Evista osteopenia

Common Questions and Answers about Evista osteopenia

evista

Avatar f tn I am no longer taking Evista, but while doing some research to see if I wanted to go back on it for my osteopenia, I found some references to a correlation between Evista and ovarian cancer and wondered if that could have had a bearing on my case. This discussion is related to Evista and Ovarian Cancer.
Avatar f tn My doctor prescribed Fosamax for osteopenia. I took the stuff for about 6 years, and each of my bone density test results were a little worse than the previous one. Recently I learned that many women who took this medication for as long as I did got femur fractures as a result. When a doctor on ABC national news suggested that women stop taking it after 5 years, I made an appointment with my doctor to discuss stopping this med. My doctor agreed, but now suggests that I take Evista.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with osteopenia (50 & postmenopausal) a year ago. Because of my GERD, my doctor prescribed an IV infusion of Reclast. Unfortunately, I suffered some of the side effects, fever, and severe bone pain to the point of not being able to take in a full breath. My doctor was so concerned he put me on a steroid dose pack to reduce the reaction. My body doesn't seem very tolerant of any drugs, couldn't take anything other than extra strength Tylenol for a foot surgery.
Avatar n tn He also said an oncologist would later discuss prophylactic treatment with tamoxifen or evista (I have osteopenia, and he said evista can be beneficial for that). I am very frightened and anxious. Seventeen years ago I had a benign lump removed in the other breast. Two years ago I had emergency surgery for a retinal detachment and have only just now come to terms with my altered vision the various complications from the detachment.
Avatar n tn Is there any drug interaction between these two drugs ? I am taking Evista for Osteoporosis.
Avatar n tn Hi, Hair loss in a known but not highly common side effect of Evista. If you do a search: "Evista and hair loss" you will find numerous references to this side effect. This link: http://www.ehealthme.com/ds/evista/hair+loss indicates that as of Sep. 15, 2013, 17,635 people were reported to the FDA to have side effects when taking Evista. Among them, 259 people (1.47%) have Hair Loss. Time on Evista when these people had hair loss: < 1 month 4.35% 1 - 6 months 4.
Avatar m tn Has anyone heard of taking Tamoxifen or Evista as a possible step in breast cancer prevention? My doctor has suggested it because I'm in a high risk category. I'm not sure what to do.
Avatar f tn he said I am cancer free right now, but a high risk of getting breast cancer so he is recommending this medication Evista. He said Evista was better then the tomoxafin because it causes less blood clots. Is this true? I haven't started any meds yet, since IM going to get a second opinon first to see what is the best course of medication for me to take.Of course there are side effects now what medication doesn't have any side effects right.
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm ok, but I think about this every day since I found out. It bothers me more than I thought it would. I have no known family history, but my mother died at 60 from complications from uterine cancer. I am post menopausal. When I was 49 my husband died and my periods just stopped suddenly and I had only hot flashes. But they were often and I would get drenched at work. So I took Prempro. I never stopped taking it because every time I tried the flashes came back.
Avatar f tn t have true osteoporosis, and you are headed in that direction (osteopenia), then estrogen (or Evista) therapy is more appropriate for prevention, than the addition of Fosamax. At the point of osteopenia, Fosamax may be used at reduced doses for prevention of the progression to osteoporosis.
600561 tn?1326845621 I am 68 and all tests indicate that I am in very good health. For the moment, my only perscription drug is Evista. Where can I go with this question? Thanks.
Avatar f tn How long should a woman stay on Evista if no negative side affects?

Avatar n tn You should follow up with bone density scans and visits with your dr. Yes, it get worse. My mom went from osteopenia to full blown osteoporosis in one year as confirmed on a scan. Be sure to take the right amount of calcium, vit.d and get some sunshine too. Also, walking and light weight lifting are said to help. Sodas are known to deplete calcium levels so it may be wise to not drink soda. You should really see your dr.
Avatar n tn I recently found out that I have osteopenia in my spine with a score of -1.9. I'm having lower back pain and have always gone to a chiropractor for back pain. Is it safe for me to get adjustments or am I risking injury?
Avatar n tn Recent xray report says osteopenia, despite a life of too much food and an extreme amount of weight-bearing. (My extreme Diet Coke intake probably explains the deficiency.) So I bought Viactive caramel chews which supply calcium, vitamin D, and vitamin K. Faithfully taking them-cheap and taste so damn good it is hard to limit myself to the daily dosage lol.
Avatar f tn I'm not surprised to hear that you have osteopenia. I also have osteopenia as well and I'm in my 30's. If you have osteopenia, you are at greater risk for getting osteoporosis. The normal treatment is vitamin D supplementation, but there is now some controversy surrounding that. There are people now, including myself, who believe that a low vitamin D level does not cause the disease, but it is rather a symptom of the disease... and that vitamin D supplements will make it worse.
Avatar f tn The test rules out osteopenia and osteoporosis. I know I have osteopenia and many other women and even men with CFS and fibro have osteopenia or osteoporosis as well.
492490 tn?1255405372 There are also stage III clinical trials for Ovature out there to make you sensitive to platin again -- my doctor also keeps talking about Navelbine as a possible alternative treatment, although my research showed it mainly is used for small cell lung cancer. The Femara, Evista, and Arimidex and Tomoxifen are all used to try to stall the need for chemo again, but don't make anything go away, they just slow it down if the do anything at all,.
Avatar n tn I am not sure which medication your mother is taking, but Evista (raloxifene) can cause muscle cramps of the legs. Please have your mother make an appointment with her physician.
Avatar m tn I recently had labs completed because I had a spinal X-ray that showed osteopenia. The lab work reported low Vitamin D and high serum iron. Should I be concerned about this? I will be starting RX vitamin D supplementation and wil be getting a DEXA scan to confirm the osteopenia. Should I get additional labs done if so which ones?
