Evista osteoporosis risk

Common Questions and Answers about Evista osteoporosis risk

evista

Avatar n tn Is there any drug interaction between these two drugs ? I am taking Evista for Osteoporosis.
Avatar f tn The Evista is suposed to help with osteoporosis as well as cut my chances of ibc in half. Since I am prone to hot flashes, doc prescribed Effexor, an anti-deppresant known to combat hot flashes to take along with the Evista. I hate the idea of taking a med to offset SE's caused by another med. I was hoping that my flashes would be gone by now so that I wouldn't get a double whammy of them when I started the Evista. But I think valuable time is going by.
Avatar n tn It is also used to reduce the risk of spinal fractures related to osteoporosis, which is a plus for some women. (It was during studies of the use of Evista to treat osteoporosis that researchers noticed that among post-menopausal women who took the drug there was a lower rate of invasive breast cancer.) In the STAR study,it was found that tamoxifen appears to be superior to Evista in primary prevention of invasive breast cancer, but it comes at the cost of higher toxicity.
Avatar f tn I researched Evista online and found that it is linked to increased risk of ovarian cancer and stroke, in addition to other nasty symptoms I have never experienced (including hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia). I am afraid to take this drug, too, and don't know what to do. Has anyone else been in this situation?
Avatar f tn Doctor gave me an antibiotic but again next week it recurs. Body aches mostly knees and ankles [ i suffer through osteoporosis and joint pains too but the pains were not troublesome earlier] Can anyone tell is it viral or anything else.
Avatar m tn gov/cancertopics/factsheet/therapy/tamoxifen Tamoxifen has been used for almost 10 years to reduce the risk of breast cancer in women who are at increased risk of developing breast cancer. Tamoxifen is also used to treat women with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), a noninvasive condition that sometimes leads to invasive breast cancer.
Avatar f tn he said I am cancer free right now, but a high risk of getting breast cancer so he is recommending this medication Evista. He said Evista was better then the tomoxafin because it causes less blood clots. Is this true? I haven't started any meds yet, since IM going to get a second opinon first to see what is the best course of medication for me to take.Of course there are side effects now what medication doesn't have any side effects right.
Avatar f tn Could my recurrence of Ovarian cancer be attributed to my taking Evista for a year? I had ovarian cancer 15 years ago and after surgery and chemo, and a "second look" surgery with multiple biopsies was considered cured.I had a complete hysterectomy and the cancer seemed to be contained in my left ovary. Last winter I found a lump in my left groin which was biopsied and diagnosed as ovarian malignancy.
Avatar n tn Hi, Hair loss in a known but not highly common side effect of Evista. If you do a search: "Evista and hair loss" you will find numerous references to this side effect. This link: http://www.ehealthme.com/ds/evista/hair+loss indicates that as of Sep. 15, 2013, 17,635 people were reported to the FDA to have side effects when taking Evista. Among them, 259 people (1.47%) have Hair Loss. Time on Evista when these people had hair loss: < 1 month 4.35% 1 - 6 months 4.
Avatar n tn I am currently on 2 osteoporosis medicines (Evista and Fosomax) in attempts to stop the microfractures from occuring. After a few months of taking these, I did improve. However, my hips and back recently started bothering me again, in the form of spasms. I cannot get another MRI for a few more weeks. I take Naproxin 2x's/day and muscle relaxers 1-2 times/day. Acupuncture gives me great short term relief, but the spasms are back the next day.
Avatar f tn Either estrogen replacement or Evista are good choices in prevention and progression of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. Evista may also protect against uterine and breast cancer. If you don't have true osteoporosis, and you are headed in that direction (osteopenia), then estrogen (or Evista) therapy is more appropriate for prevention, than the addition of Fosamax. At the point of osteopenia, Fosamax may be used at reduced doses for prevention of the progression to osteoporosis.
Avatar f tn to be tollerable. Now I start Evista for lcis and osteoporosis. That is supposed to cause flashes. My doc says Effexor and Clonidine will help flashes. I do not want to take Effexor, and Clonidine may lower my blood pressure too much since I am already on two blood pressure meds. I will try the Evista and if get flashes again, I may just stop. I read magnesium helps, so I tried. It did help quite a bit, but unfortunately, if you take enough, you get diarrhea. Some choice.
Avatar n tn I am currently on Copaxone, Depakote, Neurontin, for the MS; Evista for osteoporosis, Tenormin, (as a beta blocker),for Migrane headache, Cinestin - an estrogen replacement (I had a complete Hysterectomy in 1991), Vesicare and Oxytrol for my neurogenic bladder and Tylenol with codine for acute pain. I recently had blood work and my WBC was slightly elevated at 11, RBC, Hemoglobin, and Hematocrit were slightly low and my lymphocytes were above 5000, (high normal is 3900).
Nicelady Teriparatide (Forteo) is also approved for the treatment of postmenopausal women who have severe osteoporosis and are considered at high risk for fractures. The medicine is given through daily shots underneath the skin and you can give these shots even at home. Another advantage is that it can be given in patients who cannot tolerate oral biphosphonate drugs.
Avatar f tn How long should a woman stay on Evista if no negative side affects?
Avatar m tn Osteoporosis is a common condition where the bone becomes thin and fragile, creating an increased risk of fracture. Osteoporosis is usually painless until a fraction takes place, and osteoporosis is a major contributing factor to bone fracture, including hip fractures, which are more common as people age. There are almost 2 million hip fractures annually around the world. While in the U.S.

