Evista and breast ca

Common Questions and Answers about Evista and breast ca

evista

Avatar f tn I am no longer taking Evista, but while doing some research to see if I wanted to go back on it for my osteopenia, I found some references to a correlation between Evista and ovarian cancer and wondered if that could have had a bearing on my case. This discussion is related to Evista and Ovarian Cancer.
Avatar m tn Has anyone heard of taking Tamoxifen or Evista as a possible step in breast cancer prevention? My doctor has suggested it because I'm in a high risk category. I'm not sure what to do.
Avatar f tn he said I am cancer free right now, but a high risk of getting breast cancer so he is recommending this medication Evista. He said Evista was better then the tomoxafin because it causes less blood clots. Is this true? I haven't started any meds yet, since IM going to get a second opinon first to see what is the best course of medication for me to take.Of course there are side effects now what medication doesn't have any side effects right.
Avatar n tn t know that you should be taking evista and tamoxifen together , but the evista is definitely not a estrogen receptor. And who knows, maybe with them both it will help ward off further cancer problems. Just be careful because both can cause blood clots -- ask about taking lose dose (81 mg) aspirin or 1 mg warfarin to prevent the risk of clots. P.S. I am in the middle of treatment for another recurrence -- the evista didn't prevent an ovarian recurrence....
Avatar n tn He also said an oncologist would later discuss prophylactic treatment with tamoxifen or evista (I have osteopenia, and he said evista can be beneficial for that). I am very frightened and anxious. Seventeen years ago I had a benign lump removed in the other breast. Two years ago I had emergency surgery for a retinal detachment and have only just now come to terms with my altered vision the various complications from the detachment.
Avatar f tn I had estrogen positive stage 2 breast cancer eight years ago. I had my overies and breasts removed because I have a family history of breast cancer. I' m currently taking Evista and my estrogen level is the same as a mans. Am I out of the woods yet?
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm ok, but I think about this every day since I found out. It bothers me more than I thought it would. I have no known family history, but my mother died at 60 from complications from uterine cancer. I am post menopausal. When I was 49 my husband died and my periods just stopped suddenly and I had only hot flashes. But they were often and I would get drenched at work. So I took Prempro. I never stopped taking it because every time I tried the flashes came back.
Avatar n tn Hi, Hair loss in a known but not highly common side effect of Evista. If you do a search: "Evista and hair loss" you will find numerous references to this side effect. This link: http://www.ehealthme.com/ds/evista/hair+loss indicates that as of Sep. 15, 2013, 17,635 people were reported to the FDA to have side effects when taking Evista. Among them, 259 people (1.47%) have Hair Loss. Time on Evista when these people had hair loss: < 1 month 4.35% 1 - 6 months 4.
Avatar n tn I felt this start between my shoulder blades behind the, 20 months ago, when I lay down at night. Very distinct. Not a palpation with a distinct beat but a sensation like touching your hand to something electric but the only place you feel the electricity is in that area. When it's really strong it radiates to the tips of the shoulders and the forehead. I've tried to explain it, worn a Halter, blood work is normal, been rejected for an Omega-3 trial due to too healthy levels.
Avatar n tn Two lymph nodes were involved, I had a lumpectomy, lymph node dissection (l5), chemo, radiation, and tamoxifen followed by evista, which I currently take. My mother and her sister both had breast cancer (neither died from cancer). No one ever suggested I have anything but a yearly mammogram, always negative. I am most concerned about my daughter, who is scheduled for the MRI guided biopsy Feb. 20. I also wonder if I should be getting any tests other than the yearly mammogram.
Avatar n tn Radiation treatment to the chest may cause problems when swallowing, cough, or shortness of breath and breast soreness and/or swelling. I am not sure which medication your mother is taking, but Evista (raloxifene) can cause muscle cramps of the legs. Please have your mother make an appointment with her physician.
Avatar n tn I am having a biospy sterotatic biopsy April 22nd, of four clusters of microcalcifications. The radiologist also said, I have other calcifications scattered in both breast that are not clustered. If we are taking the biopsy of only the clusters what can be done for the other scattered ones and what are causing these microcalcifications? Can I help to prevent them? I also wonder if I will have problems with my breast after the biopsy, bleeding or infection.
Avatar n tn CA 15-3 and CEA. Her CEA is within normal range but her CA 15-3 is 45.5 with normals being 0-38.4. Is it normal for the CA 15-3 to be elevated even when the lymphoma is not secondary to the breast cancer? I understand there are non-cancerous conditions that can elevate CA 15-3 levels, but can the presence of lymphoma elevate the level as well, or is it possible her cancer is secondary to breast cancer? Thank you for your opinion.
Avatar f tn This could be a number of things and not necessarily cancer, however, your risk of Breast CA is considerably high r/t your mother having Breast CA.
