digest slower. If used as part of a balanced diet, these types of carbohydrates (and occasionally a few of the others) are quite acceptable and in most diets much needed. If you need any help in portion sizes or in a selection of your carbohydrates, please post another question and the members of this community will be thrilled to offer their assistance. Very best wishes ..

Avatar n tn Distressing heartburn is often the first symptom to disappear following withdrawal of carbohydrates from the die However severe, and even if made worse by factors like the back-flow of gastric juice into the esophagus in hiatal hernia, the chances of success are good. If patients come back with the complaint that the diet is no longer effective and their heartburn has returned, a closer look usually reveals that some carbohydrates have again crept into the diet.
Avatar f tn Yet despite this advice, we have seen unprecedented epidemics of obesity and diabetes. Taubes argues that the problem lies in refined carbohydrates, like white flour, easily digested starches, and sugars, and that the key to good health is the kind of calories we take in, not the number. In this groundbreaking book, award-winning science writer Gary Taubes shows us that almost everything we believe about the nature of a healthy diet is wrong.
Avatar f tn Hi - first of all may I invite you to log on to:- http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/523166 where I describe my own experiences after a total colectomy. Avatar f tn In fact, you can check out YouTube and find examples of just about any exercise you might like to try. Zumba is another good one. In addition, you should try adding in some weight training, which is what builds muscles and muscles burn fat. Exercises using hand weights are good; if you don't have hand weights and can't afford to buy them, try using 16.9 oz bottles of water, or canned fruits/veggies that weigh approximately a pound.
Avatar n tn Namaste, Unfortunately, there aren't any easy solutions. Medications do help, but it's a matter of finding the proper medication or combination of medications that work best for you. Other alternatives that may be helpful include exercise (yoga and tai chi are excellent), meditation, accupunctire and deep breathing exercises. You may also want to consider counseling on a regular basis.