Avatar n tn My blood pressure at the bloodmobile yesterday was 102/70. The only meds I take are Evista to prevent osteoporosis and Topamax for neuropathy from the chemo (it's helped greatly, I can walk barefoot again). Because I work nights I occasionally take a quarter of an Ambien to get to sleep to put myself back on a "normal" sleep pattern. Don't drink coffee or tea. Since it started,I always feel this when laying down, sitting up only when I am very tired.
605893 tn?1220181685 Hello jaybird1959, Yes, it is likely the osteoporosis can be all over the spine. Osteoporosis is a disease of bone that leads to an increased risk of fracture. In osteoporosis the bone mineral density is reduced, bone microarchitecture is disrupted, and the amount and variety of non-collagenous proteins in bone is altered.
Avatar n tn for the treatment of Osteoporosis and all have some value. One with a similar name (Boniva) is used quite often and is said to have good results. Since we deal strictly with Breast Cancer issues on this Community you might look at the top of the page under "Health Information" where you will find a subtitle "Osteoporosis" and post there or read other posts and comments. Avatar f tn I had estrogen positive stage 2 breast cancer eight years ago. I had my overies and breasts removed because I have a family history of breast cancer. I' m currently taking Evista and my estrogen level is the same as a mans. Am I out of the woods yet?
Avatar m tn I'm a 59 y/o postmenopausal female that was recently diagnosed with osteoporosis with a T score of -3.2. Was sent to an endocrine doc and did several blood tests as well. The doc wanted to start me on hormone therapy and injections based on my bone density test. I was prescribed the estrogen Duavee 20 mg daily and Prolia 60 mg shots every 6 months. Has anyone had experience with Duavee or Prolia?
Avatar f tn I saw the breast cancer question posted by a member here mention she was taking Bonista, the medication for Osteoporosis. As far as I have researched, the only serious risk known for the teriparatide is bone cancer, not breast cancer. Hope this helps! As for myself, I am a patient suffering from severe osteoporosis. My doctor, realizing I cannot afford Forteo ($950 per month!), has suggested I try to find how I can take the equivalent, generic version, which is Bonista.
Avatar f tn Osteoporosis is a disease of the bone that leads to an increased risk of fracture. In osteoporosis the bone mineral density is reduced. Click Health Topics at the top of this age, and look for the Osteoporosis forum. Also try www.google.com for anything you want to know about Osteoporosis. There is a ton of it. This is good too: http://saveourbones.com/free-chapter.html Good luck to you!
Avatar f tn ADH is ADH and it does increase your risk. My excisional showed LCIS nearby. That increases risk as well. Think positive. There is about an 80% chance that there is nothing more. My thoughts are with you. Be careful what you are reading and how you interpret.
Avatar f tn Prolonged use of Depo-Provera may result in loss of significant bone mineral density, increasing the risk of osteoporosis. This risk is more likely for those who have been taking it for longer than two years, particularly when other risk factors for osteoporosis exist, such as family history and chronic alcohol and/or tobacco use.