Avatar f tn 10/11 mammogram and sono showed same microcalcification same site same breast. second biopsy diagnosed LCIS. I am on Evista and following up with mammo and sono every 6 months.
Avatar f tn However, doctors will usually recommend that their patients monitor their breasts carefully during monthly breast self exams, and patients may be encouraged to have clinical breast exams and mammograms on a more regular basis. By remaining vigilant, patient and physician can catch the signs of breast cancer early, if it emerges. Some women choose to take prophylactic drugs if they develop atypical ductal hyperplasia, especially if their family members have a history of cancer.
Avatar m tn Multiple sectionon HPE, Show skin epitheliym with underlying stroma which is scirrhous and shows few ducts and the lumen filled with malignant epithelial cells adjacent stroma shows strands and cords of neoplastic epitheliym. Waiting for your reply please help.
Avatar f tn ductal, lobular invasive and insitu. Her2neg., estrogen+,est. and prog. receptor assay 80% positive cells. Does this mean 20% of my cancer can be fed by something else than estrogen? On femara, so does this mean femara is only helping the 80% and the 20% is not being addressed. Only was addressed through ACT .
Avatar f tn angiolymphatic invasion present, Does this mean the cancer has bypassed the breast and settled elsewhere? pT2 pNO (i+) node neg. isolated tumor cells found in 2 sentenial nodes but considered node neg.(under 200 cells) axillary node neg. immuno. staining neg.
1743133 tn?1311182382 Endometriosis, ovarian cysts, first-trimester pregnancy, benign breast disease, and kidney and liver disease are just some of the noncancerous conditions, including some medications that can raise your CA 27.29 level. I hope this helps and I wish you all the best.
Avatar n tn The results of my recent breast biopsy showed Atypical ductal hyperplasia bordering on DCIS. The tissue that was taken had a margin of only a millimeter of normal tissue at one edge. The pathologist suggested another surgery. The surgeon said that another surgery would increase my odds of not getting cancer, but that I did not have to have the second surgery. He also suggested that I might try Evista. I am concerned about the fact that the margin was very small.
600561 tn?1326845621 Just after breakfast seems so bizarre that I concentrate on that. Sometimes in the afternoon I am tired and I do rest so that is not terribly unusual.
Avatar f tn to be tollerable. Now I start Evista for lcis and osteoporosis. That is supposed to cause flashes. My doc says Effexor and Clonidine will help flashes. I do not want to take Effexor, and Clonidine may lower my blood pressure too much since I am already on two blood pressure meds. I will try the Evista and if get flashes again, I may just stop. I read magnesium helps, so I tried. It did help quite a bit, but unfortunately, if you take enough, you get diarrhea. Some choice.
Avatar f tn i had breast ca a decade ago and got the full treatment. now on hcv meds. i quite doubt that one could do them concurrently especially the chemo part. as bill said hcv does not usually move so fast and treatment can usually be postponed. this is not true of breast ca. it seems one would treat that first while taking very good care of liver; no alcohol or toxins as chemo stresses liver...the important thing is that u see a specialist in both areas who communicate well and often.
Avatar n tn Those are drugs that were primarily given to post chemo breast cancer patients since breast cancer is usually estrogen related. The correlation between breast cancer and estrogen related ovarian cancer is being studied, and the theory is if they work for breast cancer patients, they may work for estrogen related ovarian cancer, as well. For me, Aromasin has kept my cancer stable for the last 9 months.
Avatar f tn A tumor marker similar to the CA 15-3 that is found in the blood of most breast cancer patients. CA 27-29 levels may be used in conjunction with other procedures (such as mammograms and measurements of other tumor marker levels) to check for recurrence in women previously treated for stage II and stage III breast cancer. CA 27-29 levels can also be elevated by cancers of the colon, stomach, kidney, lung, ovary, pancreas, uterus, and liver.
Avatar f tn How long should a woman stay on Evista if no negative side affects?
Avatar f tn u/s and biopsy done. meeting with surgeon next week. It is likely the pleural effusion is malignant due to prior breast Ca and new "spot"? I know prognosis if malignant pleural effusion is not good. Is there a possiblity the pleur effusion could be unrelated or not likely? What is the prognosis of nonmalignant pleural effusion after breast ca?
Avatar n tn My wife is 13 years out from being diagnosed with stage I breast cancer (node negative)/had lumpectomy; 6 and half years out from a second breast cancer (it was a new breast cancer, not a recurrence)/had a bilateral mastectomy. Just recently had blood work done, CA 27.29. Her levels over the years (blood test every 6 months) have been between 38 - 42. This time the level jumped to 80, waited two weeks and the level came done to 60.
Avatar m tn Till now i am feeling shy to remove my shirt while going to swimming pool, and in front of friends, relatives. When i come to know that this is due to enlargement of breast tissue (Gynecomastia), i spoke to my parents about surgery. But they are scared and they said that try to reduce my weight rather than going for surgery option. In another 2.5 months i am getting married. I am always worrying about how can i tell this to my future wife after marriage ?
