Of course there are side effects now what medication doesn't have any side effects right.Has anyone taken this medication of Evista an had bad side effects or has seen great results in preventing getting breast cancer?

Avatar m tn gov/cancertopics/factsheet/therapy/tamoxifen Tamoxifen has been used for almost 10 years to reduce the risk of breast cancer in women who are at increased risk of developing breast cancer. Tamoxifen is also used to treat women with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), a noninvasive condition that sometimes leads to invasive breast cancer.
Avatar f tn I had not personally heard of the the fractures (femur) from the Fosamax, but I did hear of the other risk factors for some of the older drugs. I had heard also of the side effects like hot flashes and sweats which are none too pleasant. My doctor usually advises me that the benefits often outweigh the risks. After hearing about the cancer risks and stroke incidents, I was not too sure. I became pregnant when I was 35 and therefore could not take any drugs.
Avatar n tn Based on your personal medical history (keep in mind that you well might not have the same risk for the side effects your mother experienced, take into account your healthly lifestyle and different body type), your PCP and oncologist can collaborate in weighing the benefits and risks of using one of these drugs to lower your risk for breast cancer. Women with present or past blood clots in the eyes, lungs, or legs are cautioned about taking these drugs.
Avatar n tn Is there any drug interaction between these two drugs ? I am taking Evista for Osteoporosis.
Avatar f tn No, I haven't, sorry. But this was my experience. The first week, or so, I felt like a complete 'zombie', and I think my bones also hurt. Then, it got better. I have all the menopausal symptoms; I cannot sleep, the hot flashes, moodiness, etc. The hot flashes got worse after a few month. I have been taking clonidine, a high blood pressure medication, for it which really helps. It aslo helps you sleep and is very sedating at first, but very short term.
Avatar f tn m hoping that the fact that I stopped Prempro is enough to help clear up my dense breasts and at least stop fueling the atypical cells. The Evista should help cut my risk even more. I am hopeful. Wow! I didn't mean to go on like that. So I wish I was 49 again and know what I know now. I would have lived with the hot flashes. I did find that magnesium helps with the flashes. But if you take enough so that the flashes are gone, you get diarrhea. It's a toss up.
Avatar f tn Could my recurrence of Ovarian cancer be attributed to my taking Evista for a year? I had ovarian cancer 15 years ago and after surgery and chemo, and a "second look" surgery with multiple biopsies was considered cured.I had a complete hysterectomy and the cancer seemed to be contained in my left ovary. Last winter I found a lump in my left groin which was biopsied and diagnosed as ovarian malignancy.
Avatar n tn Since radiation is a local treatment, side effects are usually confined to the area being treated. Radiation treatment to the chest may cause problems when swallowing, cough, or shortness of breath and breast soreness and/or swelling. I am not sure which medication your mother is taking, but Evista (raloxifene) can cause muscle cramps of the legs. Please have your mother make an appointment with her physician.
492490 tn?1255405372 I am now on Doxil after two six cycle rounds of carbo/taxol -- Be aware of the possible side effects of Doxil that the doctors kind of poo poo -- go to Doxil.com and think about using ice packs on ankles and wrists during the infusion. There are also stage III clinical trials for Ovature out there to make you sensitive to platin again -- my doctor also keeps talking about Navelbine as a possible alternative treatment, although my research showed it mainly is used for small cell lung cancer.
Avatar f tn How long should a woman stay on Evista if no negative side affects?
Avatar f tn Hi, Even with a total hysterectomy, the body will still produce some estrogen which is effectively blocked with an aromatase inhibitor (such as arimidex,Femara etc). In one study, aromatase inhibitors were found to offer greater benefit than tamoxifen in Post- menopausal women.Tamoxifen blocks the estrogen especially to the breast tissue. This is an important distinction because aromatase inhibitors cannot be used in Pre- menopausal women.
Avatar m tn Everything from risk of infections, pneumonia, and heart disease as well as increased risk of stomach cancer. I am not allowed to refer you to my blog but I know that Dr.Mercola did a great blog with references on his website so you can read more THERE. What to take instead? What I give everyone including my dad! Good pharma grade digestive enzymes and betaine. Works much better and is totally safe.
Avatar f tn Because of my GERD, my doctor prescribed an IV infusion of Reclast. Unfortunately, I suffered some of the side effects, fever, and severe bone pain to the point of not being able to take in a full breath. My doctor was so concerned he put me on a steroid dose pack to reduce the reaction. My body doesn't seem very tolerant of any drugs, couldn't take anything other than extra strength Tylenol for a foot surgery. I will have to figure out something else with an endocronologist?
Avatar f tn Post surgical ovarian failure, whilst uncommon, is a real risk with these surgeries and I was never advised of this risk before my op so I am very upset. I now have to take birth control, and all because of a benign cyst. I get migraines from the pill and I shouldn't be taking it either. I wish I had just left the cyst there. But given your history, I guess they do have to extra careful. Good luck, and I hope things get better for you.
Avatar m tn I have been doing some research on my side effects, I had blur vision in 4 days. I hope it does help someone like me. http://www.nature.com/eye/journal/v16/n1/full/6700038a.html that's site. And as for the dark greasy stool here it is the site http://hab.hrsa.gov/deliverhivaidscare/clinicalguide11/cg-501_diarrhea.htmlI hope it does help in any case since I had tried to find something but couldn't. I hope you all the best who is reading this because you need it.

600561 tn?1326845621 I am 68 and all tests indicate that I am in very good health. For the moment, my only perscription drug is Evista. Where can I go with this question? Thanks.
Avatar f tn Hi and thanks again. It sounds like you've been thru a lot with the chemo and then side effects. Yes, impossible to sleep and does interfere with daily things. I drink coffee to stay awake during day which probably doesn't help my insomnia. Have a good day.
Avatar f tn seek immediate medical attention if you develop any serious symptoms or side effects. and that these side effects may only occur infrequently, BUT SOME MAY BE FATAL. would this statement not really get you thinking.I never had any serious deseases but thought that the hep c would kill me. how irronic. those serious side effects are all that occur in our bodies, for some of us. I never experienced any thing like this before on the treatment.
Avatar f tn You are 74 and done with menopause, now it is up to you to decide what you wish to do, if you can get a second opinion from another Oncologist. I am the kind of person who believes that life quality is far more precious than life quantity. I am 69 and I have decided that no more treatments for me, I am done. Ask yourself and your trusted oncologist the following: 1] How much longer will I lead a quality life if I don't use any Aromatose Inhibitors?
Avatar f tn I was just thinking about the pain during labor and im super nervous on what i should do.me and pain dont get along! Are the side effects from a epidural really bad and do it last a lifetime ?
Avatar m tn Some of these drugs are quite potent and may have unwanted side effects. Be sure to discuss all of that with your doctor prior to taking them. The other option is the surgery. You should go to your doctor and get checked. Sometimes, gynecomastia by fat deposits, but won't necessarily go away with diet and exercise. Mastectomy can be done endoscopically, which is much less invasive than a normal surgery.
Avatar f tn Kes I had all of the same side effects you are speaking of when I used tram and yes at 800mg a day you are putting yourself at great risk of seizing .Have you tried tapering off?
Avatar n tn Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects. This drug may reduce blood flow to your hands and feet, causing them to feel cold. Smoking may worsen this effect. Avoid tobacco use and dress warmly.
120574 tn?1240767840 Can anyone tell me what type of side effects you had with Avastin. Did you take it alone, or with a chemo drug?
